Good service and very attentive. Ordered salmon and swordfish. Salmon was delicious but the swordfish was overdone.
Entrees were fresh and imaginative. The bar had Basil Hayden Dark Rye! Server was good at the beginning and end but absent for the middle when glasses needed attention. A warm evening without enough air circulation in the back corner.
I do have to say I was very disappointed with the food. My friends chicken was very over done.
We went to Roe early, after a play in Long Beach, for dinner. High Energy and a lot of activity. Unfortunately everything my wife ordered, they were out of. Dave, the manager, came to our table and apologized, but it's a rookie mistake that can't happen too many times. We split an order of oysters, which were excellent, My food, the ceviche tostada and the egg fried rice was fabulous (to my wife's chagrin). However, they were out of the duck fried rice and had to substitute. A few weeks earlier I had a business lunch there and they were out of their chowder, an apparently signature dish. I had the bisque, which was fine, but not outstanding. The wait staff were friendly and fun, but the service for drinks and food very slow. I don't think that they have their kitchen staff and bar adequately staffed. We had 2 cocktails each and I have to say they were exceptional.
Food here is always very good, ambience is lovely, and the service was excellent on this occasion--Sunday brunch. Mimosa flight (four juices with a bottle of California sparkling wine) for $20 is reason enough to go for the weekend brunch. The Crustacean omelette served with just a salad was delicious, if modest. It would be nice if it came with bread and/or potatoes. The fish in the grilled achiote Swordfish sandwich was wonderfully seasoned and nicely cooked.
We dropped over $300 on this meal. That's not a problem however everything was just average. Serving size seemed a little small. So we ordered 3 different desserts and still left hungry. We were hoping for more of a sushi selection. High temperatures and extremely high noise level didn't help either, no one likes to yell when talking to other guests at the table. We walked in wanting to love this place but left wanting more food. Sorry I really wish I could throw out a higher rated experience
Excellent service and food once again. Rex our server always treats us well. Thanks Roe and Max.
Everything was great!!!! Server was nice!!! The food was great got the little fish tower!
Reservation originally were for 6:30 on 4th of July - received a call saying the kitchen would be closing early on the holiday and I could change my reservation to 5:00 - okay (sort of). Receive another call confirming my new reservation time - okay. Arrived at the restaurant at 5:00 no table but could sit us at the "communal table" - okay (sort of). Then after quizzing the server we found out there was only a Happy Hour Menu - not okay (not happy). There was two opportunities to let me know about the menu. Left without ordering - let hostess know the "problems". I like Roe's but not this time! I wanted to "show off" the restaurant to my friend - WOW that went way wrong. I will have to think seriously about going back - I am a local (Belmont Shore) customer and there numerous other enjoyable restaurants on 2nd Street.
My only comment is that the clam broth for the hickory smoked salmon was too salty. Another diner in my party had the same dish, and he had the same opinion. Other than that, everything was delicious and Jun (sp?) our server was extra patient with us, and the kitchen had our appetizers and meal prepared to our liking.
A couple of us had an upset stomach the next day. Service was okay but not as good as expected.
We were seated outside so the noise level was minimal. Indoor seating seemed louder. Swordfish steak was delicious! Fish and chips portion was large and breading was minimal!
They have the best calamari I’ve ever tasted. It’s so tender and tasty. There are no tentacles, though, this version is cut in strips.
My sea bass needed just a bit of salt, otherwise I would have given 5 stars.
It’s pretty noisy, both due to traffic on 2nd street and the restaurant itself. Food is well worth it, though.
It was our first visit, the menu was interesting. Glad that they used COD in their Taco's instead of Talapia. Smoked fish was not ready for lunch, but we will be back to try that. Very nice Servers, cute and energetic. (not old and grumpy) She was excited about menu and gave good explanation of menu and fish items. Shrimp was big and NOT over cooked for shrimp louie salad.
We will be back.
Roe Seafood was recommended by a friend. Neither my friend or I had been before. Everything was as we wanted-Food, Venue, Server.
Freshest sushi! Delicious! Filet Roe Fish sandwich was super tasty and amazing. Next time ordering the bottle of champagne with the juice flight- looks amazing!
The service was amazing and the food was fantastic! Best scallops I ever had. Our wine bottle fell off the table and broke and they comped us a replacement with no questions!
Wonderful sushi and nice staff. The restaurant was loud but manageable to hear one another. The drinks were interesting. And the neighborhood feel was delightful.
Portion of sea bass was extremely small. It was very good, but not worth the price.
I love Roe. I eat here twice a week. Highly recommend the Ocean’s gift roll, and the oysters!
Service and food was excellent!!
Our server, Sasha, was very friendly and helpful in recommending dishes to try. The food was creative and delicious and the atmosphere was relaxing. Would highly recommend this seafood restaurant. Will revisit soon.
Outstanding! Informative staff, great value, extraordinarily fresh product. Great experience, would go here again and again!
Love the atmosphere totally different vibe, cocktails are a must and the food was incredible. We will be back
Had a lovely Father's Day dinner there out on the patio. We started off with a small fish Tower of the freshest mussels, oysters, and delicious raw scallops along with calamari fries that were perfectly crisp. We shared family-style orders of entree porcini dusted scallops (delicious mushroom flavors) wood roasted Mexican shrimp (the most buttery of polenta) and the crab Croquettes. All the food was delicious. Clearly the freshest of product. Will certainly come again.
Cheers to chef Arthur!! Dr. F
Calamari are excellent and the other dishes were very good. Very pricey for what is offered. Nice decor but extremely noisy to the point that it’s hard to carry a conversation.
Although our waiter wasn’t that attentive, we really loved the overall ambience and food. The scallops entree was unlike any other scallop entree we’ve had before- it really was delicious!
The food was good, albeit a tad higher in price. Would go for a special occasion but not everyday.
We celebrated my daughter's high school graduation at Roe. The calamari fries were terrific. The batter was light and the meat tender. The dipping sauce added the perfect amount of heat. The poke cervichos was a real hit around the table. My daughter, a self-proclaimed non-eater of fish because "fish are friends, not food," even enjoyed this fun and flavorful dish. The porcini dusted scallops with extra morel mushrooms was another amazing find on the menu. The scallops were well prepared and the mushrooms were like stick-to-your-ribs comfort food (i.e., spaetzle). My son who had the fish and chips also left very satisfied. All in all, Roe was a great choice for our informal celebration of my daughter's accomplishments. Thanks for offering consistently good food in a fun atmosphere. We will be back.
I’ve seen Roe’s in recent months when visiting Belmont Shores. I like to Yelp places to try and find local gems. This place was amazing. The ambiance, service, and food was great! We were running late and Sam told us not to worry about it, they had us covered. The service was quick. We had fresh ceviche (best I’ve had at a restaurant). The calamari and crab cakes were too die for. We had a fresh sushi roll and the crab legs. Everything was delicious and authentic. We were there celebrating a birthday, so the waiter brought her dessert after dinner too. It wasn’t too pricey either. I’d recommend this place to seafood lovers. The vibe was great too. The only recommendation I have is that a portion of the seating was too close to our neighbors, but that was only a row of tables not the entire place. Other than that.. I give this lace 6 stars. Thank you! ❤️
Wonderful evening with friends. We were in from out of state and my husband wanted fresh seafood. He was not disappointed!
We were in the area for the week. This was our best meal hands down. Great place all around.
Casual seafood spot near Alamitos Bay. Best spicy tuna roll I’ve ever had and I usually do not order it because I don’t like the traditional predation. The seafood was fresh and very tasty. Service wasn’t great but wasn’t bad. That was really the only detraction from an otherwise fabulous meal! I’d go back.
I hesitate to write this review because we plan to eat her regularly and I don't want it to get any more crowded. But it's really good. Waiters are all great and know a lot about the food which is outstanding. Loved the scallops and shrimp toast and keep going back for it. It can be a bit noisy inside so I prefer outside. But please don't take my table.
The food was great! But the service was ok. I have eaten here several times and it's the same review each time. Why isn't the service better?
Food fabulous and service was great. The waiter split the check 4 ways with no complaint- bravo
Good service and ambiance! Excellent food and pretty decor. Will be back!!
We (party of 3) had a nice dinner at Roe Sunday evening. Although we had patio reservations we were seated indoor. It was very busy so I didn’t reject (there were 2 patio tables available like 5 minutes after we were seated, bummer). The indoor tables are VERY noisy, I couldn’t have a normal conversation with my husband who was sitting across from me. The food was delicious but it is so overpriced.
Delicious food! Knowledgeable wait staff. Would definitely return, but probably only for a special occasion. Servings are tapas style, so the bill adds up quick! Quality of food makes it worth it. GET THE SCALLOPS. YUM!!
