Rockin Baja Lobster Old Town never disappoints. Yes, it’s kitschy. Yes, it’s over the top...but every single time it’s fun, coupled with excellent service and tasty food. It’s a happy place that caters to all age groups and even has a dog friendly patio. It’s worth a visit just for the amazing salsa bar!
Excellent service and food. I love hanging out in Old Town San Diego on every visit and the Rockin Baka Lobster will be added to the list!
Great atmosphere. The service was great, family friendly, drinks were fantastic. A bit pricey for some menu items.
If you're either 21 and up for overpriced drinks or a family with screaming kids then this place is perfect for you! I eat Mexican food at least weekly and love guacamole but never have I had it were they achieved Zero flavor. If I closed my eyes I wouldn't have been able to tell you! The salsa bar was dirty , and they keep bins of tortilla chips in a side room under a heat lamp. I couldn't believe anyone either than above groups would even remotely recommend this! Atrocious!
Great food, live band, awesome server, amazing margaritas! We’ll be back!
server was attentive. everything was brought to us in a timely matter. hopefully another date will happen again :)
Out of town conference dinner experience with the family. Great music, outstanding Michelada, lobster and crab was outstanding, and the salsa butter is the greatest invention ever! Our server, Blanca, was great as well.
Great experience as always when I go to this location. Sat at the bar and our bartender/waitress Maggie was great, couldn’t have been better. She was very attentive even though she was busy (only one working the bar), always made sure we were doing ok with our food, drinks and what we needed. Food and drinks were delicious and didn’t have to wait too long for it. 5 stars all around for me, great food, service and atmosphere 👍🏼
Atmosphere and service rules the evening here as the food was off tonight. We’ve been here numerous times, mostly taking first time visitors before or after a trip to the airport to arrive into/depart San Diego. Specifically, the chips at the chip bar weren’t seasoned (normally always had a seasoned salt/old bay type flavoring) and my wife’s lobster quesadilla was flat (even mistaken for a cheese quesadilla by a member of our party). Hope Rockin Baja doesn’t miss again as it might be the end of the line for us.
On Easter Sunday 2019 I had a party of 15. I made my reservation and requested a private room a week before. I knew it was a holiday so I planned on some hiccups but everything went smoothly.
I was seated 5 mins early with half of my party, they did not make us wait on everyone to be there at the same time.
Water came out fast, however I think they forgot about ordering our real drinks, but no big deal we walked right up to the bar and ordered.
Food came out within 30 mins for one side of the table and 45 for the other.
Vegan options are available, the fajita skillets are my favorite I recommend them!
Overall, I had a great going away dinner, food, service, ambiance was great! Thanks Adrian- our main waiter !
Delicious food , great area of Old Town to walk around and enjoy!!
We celebrated family Easter at this location and we were all very pleased.
Vibe was great and the food was some of the best. Live music and hospitality was superior.
We arrived and were seated right away. Our server was friendly and attentive. We had a couple of delicious tropical margaritas each before ordering dinner as we were celebrating my partner's birthday. We both ordered the Baja style Lobster dinner which was absolutely delicious along with dinner I also ordered the Cesar salad which was superb. Everything was perfect. We come here from Los Angeles a few times a year and during our stays we always come to Rockin Bajas. We love the food, service and atmosphere. Looking forward to coming again and again.
Very nice casual family dinning with excellent service
Cute place. Staff was very friendly. Definitely a must if you're in Old Town San Diego.
Went with 3 adults and 2 teens 14 and 15. Enjoy food and usually enjoy the atmosphere, but this time it was awful. Could have been a perfect experience, EXCEPT for ridiculously loud band. We even moved to a separate room and still could not hear the waitress or each other. We like fun music and even to dance as much as the next guy, but would suggest that they play the music perhaps a slightly softer during dinner hours and then perhaps louder during later bar hours. --- We are not old folks... as noted...love fun atmosphere, but it was awful... and the band was loud but not that great musically. in fact in the hour plus we where there, they already starting set over again. It seemed like Rockin Baja assumes the people eating together do not want to talk to each other....just watch TV and have music. Again, we like the music ...just a bit lower would have been good. --- Teen and adults alike found it exhausting and ....and we even have big mouths!...If the band was not so loud, would have given 4 to 5 stars
Great service and we got seated immediately. Fantastic buckets, cold drinks and very attentive service. I highly recommend.
Food was good, our first server was non-existent but once he left and we got our new one, he was amazing!
2nd time going, 1st time the food was amazing! The atmosphere is awesome, very well decorated. Everyone working there was wonderful & friendly. The only complaint I have is this 2nd visit, our food was somewhat cold when we received it & the meat was dry. Seemed as if it was cooked earlier, not freshly cooked. They were very busy, so we looked past it & just ate. They offer a chips & salsa bar which is great. Will definitely go back again.
We have gone to Rockin Baja Lobster in the past and it was wonderful. However from the moment we went to the front to check in for our reservation at 6:45 we waited until after 7 to be seated. The hostess was very rude. Did not look up at me once when I asked her a question or even when another party came up for their reservation. After we were seated our waiter came over, ordered our drinks (only time he was attentive to us) He came back after sometime, we ordered our food. What we ordered was The Original Big Baja Bucket" which was fine if we would have got our endless ranchero beans and rice. He brought us one plate ( that was enough for 1 person) and one round of tortillas. We asked for another round of beans and rice and two oyster shooters. We did not receive either. It seemed as though he forgot about us. Another person came to pick up our plates. We waited for our check...waited... and waited some more. I understand it was a Saturday night and somewhat busy but we were forgotten.
Good food and great entertainment on the outdoor patio. Great lobster tacos!
Lobster special on wensday was good. Price went up 5.00. Tequila shrimp appetizer was great but only 4 one.
Lobster tacos and shrimp bucket were so over cooked meat was tough. Flavor was there but preparation ruined a potentially decent meal. The same two rounds of drinks tasted totally different. Waitress continued to get the “no salt” request wrong. We ordered second round of drinks at start of food arriving still did not have our drinks after finished. Waitress said that the bar ran out of fresh squeezed lime juice but we knew that wasn’t true since we could see other margaritas going out. Waitress sent out shrimp tacos instead of shrimp bucket and insinuated that we ordered it wrong. Drinks were more limeade than alcohol. Horrible experience to what appeared to be a fun place. I would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone. The waitress made it even worse.
Every time my granddaughters come to visit a trip to Old Town and Rockin' Baja is always built into our fun days. The people are very attentive, the drinks are refreshing and the food is just the right spice for the grandkids. Yes, it does tend to get noisy but for me that just goes with families and people enjoying themselves.
This is my favorite place to eat .
I always recommended to my friends to come and try this place . Our waiter is very friendly and have good service .
I was asked by hostess if I ever been here before, we (my} wife said no, we was shown are table we sit down and that was it nothing else was said. we learn how to help are self to chips and salsa by watching other people getting up. music was too LOUD and we was sitting close to the front door, we had to asked are waiter to order foods and drinks. over all the foods was hot, service in a timely manner and was "great"
Loved, loved, loved. From the food to the ambiance, I will be back and will bring all of my friends!! Don’t miss the lobster bites.
Disappointed in the vibe here and the service. Slow and sloppy. Don’t like the self serve chips and tiny plastic salsa cups that you have to get yourself and they don’t provide a way to get it back to the table so you have to juggle a carton of chips with several little plastic cups of salsa.
Food wasn’t bad, salad I had was fresh but basic.
It was a cold evening and so cold inside I had to wear my coat for dinner.
They also add 3% into the bill at the end because they can, it’s not part of the tip, just a surcharge because they want to.
To top it off, I ordered a blended margarita and got rocks. Never saw the server again to tell him.
Val was our server, she was GREAT! Our food didnt take long at all, she was very attentive to our every need. Thanx Val!
I had an issue with not getting my food with the our party. They fixed the problem right away and comped me my food! The service was top notch and food was great!
Great palce to eat. The service is awesome and the food also. The mango margaritas is the best.
Janine was great...! She made our Happy Birthday experience the BEST EVER!!!
Love the food and vibe. However we were a large group and were seated right next to the love band. Although the band was great not really ideal seating area. Yelling across the table
Went with the dinner for 2. Pretty tasty but the lobsters were tiny little guys 😩
I made a reservation with 5 days in advance and got the worst table of the whole place, right next to the live band. The noise was so much that we asked for a different table and the waiter told us “that’s why you should make a reservation At least 24 hours in advance” my party of 7 looked at her like: is that the Best you can say? Waited for like 20 min in the cocktail area until they got a better table for us. Other than this food was great and the new waiter was really nice.
Good food and good service
Yes, but the food quality has slipped since the last time I was there.
The best experience ever... our waiter Terre was absolutely amazing. Made my hubby birthday unforgettable!!!
