Roka Akor - Oak Brook
Roka Akor’s principle Robata Japanese cuisine is prepared on a twelve-foot robata grill that uses mesquite charcoal and almond wood with flames that can raise temperatures up to 1,900 degrees. The restaurant’s name is derived from two words: RO and KA. The meaning of the first word is hearth, a gathering place where people socialize and take in the ambience; the latter stands for a burning fire and projecting energy. In alignment with the restaurant’s name, Roka Akor’s design features a centrally located robata grill that provides the heart of the visual experience, surrounded by rich wood décor and sleek lighting. Guests are encouraged to speak with the chefs about the food to create an interactive and engaging dining experience.

Wonderful addition to Chicago restaurant week!
I'm a bit torn writing this review. The food was really good - the service was horrible. We were completely ignored the entire evening, had to constantly remind the staff that we were still waiting. - 20 minutes to get a Coke? We saw our waiter a total of three time. Once when we ordered, once when he brought us silverware, and then when he brought the bill. The GM stopped by the table two tables next us and was fawning over them while us and the table next to us were lucky to get our food. The couple at the table next to us had their entrees' brought out at different times (10 minutes in between) and then 1o minutes later their side dish arrived and they ordered a drink that never came. We just had to laugh. We were given the excuse that it was busy. I guess it wasn't busy for the table two down from us who got their food pronto. When we left we walked right past the GM and he looked through me like I was a ghost - maybe I am? If I'm going to spend more than $100 for a dinner for 2 I would expect better service than TGI Friday's.
Relaxed and hip. A deep chill out vibe with a pleasant contrast of delicious and lively food. BTW, our waiter, Lee, was amazing!
Excellent food, superior service.
My bride and I had the Wagyu flight, “it’s like butter”
We dined at Roka to celebrate our son’s birthday. Our waiter (PM Bartender) provided us with exceptional service and took the time to discuss the menu selections and make entree recommendations. The sushi was excellent and the entrees were good as well. We would definitely return and try the lunch menu based on the information our waiter provided us. Overall it was an enjoyable dining experience for our party of 6 celebrating our son’s birthday.
Service was excellent, even though the waiter forgot to place one of the orders.
Roka Akor is fantastic. We came by here for lunch and ordered the sirloin and lamb chops. The sirloin was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was served with an interesting soy butter/mushroom combo. On top of that, the service was impeccable. Our server, Carmen, was knowledgeable and helpful with guiding us through the menu and meal. Can't wait to come back!
Food at Roka Akor is second to none as long as you are open to try new, original foods and combinations. Sushi is outstanding, steaks are delicious. Ate here 3 dinners in a row during my last business trip and still want to go back to try something else on the menu I haven't ordered yet. Highly recommend and if you are a tea drinker then you must have their Jasmine tea blend.
Another amazing meal. The food and staff were perfect.
Delicious food, great service.
Thank you For making my sisters birthday special! They pay great attention to detail and the service and food were 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼. Highly recommend
Our server was amazing and it made the going away dinner perfect!
Matt was a great server explaining menu and ingredients. Sushi was so fresh. Chicken was so tender. Wine list was large and excellent choices. We will be back
Fabulous food and Andrea - our server - was so knowledgeable and made wonderful recommendations. Highly recommended!
Wait staff was on top if everything. Food was delicious. GreT experience
My birthday lunch was perfect in every way.! Food was delish and our server was excellent. I love this place.
NYE, we sat at the bar. We had cocktails and dinner. Steve is the best bartender/waiter.
We celebrated NYE at Roka Akor! My friends had never dined there. They just loved it
They were very busy. And have eaten here and downtime many times.
Service was really spotty. Entrees came out 15 min apart and sides after. Hot food was barely warm. Overall, overpriced for the food, service and attention to experience.
Great food! Great service!
Very pricey for what you get. Small portions. Not as good as I remember it was in the past!
Service was outstanding. Great recommendations! I think our servers name was Matt
My husband and I meet here for lunch. Their service is usually friendly and expedient. This was the first time we dined to celebrate a special occasion. We are grateful for the attentive service and for helping to make our brother's birthday all the more special. Also, we were pleasantly surprised to find ube as a dessert selection. Brought back so many childhood memories. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Had a lovely dinner on Christmas Eve. The spicy tuna and salmon avocado rolls were outstanding. Glazed pork ribs and salmon were also outstanding. Roka Fashioned and Lychee Martini were very well mixed too. The outer seating area was the only slightly less than perfect aspect of the evening -- just a little crowded in that area, and the can light was way too bright in one of the seats, but overall, a great place and we will be back.
Everything was perfect! Love the food and service was stellar.
Excellent food and service, and consistent too ! Nice choice on the menu and plenty of options. Food is very well cooked and presented. Portions are on the small side, which is OK with us !!
A very good experience.
Food is always great. Restaurant seemed overwhelmed, bar was backed up, service was off. It’s better to come earlier.
I was very disappointed overall with the food and experience. Highly recommend waygu beef dumplings had no flavor at all. Hanachi sushi had almost no fish in it except for 2 end pieces. Had a very strong mayonnaise flavor? Filet was pretty good, but such large pieces it was hard to eat. "Prime" ribeye was chewy and also large chunks. Spicy edamame was good. Service for those prices was unimpressive having to ask more then once for things and some dishes basically tossed in the table. Roka is way too expensive for the quality of food and service. Sitting in the bar at the back table was freezing and other customers at the bar were complaining about service as well.
Once again Sam did an amazing job of hosting our dinner and the food was spectacular
Food was wonderful and ambiance great! Dessert was also tasty!
Very good! Food was delicious
The drinks were much too expensive for what they were... the food was good but a bit pricey for this place. The service was great but there was a lot of confusion when trying to use my Open Table rewards card and now I had to spend a lot of time retracing to get my $25 back! I may or may not go to this place in the near future... it was good but a bit too much $ for what it was.
Service was outstanding, the food was spectacular, cocktails delicious and overall a great experience. We will definitely be returning and telling others of the great time.
Shout out to the Wagyu and Kimchi dumplings. These were amazing.
