Rockin Baja Lobster Old Town Ratings and Reviews
We celebrated Father's Day on Saturday for lunch.
The server was attentive and efficient. We had 9 people in our group which included two three year olds. The restaurant was very accommodating.
The food was authentic and delicious. The Cadillac margaritas were too sweet and not enough tequila (of course).
We sat in the back covered patio. It was a warm day. Wished management turned all the oscillating fans on....suggestion....outdoor air conditioners!
We will be back.
Rockin Baja is a very busy and festive place! Live music is actually quite good even though you're not expecting it or maybe, expecting Mexican style music instead... Their chips and salsa bar is AWESOME! However, you can fill up on them fast so save room! Good food and good service, but not excellent. Drinks are really tasty, but they are pricey. Taco Tuesday is a great deal and their happy hour looks good too!
Went here for a girl's get together on a Friday night. Just FYI, if you come with a large group, they will seat you when a majority of the group is present. The food was good and they have a good selection of drinks. Our waitress was very sweet. Good place for a causal dinner. The only downside I would say is that the live music is too loud, can't really have a conversation without screaming at each other.
Haven't used open table before, but setting up the reservation was simple and easy. Checked in with the hostess and tbey had us seated exactly on time. I have made the trip to Rockin Baja a few times. The service was great and the server was very attentive. Food was always great as usual. Sea of Cortez bucket if you want lobster tails, shrimp and a healthy pair of snow crab clusters.
The service was good. Ambiance was good. Food was marginal. The self-serve chips and salsa bar was a nice touch, and it was probably the highlight of the meal. I had the lobster lovers dish. The taco was good. The enchilada tortilla was very tough as though it had been over-reheated. Some pieces of lobster were decent in the enchilada while others were too tough to eat.
Our daughter wanted to try lobster & we wanted to meet up with a friend, this place was great. We split the shrimp & lobster bucket, our daughter had the seafood skillet, & our friend had the ahi tacos. The food was outstanding & now our daughter likes lobster!
The hostess's at the front were very rude and seemed "put out" by doing their job. When approaching the stand to inquire about our reservation the second night the girl working the stand rolled her eyes and told me "its going to be awhile." I had made a reservation online at 4:00 pm that day for a 7:45 reservation for 15 people. We ended up being seated at 8:00 which is reasonable with our party size and the fact that the place was PACKED(very different from our Thursday night dining experience.). But both times we visited we were greeted with bad attitudes. Other than that the place was EXCELLENT! The first time we went it was my SO and myself. It was a quiet Thursday afternoon, we were seated by the waterfall on the back patio and the environment and wait staff were excellent. On Sunday we wanted to return with family that we were visiting, Again the service inside the restaurant was great. We loved the salsa bar and all the variety! Overall it was a great experience both times.
We went to Rockin Baja for our 11-year-old son's birthday because he absolutely loves their lobster tails. What we did not expect was the level of service we got from Kelly, the manager that night, and Jess, our server. We had a party of 8, so we weren't surprised to find our table in one of the cozy backrooms. That would have been fine, but the live music was a Santana cover band called Santana Pa Ti, and since our son is an aspiring guitarist, and we'll-versed in classic rock, he desperately wanted to sit near the band.
When we asked our hostess she was courteous in saying, yes, but it would take a little while for a table to open up. We ordered drinks and had just about given up when the band began playing "Europa" and when most of our party got up and left the table to be near the live music, Kelly saw an opportunity to take care of his customers, and did exactly that. He moved us across the restaurant, kept our server the same, and let the band know that we had a special birthday boy that deserved a song in celebration.
The Baja Buckets came quickly after the delicious cocktails, and those buckets held more than enough food for us to leave with over-stuffed bellies.
The meal, the ambience, the entire experience was magical. Our son said it was his best birthday dinner ever! Granted, he's only got 11 to look back on, but we'll consider it a victory nonetheless.
Thanks Kelly, Jess, Santana Pa Ti, and everyone else at Rockin Baja for making our night amazing!
I love this restaurant! I went to the Old Town location for my birthday with my family and reserved a table for 15. The seating was perfect and the service was great. We ordered the Baja Buckets and we all shared family style. The food was excellent with a big selection to eat from: lobster, shrimp, steak, chicken and all u can eat flour tortillas with rice & beans...oh and of course the chips & salsa bar. It was perfect timing too because we got to see the soccer game while we had desert and opened up my gifts. Overall it was a perfect night at a really cool restaurant :)
During our stay in San Diego we dined at Rockin Baja Lobster. It was very nice. The location is very pretty. We used the valet parking of the restaurant, because it's difficult to find a parking place in Oldtown. The food was tasty and fresh. The service was excellent and the food was served quickly. Especially on weekends it's very busy, so a reservation is highly recommended.
Our server juanito was excellent. My observation is on the front with a hosted they had a mess with the people, we have a reservation 2 day ago with open table and we was waiting 15 minutes after our schedule, and we was inside all the tables was empty, I can't understand why? But the food and the service was excellent, everything the salsa bar has was clean. Thanks Rockyn baja
The live music on Friday night this time was not very good and it was very loud, which made conversation grind to a halt. The best part of the evening was when the singer took a break for about 20 minutes. You also don't seem to have enough food servers for the size room. Make the chips and salsa area look a little less like a trough.
If you are looking for a taste of Baja Mexico, this is your spot! The salsa bar fits all appetites and heat levels. The lobster tails are just as yummy as Puerto Nuevo, but the price is double what you pay if you cross the border. Fun music and lively atmosphere to spice up your day or night. I love it!!! This location is walking distance to old town and. Alex parking only $5. Check it out!
