Interesting mix of flavors, presented nicely and served pleasantly. Overall excellent dining experience.
This restaurant is an amazing find. We just came from a soccer game and we were trying to find a casual place to cool down and unwind. Jekario was an amazing waiter and he did a really good job taking care of us. When we walked in the Executive Chef was in the front talking to customers. I asked her if I should get the Red Drum(fish) or the Whole Charred seabass. She recommended the Seabass. Got to say that fish was one of the best fish I've eaten.
We started with a dozen oysters. They were perfect with no sand. I could have kept ordering the oysters and made that my meal, but I decided on the whole Seabass. It was flaky and perfectly prepared. My wife got the Red fish and it was amazingly flaky as well. Everything was so well prepared that we'll go back when we're in town. Amazing personal experience.
Food was great! Love the oysters and the whole grilled black bass was delicious!
Great service from Katherine with great food.
We lucked out in finding this fabulous restaurant. From the professional and friendly host to the server and his coworkers, the evening was well above and beyond what we expected from a dining experience. The food was just delicious and beautifully well prepared. We sat outside on this lovely evening as the sun went down. The fish dishes were all prepared d with care and was some of the best that I have ever tasted. The drum was especially delicious. The green tomato gazpacho was great as were the dozen of oysters that we had before hand. Servers were delightful. Thanks Matt. We will definitely come back when in Charlotte and we highly recommend Rock Salt. Well worth the trip from a uptown hotel.
Excellent food and service. I am from Long Island so I really appreciated the fresh shellfish! Reminded me of home! I have already recommended Rock Salt to 2 friends!
Excellent dining experience.
They found such a tantalizing way to flavor things I normally avoid...I had oysters and actually crave their kale sauce now. Delicious food, great aesthetic, friendly service.
Food was delicious. Oysters were small, but well done. I also really enjoyed the boiled shrimp appetizer. Definitely suggest trying this place out.
I would recommend the restaurant to friends on a qualified basis. I think that they do some things well, but in some cases they do not. For example, our appetizer shrimp was significantly over seasoned with old Bay. And, it took forever every time we ordered a drink. The restaurant wasn’t so busy that I would understand that it would take 20 minutes to receive our drinks. So the service needs to be improved and in some cases the food needs to be improved.
Very slow service. Server delivered me the wrong entree - I ordered the regular portion of a dish which someone at my table ordered the same entree but from a fixed-price menu (smaller portion) and we only noticed the error mid-way through dinner. Water glasses left unfilled for quite some time. Desert took 20 minutes to deliver.
Friendly staff but very slow - restaurant was not that busy.
Frequently visit this place and we definitely are fans but can't let the coconut cake slide, even though it was restaurant week. Was really, really dry and dense and not what would be expected. The avocado and farro salad was also not up to normal standards. But again, we hold this place in high regards and it was maybe just an off night given they've had to deal with restaurant week. We'll be back without question... But being honest is important when you have a relationship with an establishment. We still love Rocksalt!
Invited friends as our guest because it’s one of their favorite Charlotte restaurants. We all enjoyed our meals and the service was outstanding. My only complaint is about the temperature. It was very chilly. So glad always take a wrap when dining out.
The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The raw and grilled oysters were as good as it gets. The swordfish was a delicacy! The vegetables were grilled to perfection. Our waitress was sweet, knowledgeable and attentive. The chairs were horribly uncomfortable. We would not return unless weather permits sitting on the patio. The furniture there is more comfortable than the furniture inside the restaurant.
Overall I enjoyed my dining (food) experience. Here are a few things to be improved upon...the hostess area was tight and no place to be waiting for a table as you excuse yourself every time someone walks by (I had a reservation and waited for my table...not uncommon but very uncomfortable when placed in a tight area) and I got sprayed on twice by the gentleman cleaning the tables next to me on both sides (the first time he was apologetic, the second time he just tried to act like it never happened). I would like to return only because the food menu is different and exciting. Not sure when or what would encourage that leap of faith upon me.
Our server was super rude. We didn' t get any refills. Food was way to less to on the plate. The whole fish was supposed to be served with mixed greens, that's what the menu said. But actually the fish was placed on four pieces of lettuce... an that was all. Very disappointing.
We were there for brunch and the food was too spicy for my husband. He said even the salad was too spicy. Won’t be back with him. I liked mine but I like spice. He had the fish tacos with salad. He originally wanted the pork tacos but didn’t want jalapeño. We asked if it could be modified but server said jalapeño was throughout the entree including the sauce.
Flies outside fairly awful
We moved outside after sitting inside for a few minutes and realized how noisy it was. Service was just OK and had to chase our waiter down a few times. Octopus was tender but quinoa was bitter. Scallops were good but sauce had an unpleasant taste.
Oysters were mangled...very poorly opened.
Seafood dish was missing saffron which is the key ingredient. The shrimp were not cooked in the broth in order to add additional flavor to the broth. There were no clams in the dish and I was not informed ahead of time that there would be no clams. There were two beans and the sausage was a cheap unflavorful sausage. I suspect all the flavor had been cooked out in an effort to make the broth more flavorful....it didn't work.
My complaint went nowhere. There was no explanation....nothing from management....crickets. I won't be back and I won't recommend it to anyone.
Excellent food and service. Our server now remembers us when we go in. Oysters are really good for not being at the coast. Dollar oysters from 4-7pm. Can’t wait to go back.
The food was ok but nothing to get excited about.
Service was very good, the atmosphere was fine the food was kind of bland
Service was pretty good, it was just too loud
WE CELIBRATED OUR 29TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY. FOOD WAS VERY GOOD. THEY KNOW HOW TO PRESENT OYSTERS ON THE HALF SHELL.. NO GRIT! THE FRESH GROUND HORSERADISH WAS A GREAT TOUCH.
We sat outside on a hot night a waited a while before we flagged down a server who promptly helped us. The manager bought all of our appetizers because of our wait and came over in person to apologize. All of our food was excellent- oysters, appetizers, mains and cocktails. Service was outstanding after the initial wait - this is an example of great service combined with exceptional food - you don’t find it too often and we will definitely be back!
The oysters are great! Steamed shrimp too. Pimento cheese cornbread is bland.
Had a great experience at Rock Salt! Went on a Friday night at 6:15 for the $1 Oysters. Sat on their awesome patio and everything was wonderful! We will definitely be back!
Excellent food. Service a bit slow, getting drinks etc.
Expensive for what you get.
I always like the seafood at Rock Salt. They should continue to keep it fresh, source as much as they can locally, and continue to update the menu including the wine list.
Very enjoyable! Excellent oysters; the grits were outstanding! Quick, friendly service. Thursday was $1 oysters with 1/2 price wine- great value. Will return again soon!
Food was simply not good. Fish tasted ‘fishy’, flavorless smoked trout, all in all a disappointment
Tasting menu with wine is the way to go. Chef came out and talked us through all her choices and wine pairings. Great way to try new things and get the full gastronomy experience.
Love the Thursday Happy Hour and Wine Specials. The fish of the day was also perfectly prepared.
Special date, it was a celebration!
Love the ambiance of the restaurant. The service was excellent. Our server Allie knows her stuff. From every item on the menu, how it is prepared, where it’s sourced from to wine recommendations and options. The food arrived in a timely manner and was excellent!!! We’ll be back!!
Best if you like oysters. We don't so it was hard to find something on the menu. We just had some apps and they were very good.
We ate outside. The waitress was probably not happy with this choice. Food was served, but table still didn’t have silverware and I had to pick up by myself.
Before we finished the starters, the main course was already served, so we didn’t have time to enjoy the great food and wine....
BTW the food was perfect!
Phenomenal food and service. We were pestered by a fair amount of gnats as we sat outside on the patio but it didn’t prevent us from having an excellent experience! I’ll be back...
