Steakhouse
Roka Akor brings an innovative combination of contemporary Robata Japanese cuisine and stunning design to four locations across the U.S., including Scottsdale, San Francisco, Chicago and Skokie, IL. Roka Akor’s principle Robata Japanese cuisine is prepared on a twelve-foot robata grill that uses mesquite charcoal and almond wood with flames that can raise temperatures up to 1,900 degrees. The restaurant’s name is derived from two words: RO and KA. The meaning of the first word is hearth, a gathering place where people socialize and take in the ambience; the latter stands for a burning fire and projecting energy. In alignment with the restaurant’s name, Roka Akor’s design features a centrally located robata grill that provides the heart of the visual experience, surrounded by rich wood décor and sleek lighting. Guests are encouraged to speak with the chefs about the food to create an interactive and engaging dining experience.

Food was amazing as usual, came back for the nicest chocolate cake I’ve ever had for my 19th birthday. Would definitely come back for more!

Excellent and very attentive service. Just avoid the 'bright room' if you want a cozy meal for two. One end of the restaurant has very bright lighting, but there's plenty of room in the remainder of the restaurant. Can't praise the food highly enough, it was fresh and tasty. Make sure you book!!

Everything was fantastic - food, service was top notch. We thought the ambiance was a bit off. It was bright in our dining area. However we can't wait to go back!

Have been to the Roka Akor in Chicago many times and always very, very pleased. Unfortunately that was not the case at the Houston Roka Akor.
Service was very spotty. Side dishes were forgotten and we had to remind staff of drinks ordered that didn't show up.
Two of our party (of 8) had their steak arrive to the table cold. Not room temperature. Cold.
Some dishes were delicious, but overshadowed by over-all odd experience.
Toward the end of the meal, our server went M.I.A., we ended up skipping dessert.
We all agreed experience brought to mind dining in a restaurant that had just opened.
Would not recommend to friends.

There were 7 of us and all first timers. We were seated in the middle of one of the dining area and the noise level was a bit troublesome for us older folks.

The staff did an outstanding job with menu selections and they were mostly on top of our needs. The best part was there was no sense of a rush so we were able to enjoy our food at a great pace. The Food was well presented and tasted fantastic. We will return!

I was told that the sushi was great. We were a party of 4. We ordered the Chef's menu. I asked for a wine list and the waiter would not give me the list but asked me why type of win I prefer. I eventually convinced him to give me the list. What came out as appetizers was tasted and partially consisted of wagyu beef that was the fattest that I had ever experienced. We did not finish the appetizers. A quartered crab in a bowl with butter came out next. If you were able to wrestle the meat out of the shell with your hands you were left with 3" buy 2" slab that you had to shred on plate with chopsticks. The actual body of crab remained untouched as fishing it out and cracking it with hands on sushi plate was not on the plan. Next came wagyu on table bbq on bamboo that was smoking. I thought someone was smoking a cigarette nearby but was told it was a tobacco leaf on the bbq. We asked that be removed. The food was tasted and it to was removed unfinished. The waiter asked if we wanted any to go, we declined. We literally declined to eat steak and did not want to take it home. Steak! Maybe they have great wagyu but what we were given was not a good piece. The manager came by the table several times but said nothing. I paid 875.00 bill, left 15% tip and was glad it was over. Was a bit surprised that manger did and said nothing when that much of order was going back untouched and "leftovers" declined. Once outside I literally called a similar high end sushi restaurant to place reservation for next day but (not surprisingly) they were booked. I told them what happened at Roak and was told I would have a table at 8 the next day. So something good came out of this. The sad fact is that the attitude appeared to be that once we did not like the meal it was along the lines of "who cares about a lost cause." Funny they were attentive asking if I want another bottle of Echo de Lynch. Now the wine was good.

Food was fantastic. Service a tad slow. More emphasis on Wagyu beef than I anticipated, and I’m very skeptical of the remarkably widespread availability of anything marketed as rare. Corn side dish was a standout as was the carpaccio/truffle small plate. Great looking spot for anything from a business dinner to date night to solo traveler sitting in the bar.

Booked the reservation for my birthday dinner. We were seated immediately upon arrival and met our waiter shortly after.

The ambiance is very relaxing yet vibrant with the open kitchen and the service was spectacular.

The food:

The Wagyu Dumpling
The Hamachi Roll
The Korean Lamb Chops
Wagyu Flat Iron Steak
Wagyu Sirloin Steak
Baby Back Ribs
Fingerling Potatoes
Brussels Sprouts
Corn on the Cob
Raspberry Sorbet + White Chocolate Pound Cake
Warm Chocolate Cake with Ice cream and almonds

Every dish was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. I also appreciated the complimentary champagne to commemorate my birthday.

Glad we ventured out from our normal sushi spot to try out Roka! We tried the Beef Tataki, Toro Tartare, Grilled Pork Belly, the King Crab with Sweet Corn (my favorite) and one of the fishes from the specials that I can't remember. All of it was wonderful!

Absolutely phenomenal! From start to finish I was in food heaven. The atmosphere was amazing and the food divine! We did “counter seating” which I DEFINITELY recommend for an outstanding performance. Our waitress, Jessica, was super helpful with picking out certain favorites on the menu and explaining the different items. We were front and center of all the action going on in the open concept kitchen, the Chef and staff were very well organized and super friendly! I have not stopped talking about this place and plan to be back very soon!
