Rockin Baja Lobster Newport Ratings and Reviews
I came here with 7 family members, so a a fairly big group. Our waitress was very attentive and we didn't have to wait long for our food to come out. The restaurant was busy/lively, but we could all hear each other talking perfectly fine. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. I ordered the ahi tuna tacos and they were great. Most of the meals contained seafood, but even my cousin who is not a fan, was happy with his chicken sandwich. Also the restaurant is right on the beach so we were able to enjoy a stroll along the pier after dinner.
While on a beach vacation, we decided to take the whole gang to dinner on our night. The grandkids love Mexican food and seafood so this sounded perfect. It was good food and portions are huge. Marissa was a very attentive server. Thank you!
Tables were a bit sticky but the place was casual so we let that slide. Besides our little ones added to the stickiness! Parking is terrible. We parked in the valet around the corner where sign said $4.00 but as it turned out that was for the higher end restaurant in front. We had to pay$20!
Knowing all of this we would go back...lobster bites were yummy!!
I booked a table on line for 6. When we arrived (5min earlier than our reservation) the receptionist told us she didn't know why our accepted on line because they had no room for us and she didn't know what she could do. Mind you she was also very unpleasant!! Finally she says she can seat us but the tables would be seperate... After that we sit and go over the menu... Our waiter comes to take our order and is rushing us and rather irritated that we had questions... The nerve of us to ask which margarita they recommend! I order the spicy cucumber and end up with a regular Cadillac margarita.... Unreal!!! Not a friendly face in the whole place. Not a smile. No customer service. No thank you!!!
We went to Rockin' Lobster for my birthday lunch and enjoyed buckets of lobsters. They are delicious with the most amazing seasoning. So amazing that we bought two bottles to take home to put on our own grilled seafood. The service is really terrific. We were well taken care of by a really nice server who made my birthday lunch extra special by bringing me a fried ice cream. Thank you!!! We will be returning to this terrific restaurant soon!
It was a Sunday morning and we planned to meet some of our motorcycling friends for lunch. We originally made reservations for 12:45, but got down there earlier. They were able to seat us immediately. Fortunately, our friends got down there early enough to get a parking space because if they hadn't, parking is a mess there at the pier area.
So we sat on the patio, which was nice, but kinda had an alleyway feel to it. Quite a bit of foot traffic, but not much of a view. The table they sat us at was pretty small. It had a bucket in the middle with napkins, utensils, and salt/pepper. There was no way 4 drinks, 4 large plates and everything else would fit on that small table. We had to ask for an extra chair to put the bucket and a few other things on.
We ordered the Tequilla shrimp appetizer that was awesome. They also brought out chips with three different kinds of salsa that were also pretty good. I had the Tres Amigos Tacos, which were three tacos...one carne asada, one shrimp, and one lobster. Those were all very good as well. My g/f had the lobster fajitas tacos, She said her's were very tasty and she liked them.
We got there early enough to beat the lunch crowd, so they were not busy. Our food came out pretty quickly and was all very hot and fresh. It may be weird, but one of the ways I generally rate service is by my drink glass. Today I had water, and I had to ask several times for a refill. I like the waiter/waitress that sees a half full glass and either refills it, or at least asks if you'd like a refill.
Overall, this was a very nice lunch experience. I'd go back, but I'd like to try the Old Town San Diego location next time.
My girl took me for my birthday, and it's always great. It was her and her daughters first time and they really enjoyed it. Only issue is its sooooooo far away and the table they put us at was right in the middle of all the people traffic. Aside from that I would have gave them 5 stars!!! I will be back, I always have fun and get wonderfully delish food...... Deuces!!!
My Husband and I have been coming here since we first started dating 16 years ago, regardless of management changes, menu changes they hold true to a relaxed, casual environment with Baja style food. It's like being sun kissed in Mexico on the beach and eating fresh seafood with a Corona in hand. We love it here, and continually visit on every special occasion. We commute an hour with out traffic to enjoy this place... If that doesn't say how pleased we are I don't know what does.
This was my first visit to this restaurant, it was absolutely delicious. I went during Newport Beach restaurant week, what an amazing deal! The seafood tasted exceptional and the dessert was beyond mouthwatering! I can't wait to return for happy hour and taco Tuesday!
It was our first time to go there and we could not find the place right away. Even we had GPS.
We made a reservation with Open Table it helped us a lot. I had a window seat which you can see ocean. I guess it was the only one spot with a view in the restaurant. The food was great and we needed two containers to bring leftover to home. Waiting time was about 25 minutes but was not so bad as we had chips and three kinds of salsa for start.
OUTSTANDING Seafood , Taste is to die for, Price is not too extravagent.. Guacamole n Salsa are delish, Michelada were tasty , Mixed drinks not weak nor watery. Salad was fresh n crispy. Dessert was scrumptious. We had seating for 12 . We got there early n were seated shortly. piped in music was requested 3 x before it was turned on up stairs .My only : ( is there are no coupons for this restaurant . I n another searched the web : (
Took my mom here and had a great time! We were a little unsure at first because it seemed really small but after we sat down it was perfect. It was a lot more intimate which was great. I could actually have a nice conversation and enjoy really good food. The only thing was that it got pretty busy and service wasn't on top of it all the time. Other than that it was great! I couldn't get over how amazing the lobster was!
This was the best place for lobster and combo buckets. How things have changed. The buckets are so made for you to have to purchase more than one to get what was all in one big bucket. I did order the 2lb lobster platter for two. Its was not all that. I drove from Az. and was not only stuck in traffic but our waitress was not only fake seeing her interact with us at times snippy, then seeing her in action with her acting friendly act was disgusting. Especially how she would just tell her co workers pocket rocket night tonight. watch and see. The best thing was the hard workers in the kitchen and the males that worked there. They were always going out of our way .
I recently dined at the Rockin Baja Lobster in San Diego and the entire experience in San Diego far exceeded what I received in Newport. By this being a beach area restaurant I expected better service, better food, and overall better dining experience. The tables were dirty, the service was exceptionally slow, and the food was bland and the chips were stale
Our friend told us about Rockin Baja in Newport Beach, but we waited for out-of-town visitors before we gave it a try. What a wonderful place for a fun lunch! The buckets are amazing! The lobster and shrimp fresh and the spice mix really finger-licken' good! Service was friendly and attentive, the crowd energetic and fun, really I can't say enough good things.
We will be coming back here--definitely now my favorite place in Newport!
Great Baja style seafood used in a variety of dishes. We ordered a Baja Bucket for two with lobster, shrimp and crab legs that came with rice, beans and tortillas. It was more than enough for two! I can't talk much about the ambience since we sat in a tight corner in the back the bar. I assume there is a dining room upstairs, but that wasn't available even though we made a reservation (which wasn't needed). Oh, and the cocktails are good. I had a pina colada, which I haven't had in years and it was so yummy! Like having dessert with my meal. Hubby had a Long Island and said it was very good. All in all we had a good time and really enjoyed the food.
We had to wait for one hour!! Because no reservation found in the system. I still have the confirmation e-mail. I came from all the way from Pomona to Newport Beach, they were asking me if I made reservation San Diego location!! I am not sure is that something OpenTable issue or the restaurant ? We loved food but I can't trust open table reservation !!!
THIS IS A FAVORITE PLACE FOR MY FRIENDS, NOT SO MUCH FOR ME, BUT IT'S OKAY. THE PLACE IS RELATIVELY SMALL AND EXTREMELY NOISY AND DIFFICULT FOR A HANDICAPPED PERSON IN A WHEELCHAIR TO ACCESS. IF YOU LOVE SEAFOOD, IT'S A GREAT PLACE. FRENCH FRIES ARE AVERAGE AT BEST; DON'T CARE FOR THE BEANS AND RICE. THE TORTILLAS ARE GREAT WITH THE HONEY CHIPOTLE BUTTER MY FAVORITE THING. MY FRIENDS LOVE THE CRAB LEGS AND SHRIMP AND LOBSTER CORN CHOWDER AS WELL AS THE SMORES' DESSERT. THE SERVICE WAS FANTASTIC.
We came here for the first time for the Newport Beach Restaurant Week. The foods overall were great. The service was excellent. The Ahi Poke was the appetizer of choice. The complimentary chips and three kinds of salsa were delicious. We ended up asking for more. This was kind of make up for the waitress for forgetting to bring the rice and beans that was supposedly included in the entree (Famous Baja Bucket). My friend had the Mexican Caesar salad which was just OK. The Epic Burrito was excellent. My friend also had two cocktails (I forgot what he ordered because I don't drink) and they were great. We both had the fired Ice Cream and that was a good choice.
I had read a few mixed reviews from this website concerning the Rockin' Baja Lobster. We decided it was worth the risk, and we were well rewarded for our decision. After ordering you get a bowl of chips that comes with three different salsas; mango, red and green. The menu is robust with everything from seafood steam pots to tacos and hamburgers. We decided to go with one of the pots that had snow crab, lobster tails and shrimp. The lobster tails are cut in half, and were slightly overcooked, but not a total disappointment. The shrimp are HUGE and are very delicious. The staff was very friendly and were quick to respond to requests. It was a fun atmosphere and the food was very tasty, well worth the gamble to visit.
The service was the only bright spot. The lobster burger was bordering on pathetic. The slight bit of lobster was soggy and tasteless and the rest of the sandwich without flavor except for the overpowering Tabasco mayonnaise. The Ceaser salad was tossed with almost no dressing and was nearly unrecognizable and flavorless. For a restaurant with lobster in its name the diner certainly deserves better!
I love the place, it's near the beach. We ordered sea of cortez bucket--lobster tail sooo awesome..shrimp and snow crab so tasty... and the best dessert I've ever had is fried ice cream...it is soooo yummy...Prices are affordable, waiting time not so bad. We are definitely recommend this to friends..
