Roka Akor - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
This was the best restaurant I have ever experienced. We were upgraded to Decedent Omakase from Signature for my 18th birthday. Executive Chef Luis Padilla brought out all the courses himself and described what everything was in detail. Made for an awesome 18th and will hopefully be back soon! The lighting, music, service and food were all on point. Not a single bad word I could give about Roka Akor!
Thank you Chef!
First dinner out in 2018, my partner and I decided to start the year out right by selecting the tasting menu. What an incredible experience. The wait staff was incredibly professional, the food so memorable and fresh, and Roka Akor may very well be the best dinner experience of 2018. If you have the capacity to try the tasting menu-- do so. You won't regret it.
My experience at Roka Akor was great. I brought my two girls, ages 14 and 11. Our server was great, very attentive and kind. He was great with the girls. The food was excellent. Ambience was nice, a little loud but not an issue at all. Would go back for sure.
Probably one of my top options in Chicago - every time I have explored new dishes / cocktails and never went wrong. The service is top notch and ready to guide you through the menu. The presentation of dishes is outstanding and unique - always surprising me. Roka has become my special place to indulge myself once a month and in special ocasiona
The whole experience was enjoyable but we found the food a little over priced for what we got compared to other Chicago steak houses and high end restaurants, not to mention the wine list which explains why most other tables only had cocktails on their tables. Not sure I’ll be rushing back.
I have been a regular at Roka Akor since it opened in River North and frequent it at least once every four to six weeks. The management, wait- and kitchen-staff not only meet but most often exceed my expectations for good quality and well prepared food, beverage and service. They go the extra mile to meet my dietary meeds and most often are agreeable to the substitutions or other modifications to my entrees. The sushi & sashimi, Chilean sea bass, black cod, lamb chops and wild mushroom/rice hot pot are always great selections.
Great service, but food was just ok. We had the more expensive omakase. The sashimi platter had an impressive presentation, but the quality and freshness of the fish just wasn't there. The Toro (fatty tuna) was not as flavorful as I'd expect, but I suppose this is what you expect for sushi in Chicago (middle of the US?).
The scallop dish and chilean seabass were excellent.
Wish the dessert platter was more japanese (green tea, red bean, etc) to go along with the theme, but it was mostly sliced fruit along with some pear and blackberry ice cream.
Overall, okay food with some good dishes, great service. Good ambiance. Not worth the $340 we paid for 2 people.
I'm not a person who leaves reviews but with Roka I'll make an exception. In the past I've been to high end restuarants and I've left disappointed. I did not have that experience at Roka. It was great! I can't name what I ate because my girl ordered, she ordered about 6 things, and everything was delicious. They also brought her a small dessert because it was her birthday and I kid you not, it almost brought a grown to tears because of how good it was. When the bill came I was expecting to pay with my first born but to my surprise it was a lot cheaper than I expected. For the amount of food we ate and for the quality of the food it was a steal. I hope the restuarant doesnt read this and raise there prices. Overall, great food, great service, great prices.
