Roka Akor - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Food is strong 4.5. Great smell upon entry from wood burning grill.
Little bit of attitude from our server left us a bit perplexed, but not enough to damage the evening.
We certainly would return but we would also encourage some retraining of wait staff on the finer points of hospitality.
Absolutely amazing...the food changed my life lol. I usually go to Morton’s steakhouse, Mastro, Capital Grille, David Burke prime, Michael Jordan etc.. by far this was the best experience ever more of the Wagyu Steak OMG...(100% Crazy good.) I will recommend to any living person to try it.. add it on your bucket list. All the food was delicious.. high 10 to the Chef. Our server had good knowledge, history of the food which was great and amazing . (I would request him on my next visit) On the flip side the valet crew was horrible, when arrived my husband had to wave to them for attention because they were watching something on their phones( totally unacceptable ) they didn’t care what so ever.. I didn’t feel welcomed by them. That’s where the difference come in Vs other fine dinning restaurants. Other places I mentioned the valet guys are phenomenal, but these ones were bad. Our hostess was the lady with side hairstyle which is cute, she was great as well took her time while I was talking to her... very nice lady that business people would love to hire.. good personality.. I was showing her Iron Chef America Morimoto pictures with me. 5 STARS—🤩. LOVED IT...
Dined alone and had the Decadent omakase meal. Fabulous food, too much for one person and definitely was a great deal for the price!! 10 courses from amuse bouche to dessert for $125 for a single diner is the best deal in town! Most notable dishes: toro tartare, Sushi presentation, robata sea bass and prawn, finally, American wagyu with three kinds of salt and homemade ponzu. Divine!!!!!
Great food, even better service! Loved our server, he was very well informed about the menu and gave good suggestions.
We got the Chicken Yakitori Skewers, Prime Rib Eye, and Soft Shell Crab roll - everything was full of flavor and really delicious!! Would definitely recommend and go back!
my wife and i had dinner at the bar on a saturday night. Slava and Ryan were our fantastic bartenders and skillfuly guided us through the food and wine menu. They educated us about the intricacies of the menu and entertained us with their stories about the restaurant. We loved the food and the vivacious atmosphere . This was one of the most creative menus I have seen and the food was very fresh. We will be back with friends. We hope to see Ryan and Slava again.
Thanks so much for the great time guys.
From the time you walk in until departing the service is impeccable. Server fully explained menu and the different ways to order. Maitre'd made several visits to assure everything was going well. Food was more than good and as with many Japanese restaurants the presentations were beautiful. Will definitely return.
Wonderful! From the service, to the food, to the drinks, to the atmosphere, even to the waiter's recommendations, this place is a true gem. We dined during restaurant week and it did not disappoint. They also offered a wine pairing, with was a nice extra surprise. The two first courses that you get with the prefixed restaurant week menu were both amazing. I would have been satisfied if the meal ended there. Our waiter recommended the cod, which my friends both ordered. I chose the steak and it was cooked perfectly (went to Morton's later in the week for RW and the steak here was so much better). Dessert was also a treat. Our waiter never hurried us either, as we sat and chatted for a while after we completed our meal. Just an overall top notch experience! Highly recommend!
Service - superb - Faviola was spectacular. Catered to me on the visit, gave plenty of attention to help me understand as this was the first visit along with a few spoils and fixed another one of my upcoming returns to this place.
Food - Had the Kobe (tajima/hyogo) - it was good as the product is quality to begin with but was cooked unevenly. Star of the dish needed the supporting cast to shine and didn’t stand out on its own which it should have been able to.
Risotto/truffle was superb - flavors on that was amazing by itself. Adding the truffle didn’t really move the needle much - maybe more of the shavings as the older ones tend to lose some of the flavor and are not as enticing (fresher ones tend to have more of that pungent awesomeness to make sure you’re aware there’s truffle in there).
The ube custard/cake... decadent is the right word. This was a pleasant and welcome surprise. Stay away if you have a weakness with desserts or any of that New Years resolution to slim down or cut down on sweets - it will definitely break that wall down to rubble with each bite. Left me with ordering a couple more (yes, 3 total)... for myself. It’s not so sweet which makes it even better, but the quantity you’ll end up wanting will blow away any limits you may have set. You’ve been thoroughly and warned.
