The restaurant has a good ambience, plenty of space between tables, the view over the harbour makes it special. We chose from the a la carte but there was a very reasonable set menu with plenty of choice. The food was faultless and the portion of mussels very generous! Look forward to returning here

Nice restaurant, but fell below our expectations. The food is of good quality and well prepared but nothing a decent home cook couldn't do; maybe not as well, but near enough.
I ordered garlic and chilli prawns and asked if they were on or off the shell and was told they had only the head and tail left: great! I'll order them. They arrived very well presented but with the full shell on. So I enquired as to why this was and the waitress offered to have the shells removed, they came back without the head, shell or tail, stuffed in a little bowl and by now totally lacking any of the promised flavours. Prawns should never be cooked with shells on for best results, as the meat needs to absorb the cooking flavours: leave the head and tail but take the rest off! Most of all, make sure your staff is well aware of how they will be served.
The rest of the food was good if not exceptional especially when commensurate to the prices! £140 (with some wine) for lunch, for two is, to my mind, too much for what we got.

Loved the atmosphere, food was lovely but not sure about the service charge. We came because of the midweek special but not realising there was a service charge. Would I recommend this restaurant , yes but beware of the added extra's is what I would say. Great location , staff friendly , real napkins great

As we were travelling via Rocksalt, we had the set lunch. The starter of Cullen Skink was warm and very satisfying. The mains of Cod Kiev and the braised steak were also delicious. Diners sitting near us were choosing amazing things off the menu! We will be back for more!

Arrived an hour early to have a drink at the bar upstairs to take in the views first before dinner, & make the most of it. When we arrived we were disappointed to be told the barman had shut the bar- 4 minutes ago - when I checked it was 3:03pm. He said we’re more than welcome to just wait there until dinner. 1 hour with nothing to do (was tipping it down with rain so we weren’t going to go and come back). Felt a very strange situation to not serve customers drinks who have a booking in the restaurant? Feeling like a slight inconvenience, there was lack of communication up until the point where we told they could accommodate us downstairs earlier than the booking we had made. Which was fantastic! The food, wine & service downstairs made up for the bad start. Such a shame that it started that way though! Will hopefully return in the summer!

In the midst of Storm Dennis we had a super Sunday lunch here on 16th February 2020. Skate Wing was delicious and the service impeccable. Staff are super friendly and cannot do enough for you. The Harbour view is wonderful and has a clever art installation in place.

Excellent food crafted from fresh, high-quality ingredients. Went for Valentine’s Day and was very romantic. Beautiful restaurant. Crab and mussels were phenomenal, as was the sea bass. Lovely range of cocktails too.

Was an overall lovely experience and meal. Apart from at the beginning at the bar the bartender spilt a drink across the bar and went all down my clothes. We received a free drink but no apology.

We came to Rocksalt for a special occasion. The food was very nice, but the service was very poor to the point where the waitress was rude. We would not recommend the restaurant or go back ourselves, which is a shame because the food was lovely.

One in our group had stomach upset with Skate, possibly the sauce, and another considered the Pork Belly to be dry, possibly overcooked. Rest of the fixed price lunch was ok and good value particularly with the Prosecco and Tea/coffee. However, the ladies loos were small and needing an update.

Visiting Catering management being egotistical at nearby table, swearing and being general idiots by not respecting other dinners that can only afford this eating out experience infrequently. The Pork was mostly fat and had to spit it out in the toilets. Maybe l just had high expectations.

Fantastic mid week deal. Tried skate wing for the first time, absolutely amazing. The peanutter butter and chocolate mousse was to die for. My only criticism is having to pay three quid for 4 small new potatoes and was also told by waitress that one portion would be ample for two people and not made aware that the potatoes were chargeable

We were overcharged on our bill as the we had booked the midweek special and were charged for coffees, did not notice until we got back home. The selection on the midweek was not great either, it was not bad, but there was not much I would rave about. Our starters we had prawn and sweetcorn fritters with aioli which were quite greasy and there was way too much mayo which was a bit sickly for a starter, my husband had ham hock and beef dripping bread and that was really hard- very challenging to eat, Mains we had ray wing, which was lovely, maybe could have done with a bit more caramelisation, we also had the pork belly and hispi again, both could have done with a bit more- the pork so it had crackling, which is the point of the belly piece and the hispi because it is just cabbage without the char- neither came with any carbohydrate and we were not asked if we wanted to add it, it is the cheapest part of the meal so it seems odd to not put even a smear of pommes puree, a couple of new pots or something to balance the dishes . Dessert there was a chocolate, peanut option which was nice until you hit some kind of berry flavour, which did not go with the rest of the peanut, chocolate and espresso flavours, cheese and a rhubarb roly poly option was also chosen by our table, I had hoped the rhubarb and ginger pudding that was advertised that week was available, but it was not- definitely call ahead to check options. Staff were great as always, shame there is a full spot light on the table, they could do with being a few lumens lower in the evenings.

Food was wonderful, service efficient, friendly and unobtrusive. Nice buzzy atmosphere, noise levels too high for perfect comfort - will definitely be returning and recommending to friends.
Particularly commend the imaginative menu, well executed, and an excellent veg offering

My wife and I have been here a few tines before , usually for a special occasion due to location, decor and golf course great food.
Sadly, this time my wife found her main (Cod fillet with trimmings) to be extremely salty to the point where she had to leave a good proportion of it.
However, this was advise to the v attentive waiting staff who apologies and subsequently reduced the bill accordingly.
Overall, a small glitch in otherwise excellent experiences here. We WILL go again...:-)
