Roka Akor - Oak Brook
Roka Akor’s principle Robata Japanese cuisine is prepared on a twelve-foot robata grill that uses mesquite charcoal and almond wood with flames that can raise temperatures up to 1,900 degrees. The restaurant’s name is derived from two words: RO and KA. The meaning of the first word is hearth, a gathering place where people socialize and take in the ambience; the latter stands for a burning fire and projecting energy. In alignment with the restaurant’s name, Roka Akor’s design features a centrally located robata grill that provides the heart of the visual experience, surrounded by rich wood décor and sleek lighting. Guests are encouraged to speak with the chefs about the food to create an interactive and engaging dining experience.

Great appetizers and strip steak. Companions enjoyed the black cod. The mashed potatoes were more like a sauce or purée. The dessert was just okay combining chocolate, banana and green tea. Would go again.
For the second time in a row I've had Sam as a server. He really is the best. Covering everything from menu introduction to wine suggestions and knowing how to pace out our meals. We will absolutely return.
The tasting menu was wonderful and all of the staff was attentive and extremely knowledgeable. Despite the high price point, it still felt like great value because of the variety and volume of different plates we could try. We left properly full and already wanting to come back with friends.
As always everything was perfect. Never disappointed at Roka.
Food was more expensive than average yet underwhelming. The steaks were not great honestly, and the sushi was nothing to write home about either. Service was good, a bit bustling but they were busy so it’s understandable. Overall atmosphere was loud although it may have been because it was crowded. Decorations were nice. Overall, I don’t regret trying this place but I don’t think we will be returning.
Hard to say what was more fabulous-the food, the cocktails, or the service, Chris was a fantastic waiter-super friendly and knowledgeable. Roka Akor ROCKS!
Good for groups. Salmon avovado roll ok, as was the fried squid. Black Cod, Japanese fried chicken, Hamachi rolls, brussel sprouts were great. Service was very good and good ambiance, a little loud but not as loud as other restaurants in the area.
A bit pricey, but highly recommend! A bit of the big city vibe in the Subs! The super yummy NY strip w/ truffle mayo was outstanding! The robata scallops & robata pork belly were great too. The crispy spicy tuna, hamachi, crispy squid, beef gyoza dumplings & chocolate cake were also good. I would pass on the tempura shrimp though (small & super greasy).
Food was amazing as always! The level of service & attention not up to par as the Chicago location. Overall, great place.
We made a reservation at 8:15pm, checked in at 7:52, confirmed with the host to get us when the table is ready. Somehow, by 8:30 we still were not contacted. I went to the host and she seemed to have forgotten. The manager and waiter were apologetic and made kind gestures to make up for the mistake. Food is always excellent and service from inside the restaurant also, outstanding. As the for the hostess part, additional training maybe necessary.
this roka location is our favorite. its got its ups and downs. on this particular day, it took almost an hour for the food to be served and it was not very warm anymore. but the taste is always great.
Went when they opened and everything was delicious! My lychee martini was fabulous, sushi was excellent. However, last night, my lychee martini didn’t even taste like my first visit and all sushi tasted alike. Things have definitely changed. Unfortunate.
Great food, service and atmosphere! Celebrated my.birthday with dear friends, and we had a great time.
Very expensive but i did not feel that the food nor services measures up to the pricing
Service was fantastic. Paully was attentive and answered questions about the menu. Cocktails were wonderful. I can’t wait to go back.
The signature maki rolls were delicious. The chef’s choice sashimi was wonderful and beautiful. I will definitely come again.
Been there many times before but it keeps getting worse and worse I’ll never go back terrible Sushi and the soft shell crab supposedly in season was spoiled!! And way overpriced too!!
Overall the experience was great. Our server Sam was very attentive and was very good about suggestions. The only issue was being seated by a large loud group which is no fault of the restaurant but the last thing you want on a quiet relaxing evening away from your toddler is a loud group of overgrown toddlers.
Just an awesome experience all around. From the food to the drinks to the service it was outstanding.
Great staff, great food, great venue
Wonderful experience as always. Ordered the dessert platter for a birthday, did not disappoint.
The food is great and over the top, but I love the service. The waiter knows my name, remembers stuff about my order, and the chef's are very friendly. It's the difference between being a friend and just a customer.
Enjoyed a lovely ladies lunch with my Ma recently. She was beyond thrilled at the level of service, the food and most of all the wine suggestion made by our server. We had a wonderful time.
Excellent, excellent, excellent! Love the food and service. Very accomodating.
We had the tasting menu with a very nice bottle of sake. Each course built on the last and we were well satiated at the end with a comfortable atmosphere the whole time. The staff was very attentive and friendly. This is the Japanese I remember from traveling in Kyoto with a few new world twists. I wonderful find.
Great dinner on a random Wednesday night out with a friend. Our server Michael was excellent and explained the food to a “T” when we had questions. My only criticism was that the wine was very pricey. But we enjoyed that too.
Great food, service by Sam and overall exceptional!
Thank you so much for making my birthday very special. Our waiter Lee was amazing. He even remembered that I have a severe shellfish allergy! I can absolutely trust this restaurant to make sure there is no contamination. I have stayed away from sushi for years because I could never be sure, but now I can have tuna and salmon sushi and nigiri without worrying. And the quality is the best! We sat at the sushi counter and it was like sitting at the chef’s table. There are not enough stars to give this restaurant for quality of the ingredients, or the service. Thank you again for a truly wonderful birthday. We will see you again soon.
The place just keeps on getting better. Service, presentation, food and beverage all top of the line
Amazing food and service. Our waiter was incredibly attentive. Can’t wait to go back.
Excellent lunch! I had the Black Cod skewers that came with a salad, miso soup, 2 dumplings and rice. Black Cod is an expensive fish but this lunch deal is fantastic! (and delicious) The miso soup contained mushrooms which I am unfortunately allergic to; I mentioned that to the server and his first response was "are you okay?" I had not eaten any so I was fine and the cup of soup was off the table in a flash! A minute later a got a fresh hot soup sans mushrooms. My friend had some beautiful rolls that were also delicious (spicy scallop and something with Serrano pepper). I look forward to my return.
We went to Roka to celebrate my husband & son's birthdays. It was a truly amazing experience. Our waiter Lee guided us thru delicious menu. Everything was delicious! Service was superb. The food was outstanding. The hostess was friendly.
There are so many great restaurants in Oakbrook, but we picked the best one. I can't wait for another special occasion to return to Roka!
The food was good but pricey. The service was subpar. Perhaps our server had a bad day, but she was rushing us and didn't seem too friendly. At one point she tried to take a plate away with a piece of sushi still on it (we had to stop her :). Overall, a nice place with good food, but charging premium prices for an average experience.
We were celebrating a birthday, and Pauley made the night really special. We were impressed with the great food and wine recommendations. This location is attached to a mall, so the crowd is expectedly eclectic. It didn't stop us from having a wonderful time!
Our waiter Paulie was exceptional. He was very helpful with menu items and recommendations. He made our experience great. Will be back.
Waited an insanely long time for a very very expensive entree. No apology or explanation was given until we finally managed to get the attention of our server who was doing his very best to ignore us. Jusst not good enough for the price!!
My new favorite restaurant... gorgeous presentation, best dessert I ever ate. Exquisite menu and service.
Always excellent. Service is outstanding and food is very creative, tasty, and fresh.
