Lovely building and decor. Great food and good value for Prix fixe. Unusual items especially the delicious mushroom/fennel sakad. Quiet and attentive service.
Food was good, wine was excellent. The wait (with a reservation) was awful. Service was not so great. Staff were friendly, but it seemed like our waitress had way too many tables.
We greatly enjoyed our experience at ROIA! Service was impeccable & the food was devine!!!
Love coming here! Avi prepares my dish for me just the way I love it. Favorite restaurant to come to when I am in New Haven!!
We were there on a slow evening but the food was excellent along with the service. The old Taft hotel has magnificent ceilings with the decor of the era. The prices were very reasonable especially considering the quality of the food! It was so good from appetizers to dessert. We will return.
From the greeting we received upon entering to the last crumb of dessert this was an incredible experience. We had The carpaccio di fungi, the ricotta on crostini with roasted vegetables, the Arctic char, the pesto risotto. the cecio di pepe, the smoke marshmallows and the strawberry sablé each morsel was perfectly conceived and presented. We will be back but sad to know that the excellent chef and manager have to move on due to visa issues. 🙁
Outstanding meal as always. We have never had a bad meal at Roia, always a unique dining experience.
Amazing food, ambiance, and service. I was a party of five with three young children. We all enjoyed the food and they gave my wife a special dessert to celebrate her birthday. Parking was on the street and free on Sunday. The Strawberry and merengue dessert was a hit for all. I highly recommend this restaurant. We purchased the cheese plate, salami plate, fennel salad, carpaccio al fungi, grilled avocado with chickpeas, steak, amazing pasta which my two youngest shared, and the organic burger for my 11 year old. Everyone was beyond full and extremely happy. I will return soon.
A good evening. Not crowded, one noisy table nearby. Overall, a pleasant evening before the theater.
Fantastic once again. Avi, the proprietor treated us with such kind hospitality. Can’t wait to go back.
Just to expensive for the experience. Not bad place, but so many other restaurants in New Haven that are a better value.
Pre-concert dinner, great service and recommendations from the wait staff. Apps were fantastic and steak frites were top pick. Wish we had room for dessert!
Excellent service by an extremely competent and friendly staff. Food is interesting and delicious, with appropriate portion size and good vegetarian options.
First we did one of their cheese and wine classes in collaboration with Caseus followed by a beautiful dinner!
ROIA HAS NEVER FAILED TO BE ANYTHING BUT PERFECT AND WONDERFUL
Great grilled octopus. Nice atmosphere for couples.
Excellent food, excellent service , great atmosphere.
Mothers Day Brunch was lovely. The food choices were enough to please all 4 of us. And the food presentation was beautiful. More importantly the food was delicious. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. Prices a bit high and that is the only thing that would prevent us from coming more often. But this was perfect for a special occasion
I hardly ever leave reviews, let alone bad ones. I went to this restaurant 3 times over the last 2 years -- just to keep giving them the benefit of doubt. Each and every time: slow inattentive service with attitude, mediocre [at best] food, and random issues such as waves of mothball-like smell coming through the air shafts (acknowledged by waitstaff but no action/effort to correct or explain). My first time there, we had a reservation, the entire restaurant was empty and the host staff still insisted on sitting us by the door. It's a shame since the ambiance on par with Manhattan upscale dining -- beautiful space -- but I'm absolutely done with this place. Would not recommend it, at all!
Wonderful evening for long delicious dinner. Great cocktail (Bitter French) and loved mushroom carpaccio salad and grilled octopus main. My husband enjoyed the soup and fish special immensely.
We all had underwhelming pasta dishes. The service was friendly but inexperienced and inattentive. I brought folks from work and was a little embarrassed.
Wonderful lunch before a matinee at the Shubert Theater
My favorite place to eat and to celebrate in New Haven!
Good food, elegant without being stuffy. Cocktail service a bit slow. Waitress made good wine recommendations. Nice that restaurant provides for free parking in nearby parking garage. Beware of scheduling reservations during Shubert Theatre AND Music Hall performances; garage can fill up quickly.
Limited but select and well-prepared menu, refined atmosphere.
The bar at Roia is my favorite for a relaxing, inspired dinner with a friend! The food is always full of tasty surprises!
The food was amazing as always, however, our service was majorly lacking. My service last time was superb. Hopefully it was a one time mishap.
The chef at Roia never fails to disappoint, and his team offers wonderful service, as well (an important- but all-too-often neglected detail). We are fortunate to have several top-tier restaurants in New Haven, but Roia is one that I return to often, most notably when I have friends or colleagues. Of Special Note:
- The specials are almost always impressive.
- The bartender is fantastic (again, not always the case in restaurants)
- Good place to bring guests.
I received excellent service and delectable food with outstanding presentation delivered by personable, considerate staff. I will definitely return!
Delicious food and very attentive staff. Super convenient to eat before a show at the Shubert.
A lovely evening at a jewel of a selection. We adored every moment. Thank you so very much.
I chose Roia because of previous good meals there, and also because my guest of honor was vegetarian, and I was pleased to see that Roia's menu offered sophisticated veg. choices that didn't look like afterthoughts, as can sometimes be the case. Then it turned out that most of my other guests were also vegetarian! Well, hooray, everyone found good food to eat. Me, I'm a carnivore, and I enjoyed my steak dish, and another guest enjoyed his salmon. We ordered the cheese sampler platter and a few other appetizers to share and everything was delicious. The servers were all very attentive and helpful. The restaurant is lively and therefore a bit noisy, and that is difficult for me as I have trouble hearing with lots of ambient noise. But this is an elegant and historic venue, the food was great, and I would def. arrange a dinner there again.
Nice restaurant with decent food which was presented nicely. The waitress was great but service was slow. Overall, a great place to eat.
Chef outdid him/herself! Waitress was superb!
ROIA is always excellent. The food is delicious, complex, and beautiful. The staff are helpful, considerate and very knowledgeable. The pricing is reasonable given the sophistication of the food. The space is absolutely gorgeous.
Parking: ease of parking, 4-5 lots if you cannot find a spot on the street...though valet would be a nice touch.
Ambiance: quite with light music in the background, very easy to have a conversation without hearing issues.
Decor: dated to poor...walked in and was expecting much more based off the website...clearly the photos are from more than a few years ago
Staff were friendly, if you get a chance ask for Natalie's section, her attention to your satisfaction is above and beyond.
Dress code: is poor, table across from us were wearing adidas sweatpants and sweatshirt.
Food: flavorful though presentation is weak and does not look appealing. The menu is very limited, though a small menu is not always a bad thing but I expected more since it was a referral from another restaurant owner.
Have been to Roia many times over the years. The menu is always interesting and the service is excellent. It is not a bargain, but fairly priced given its excellent within the excellent New Haven restaurant scene.
Memorable food, especially the mushroom carpaccio with truffle oil and the grilled octopus. Gracious service. Roia is a charming location for a family gathering.
Food was decent but overpriced, and the service was very slow. It took over an hour to get our entrees. I left hungry, which is not how you want to feel after you just paid $70+ (individually) for a meal
We had dinner at Roia’s pre-theatre. Great service, great food, and great value. We’ll be back!
