Rocking Horse Café is located in the upscale New York City neighborhood of Chelsea, where it has become the epitome of fun and class. It delivers mouthwatering Mexican dishes in an elegant atmosphere. Stop in to Rocking Horse Café and enjoy modern and exciting cuisine for brunch, lunch and dinner.
The fun at Rocking Horse Café doesn't stop with the food. It's the perfect place to kick back for a happy hour drink with friends. The full service bar serves up bright and fruity cocktails of all different colors and flavors. If you miss happy hour, take advantage of the prix fixe drink menu every evening.
This is a Mexican restaurant across the street from the Joyce Theater (dance). It's a great place to eat before enjoying a show. It's seems like it would be a popular bar scene in nicer weather.
They make their own tortillas and chips. Tasty guacamole. We had a couple of happy hour appetizers (like the fish tacos and salmon taco), and mole plantains. Food is very good.
The bar area at the front is lively. This time (our second) we sat in the back where it is quieter, but harder to get your server's attention if you need something.
I always love the food. But they have a habit of deciding o close early. Unfortunately for me this night was to spend with friends I only see twice a year and the bus boy kept clearing our food before we finished. We even left before they closed but the end felt rushed and we couldn't actually enjoy one last drink. We decided to leave and go for a night cap elsewhere.
Went with a friend - neither of us had been there before. What a treat. Our entrees were delicious but both of us were wowed by the dipping sauce that came with the tortilla chips. Different and delicious.
This was not a memorable place to dine food was good not great. Tortilla served with guacamole non dis script. Would have rather the chips which we had to ask for although there was abundance of chips at bar.
Food was awesome
One of my old favorites. The chips and salsa are unique and the staff is always helpful and friendly/
The restaurant had music, but was not too noisy.
Seating was not too crowded.
The food was very good and a good value.
I have the shrimp burritos which were delicious.
The waiter recommended something that is popular and when I received it , it was less than appealing. So I asked for something else. When that came they accidentally gave it to the table next to me. So as I'm watching them eat my food they Realize the mistake take it from them and 15 mins later bring me out my food. It was cold and tasteless
So many great options! We dined during restaurant week and we're lucky to have gotten a table at our preferred seating on OpenTable! Recommend the burrito with chicken very highly! The hint of avocado is heavenly. Add on a spicy margarita with a spicy salt rim and perfection awaits! Use to eat here all the time and now that I don't frequent the area often it fell of the rotation; so glad to see it's still as fantastic as ever!
Service was nice, but I feel like things could've happened faster. But I'm an impatient new yorker
Always satisfied here. Great food and service. The Cadillac margarita is delicious and the hanger steak burrito a winnet.
Fantastic meal!!!! Creative and whimsical Mexican food with a twist to the traditional. Every single bite was a full experience of great taste and texture. The final touch was a rich and luscious chocolate dessert that complemented the meal to perfection.
Everything was good - drinks were good (what you'd expect from a frozen marg in a mexican place aka a little too sweet but decently strong), guac was great especially with the tortillas and extras they brought with it. Tried my roommate's enchiladas, and they were good. I ordered the carnita tacos though, and the meat was WAY over cooked to the point where it was crunchy/charred/burned.
The quesadillas were dry and the guacamole took a bit too long to come out. Great for drinks, but food wasn't a hit this time.
Try the drink with Yellow Red Bull in it!! Perfection!!! The food is awesome! Everything we ate was a party for my mouth!
very spicy Mexican style, with tasty guacamole and taco dishes
A friend from out of town wanted Mexican. I hadn't been to Rocking Horse in years, but it was near her hotel. It was a good choice. She really liked her pumpkin crusted fish tacos + the guac / salsa was good. We split a flourless chocolate torte w/ spicy cinnamon ice cream. It was really good.
The service was really good. Super attentive yet not crowding. Really appreciate good service in a sea of wait staff that seems "over" what they're doing.
I'd been here before and liked it (a couple of years ago), but... We started out with the sweetest Margarita I've ever tasted. I had to send it back (our server was very nice about it.) Food was just o.k., nothing special, from stale chips to over-sauced mole to really bland platonos. The waiter recommended a side of brussels sprouts, which could have been fine, but were also waaaaay too sweet and syrupy. There are too many excellent Mexican places in Manhattan to recommend this.
I am obsessed with this restaurant. The chips and salsa are some of the best I've ever had, the rest of the food is always delicious (try the chilequiles!), and the drinks are outstanding (no overly sugary margaritas here). The service is always friendly and cheerful. If there's one negative it's that the tables are very tight, so with winter coats and such we were pretty smushed into our table. Otherwise, I love this place so much for brunch, lunch, or dinner!
Went for New Year's Day brunch. Everything was wonderful. Can't beat the prix fix brunch. Had the Huevos Rancheros and Mahi-mahi tacos. Both were excellent.
This is the second time my sisters and I have had brunch (or lunch) here before a matinee at the Joyce and it is always great fun. It is our annual holiday get together so we like to sit over lunch for a couple of hours and they are great about it - great drinks and very reasonable wine list - and great food!
The Rocking Horse Café continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. The food is innovative and delicious. If you've got a date and you'd like to take him/her somewhere visually fun, with a pleasant waitstaff, and, great food, you can't go wrong with the Rocking Horse Café. The tamales are badass.
Food here is fine and plentiful, but nothing special. The service is outstanding - friendly and attentive. A nice, inexpensive neighborhood spot.
We had lots of fun and great food at this neighborhood NYC place.
great service, adorable waiters, nice looking crowd, fun atmosphere, mediocre food.
Not only was the food great, but the service has set the bar high. Our glasses of water were always full and our food was out quick ! our server checked in an appropriate amount of time without being over bearing but it was easy to get his attention if we needed anything! The Guac was refreshingly different and was presented in a way that allowed you to customize it to flavor! we will DEF be coming back to Rocking horse soon.
Food was so good. Everything we had was amazing. Margaritas were good but mostly ice
This restaurant does wonderful things with Mexican classics, even the ubiquitous guacamole to start. Where else can you get tacos with mahi mahi or lamb or huitlacoche? And their homemade tortillas give all the ingredients a special embrace.
First time at Rocking Horse for brunch before a performance at the Joyce Theatre. Excellent service and delicious food. Festive but not noisy atmosphere. It will become my regular spot in the neighborhood.
This is a long-time favorite of mine. It is not the cheapest option, but the food and service are superb, especially for the money. My only issue is with the noise level. Early seatings are usually fine, but the noise becomes loud and at times unbearable starting around 8 or 8:30 on weekends.
We go here before performances at The Joyce. Good food and very nice service.
Good reliable meal before our performance at The Joyce. We come here a lot before the ballet. The service is always good and friendly.
After all these years, it is still my go to place!
Place has gone down hill over the years. Drinks now suck and have zero alcohol in them.
Seemed like a tequila bar that serves food. My date had lamb dish that was very bland though menu mentioned spices. My dish was fine, but overprices for what it was. The servers were very nice, but food came out of kitchen slowly. Most people seemed to be there to drink...
Super-friendly and efficient service, excellent food, yummy cocktails, and excellent selection for all dietary requirements. I love this place!
I met a friend here for lunch. The space is narrow and it can get a bit loud, but the vibe is friendly and the service was attentive without being overbearing. Everything we had was fresh and cooked well, with yummy, if not earth-shattering flavors. I had the grilled vegetable burrito but because I was yearning for the homemade corn tortillas, they offered to make me a deconstructed one: all the filling ingredients on a plate, with the corn tortillas on the side. My friend had chicken tacos, which she loved. My only complaint was that the portions were on the small side but the price was about average for what it was. But I was happy to trade bargain for fresh ingredients cooked well!
Drinks were expensive. Food was decent Mexican with a little flair. Guacamole was good with some interesting side add-ons and served with flavored tortillas. Chicken Enchiladas tasted good but were a bit dry. Drink service was slow on the 2nd round while we were eating. Had to ask 3 times for our 2nd drink order to be served. Not a bad place for a casual Mexican dinner but I wouldn't Uber from another part of Manhattan to get there.
I enjoyed the ambiance and the service was superb from the moment I stepped into the restaurant until I left. Not to mention, the food was extraordinarily yummy :)
I loved the steak and arugula dish and the guac was fabulous.
definitely going back
Smelled bad and gnats flying around. Service was very attentive but the food was not good!
