Roka Akor - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
We had a fanatastic meal. The waiter recommended us the chief special. It means the chef prepare for us a special selection. Everything was delicious i particularly appreciated the sashimi and the whabyu steak.
The staff was fantastic
I highly recommend this beautiful place.
There is lot of noise and it is difficult to talk with your friends
As a sushi place: they didn’t bring saucers for soy sauce. Didn’t bring soy sauce, didn’t bring chopsticks, didn’t bring wasabi. Til asked.
Also didn’t CLEAR any dirty dishes, or empty appetizer dishes when they brought new appetizer. Very odd.
Wasn’t drinking wine for the 2 of us, for beer, yet they didn’t take the wine glasses off the table.
Excellent food and service was very good. Prices are a bit high and it's easy to quickly ramp up the bill if you're not careful with your choices. This place was very crowded when we visited on a Friday night (it was relatively late too, we left close to 11pm and it was still packed) so noise level was high and seating wasn't the best. Maybe a visit at another time when it's less crowded will change my impression of the ambiance.
Unusual Japanese restaurant. Great and exceptional food. Very friendly and attentive service. It's worth visiting and eating. The only problem was environmental noise. The loud music and the conversations of all the tables around, prevented us of speaking among ourselves. We had de feeling of a local soundproofing problem. It was a shame to have and intense background, because everything else was exceptional. This problem (environmental noise) devalues general score.
We've been to Roka before, it's just ok. Based on ambience and cost (which is premium), you would expect really good food. The entrees weren't bad but the sushi was weak, really weak. Very very expensive for what you get. Now I dont mind paying a premium as long as I walk away feeling like that tasted delicious, and my experience was great. Then I say expensive but top notch. In this case, and for the second time straight going here, the handrolls I ordered at $15 a pop we're soggy and maybe one of the worst handrails ever ordered and I've eaten sushi many places around chgo. The entire time I was eating and staring at the Sunda sign across the street wishing I had gone there. Just as expensive but I think the sushi is fresher and better tasting, and definitely prepared better. Sorry but Roka is crossed off my sushi list.....
All the food we ordered was extremely fresh, seasoned to perfection, and so delicious! I didn't think that everything would be so satisfying, but it truly was. If you're looking for a meal that is done well and worth the price, I would suggest Roka Akor, hands down. The food we ate included a prime steak dish, the jumbo prawn dish with chili sauce, the broccolini, and the smoked peppers.
Had a fabulous dinner. The best were the lamb chops and the hot pot! Though the potstickers with kimchi and wagyu beef and the king crab were also excellent. Cocktails were super good! Went for an early with dad who is 91 and with a walker and the restaurant servers were most accommodating. Service was great actually! The place is hopping and filled with festive atmosphere. It is a little loud though so be prepared if coming with older ones. Will leave dad at home the next time. ;)
This place is amazing, I don’t think you can go wrong with any dish. The New York strip with bone marrow was to die for and the sashimi tasted so fresh. We also tried the wild mushroom and rice pot which was a great side item for sharing. Our server was wonderful as well, all the wines he recommended were very good, to the point where we went to Binnys post dinner to buy some bottles!
