Rock Center Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Despite making reservations weeks in advance we were seated at a tiny table blocking the main walkway into the restaurant. Every 15 seconds my chair was knocked into by a server trying to squeeze through. After being seated 20 minutes and not seeing a waiter we complained to the hostess and were finally waited on. The menu has changed to a three course fixed priced menu for the month of December. For $50 I ordered a very average turkey sandwich similar to what is served at Subway but lower quality. It was such a mob in there that it was difficult to talk. The line was so long for the restroom that I decided to walk back to my hotel vs waiting in line. It wax extremely disappointing. Will never return there.
We went to Rock Center Cafe on a Saturday at 11:30am. We were hoping to have brunch but they only offered a prix fixe lunch menu. Overall, the service was slow. It took a while for them to take our order. We ordered our food and about 30-40 minutes later they brought our main entree but forgot our starter (lobster bisque). We let them know that we hadn't received our bisque yet. They took away the entrees and brought our bisque. From there, things went pretty smoothly. The food was pretty good. The best part was the view of Rockefeller ice skating rink. It was wonderful! Despite the service issues, I would dine there again.
If you want to see the rink at night while eating, it’s a decent spot. Even though we had a reservation we had to wait an additional 45 minutes for a table, as when we checked in on time it put us in que with the walk ins. The noise level was Pretty high, which did not allow much for table conversation. I realize it’s was more than likely due to holiday and weekend timing so I would recommend to others, so long as they’ve got realistic expectations.
It was mother / daughter day !! We went to see the tree and have dinner. The restaurant was very busy, but our waiter was great and we had a great view of tree and the ice skaters. Food was ok but a little pricey, but I think its all about the view. It was a nice treat during the holiday season. I would recommend it
We went before going to see the Rockettes. We got there and were seated promptly near the window. It was a 90 minute wait without a reservation. The servers were very attentive. The food was good but a little slow coming out. Reservations are a must during the holiday season. If you are going to eat here before the Rockettes, I would recommend getting the reservation about 90 minutes prior to the show so you have plenty of time. Their signature drinks, winter sangria and the hot toddy were amazing. It was also great people watching.
We took our granddaughters here for lunch before going to Radio City for the Christmas Show. It worked out perfectly. They sat us right away and the service was amazing. The food came quickly and was very good. They had a kids menu. The waiters were very nice. We didn’t have much time before the show and we were a bit concerned about timing but all worked out perfectly. It was fun watching the skaters. Just a little pricy but worth it for us in this occasion. Don’t go without a reservation, especially around Christmas!
Had a drink at the bar, vibrant and lively. Sat for dinner promptly and Service was very good. Our seats were by the window, so we had an excellent view of the ice skating rink and tree, definitely a good people watching seat. I was presently surprised that the food was excellent. Definitely a good spot to dine during the holiday season
It has been quite a few years since I had dined here. My memory of my previous visit was the Rock was a special place with near fine dining. This time it is very simple with no tablecloths more like a cafeteria. I guess that is why it is called the Rock Cafe. The view is good of the Center's ice skating. Of course you look through dirty windows. Our waiter seemed non caring with a get you in and get you out attitude. Although it was long between courses, the food was only adequate and not memorable.
Every year to celebrate the Christmas season I take my wife to lunch or dinner to the Rock Center Cafe. This time the food was poorly prepared. I ordered a roast beef no bread sandwich which was under cooked and the dressing lacked pizzazz. My wife enjoyed the chicken cacciatore. Being allergic to certain foods I ate Brussels sprouts which were al dente and cold. There was no gluten free menu. You should go to the Rock Center Cafe for the ambiance not for the food. I’ve eaten better across the river at Jersey diners. Today’s lunch was not worth the price.
The restaurant could use a little updating
Very disappointed. Was a special occasion for our party of three while we were in town from Florida for a holiday experience. Made reservation months in advance. Was stuck in a corner with virtually no view of skating ring. I specifically picked this restaurant for the view. When asked to be moved to a table with a view they told me their was nothing they could do to accommodate me. I was willing to pay their inflated prices for the view and experience but when we were stuck in the corner, it could have been any old restaurant. Would never go their just for the food, price or service.
During the holiday season, the Rock Center Café is one of our favorite restaurants in New York. It's location and great view of the skating rink at the Rockefeller Center is fun and unique. The food is delicious and our service was perfect. We had lunch with guests from Florida and thoroughly enjoyed our entire experience.
Travel into NYC to see the Christmas Decorations and Ambience. We got an excellent seat, window side. It was a wonderful experience. Just know because of the time of year we went it was over crowded and loud in there. It was great to experience it at least one time. Wonderful view of the skaters, Christmas Tree and Rockefeller Center statue. Would recommend it as a Christmas experience!
Food and service was good. Was disappointed that a couple without reservations got a much better table and view than we did. We came in at the same time and were put towards the back, they were next to the window where all the ice skating was. That was part of the reason my date and I had booked reservations in advance. Overall it was a good experience
My wife and I have been starting the day of our wedding anniversary at the rock cafe for the past 9 years by making open table reservations and requesting a window table. This year a credit card number is required and if don't cancel within 2 days of your reservation you may be charged $25 dollars per person as a no show. The front desk did not ask if Anyone had a reservation was just sitting people as they came rather than checking who had reservations and seating them. The couple behind us in line also had reservations and were seated near us where you could not see the rink.
I probably will not return or recommend the restaurant to my friends as a reservation means nothing at the Rock Cafe any more
Rock Center is a staple on our trips to NYC. Typically, we love it. This time, however, the service was horrible. The only attention we got was either when we ordered or when our drink/food was delivered. Additionally, the table they seated us at felt like it was an add in to the restaurant to exist only during busy times (it basically felt that we were in the middle of the walkway).
