Rojo Mexican Grill serves new culinary creations and many traditional dishes, such as quesadillas, tacos and enchiladas, but with bold new flavors or in unique presentations. Ingredients, such as the tortillas, guacamole, and salsas, are made fresh from scratch each day. And Rojo uses special proprietary blends of Mexican spices to create the unique recipes. The stylish restaurant seats more than 280 guests and was designed to evoke traditional Mexican décor, but with a modern influence. Warm woods and soft red upholstery are offset by accents of leather, stone and steel. The dining room offers traditional table service and a generous view of the kitchen where diners can watch food prepared throughout the process. Three centrally located tables are dedicated to preparing hand-rolled tortillas, fresh guacamole and salsa in full view each day.

Chips and salsa are top notch. I’ve had the tacos several times and they are always delicious. Sweet rice served with meals is delicious. Had a bad experience last time I was there and may not return. I ordered the beef burrito and got chicken. It was super plain - just tortilla, chicken, sauce, and sour cream. Server said she would comp it. Later manager came over and said she would take care of some of it. When the bill came they took of $8, about half of the entree cost. They come off as petty and cheap by having the server say they will comp it only to have the manager try to squeeze out a few bucks. The manager does not understand the big picture and that they could have redeemed my experience by just comping my entree as they told me they would.
Food was good but service was horrible. Staff needs to be better trained. Waitress was too busy chatting with the staff and was clearly not interested in doing her job correctly. Took the wrong order and than didn’t admit her mistake. Service was delayed and ruined our dining experience. Will most likely avoid this restaurant solely on the base of service.
Terrible service from the beginning to the end. The waiter didn't bring silverware for the first 10 minutes we were there. I finally got up and walked to the hostess stand near by and asked for silverware. My beer was poured very sloppily- it was running down the side and the bottom of the glass was covered in beer. There were no napkins or coasters so after picking up the glass a few times and putting it down there was been everywhere on the table. Since our waiter was not around I had to go to the hostess stand and ask to have the table cleaned. She must have told our waiter because he came over but he seemed unsure of what to do- and even made a comment about not being sure what to do. I commented that maybe he could get a cloth to wipe the table. A different server brought our dinner and the waiter saw him put the food on the table so he knew we had only just gotten the plates and he asked how it was tasting. Clearly we did not taste any yet. The bad part is that he never came back to the table the whole time we ate to ask us how it was. Love the food but probably wouldn't rush back to that location.
I made reservations for a business lunch 9/20. When I arrived I was told my guest was not there yet. In fact she had been seated elsewhere in the restaurant. We both explicitly mentioned the other's name. It wasnt until 23 minutes later that we realized on our own we were waiting for each other There were less than 15 people in the entire restaurant eating. This is UNACCEPTABLE! The server came over and said that it was because we were not clear on who we were waiting for, which is not what happened. This is a service industry where an apology goes a long way. This response had resulted in me moving my business lunches to another location.
Was expecting a much better experience. Upon arrival the floors were sticky. I mean ALL the floors were sticky. The decor was upscale but the sticky floors just put my wife and I off. The server was ok but seemed to not want to be there. Don't get me wrong, she was fine but only in a "this is a boring job" way. The food was nothing special. We've had much better at numerous other Mexican restaurants. For the price and reputation, we were expecting much better. We won't be back.
We've eaten at the Rojo in the West End a few times and decided to try this location. The whole feel and atmosphere is not as welcoming as the other location. It's dark and feels as if they literally took over another restaurant without trying to make it their own at all. Our waitress was adequate at best and the food was just okay. Will not be back
Went expecting a nice Mexican meal with good flavor. Boy was I wrong. The chips were the best part of the meal. The refried beans lacked any flavor, the rice was overly sweet(?) and the fish tacos were bland and I had to search to find any fish! My friends chicken chimichanga was also unseasoned and bland. Don't think I'd go back.
It was 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon so not super busy and the service was horrible. There was wait staff everywhere but it seemed like none of them knew what was going on. The food was great but getting a cocktail proved extremely difficult. I am not sure we would go back. There are other Rojo locations and I might try them before ever going back to the one at Southdale.
Service was poor. It seemed as if work flows were non existent.
My 22 year old ate about 3 bites of the chicken enchilada and my husband left half of his as well. These are guys who usually are asking me for my plate.
Nothing special, service issues made it hard to relax. Couldn't get our drinks refilled but we we offered more chips every five minutes.
I would definitely pass on Rojo in Southdale.
That Tomatillo Salad is off the charts! Love it...Especially with the added Shrimp. Thank you too for having a Skinny Margarita and the best green (spicy) salsa in town with so much delicious garlic in it.
Service was a little slower than usual. I think our server was really busy but she was a sweetheart and did all the right things like letting us know she's be right with us, etc..... Not her fault as it was busy that night and maybe a bit understaffed (?) . Just an observation. Love this place. Will be back again and again.
We have been to Rojo countless times and usually have GREAT experiences with both food and service. We love that it is a place you can go for a date, with adult friends, or with our young kids and enjoy being there! This time, however, our server tried but was clearly overworked and had way too many tables. Only half of us got our food: my daughter's food was forgotten and I was given tacos, not the fajitas I ordered, so had to wait a very long time to get the correct order. The fajitas just were not good...I should have kept the tacos as I've loved those and the enchiladas before! The delicious margaritas keep us coming back though....even though this past time was less than stellar, our overall record at this restaurant is really good!
