Rock Center Cafe Ratings and Reviews
I was entertaining my 7 and 6 year old grandchildren after taking them to see The Lion King.
My 7 year old granddaughter announced, after reading the children's menu, "This is my dream menu...Penne and Lemonade"!
The waiter was particularly kind with the younger set and the outdoor ice skating view provided to be entertaining for all.
This is a pretty restaurant over looking the ice rink. it was very quiet for a Friday evening. We had a Kale salad app and it was very good. We got the Skirt steak and the red snapper fish filet special. The skirt steak was very tough and not very good it was served with Brussel sprouts and a horseradish sauce which were both excellent. The fish was really tasteless and forgettable . Overall I like the place but the food was a bust. Service was good and everyone was very friendly
Horrible experience. Everyone got their food before me. When my family was finished eating, my steak finally came out raw. Our waitress said another server "stole" it for their table. The manager made it clear that she didn't have time to deal with it or so much at apologize to us. I can't believe that a restaurant manager would be that dismissive and degrading when her restaurant made a huge mistake. She has zero business in customer service. It was beyond rude & I didn't eat dinner that night. I highly recommend dining anywhere in the city but here.
Last minute trip in the city to see the Rockefeller Center tree and local sights . Decided to dine at Rock Center Cafe next to the skating rink to see the people skating and the tree. We had a burger and the pasta with bolognese. Both were well prepared and tasty. Service was fantastic.
Great experience for the tourist and anyone looking for that special day with the family. Very romantic, and the location is impossible to beat during the Xmas holidays.
Food is good, drinks are well made and the service is what you expect from a tourist destination. Sitting next to the rink is a view most wont soon forget.
We visit Rock Center Cafe each year to enjoy the view. The food is just okay and the service is fairly good. It is a set menu during the holidays - we had the burger which took a very long time to arrive. Dessert was good. It's the view that makes us return each year. It is so nice to see the tree and enjoy a meal with your family during the holiday season.
$75 per plate for a salad and dessert was insulting to me and my family and $25 for a 6 year old, not including drinks. We were told at the counter that it was a price fixed meal and were asked if that was ok. We agreed because well, it was too late and they secured my card in advance.
The only reason to go there is location. Food was average at best.
We made reservations here about a week in advance for after our Rockettes show between Xmas and New Years. It was one of the only local spots to have a reservation at the time we wanted near the Radio City Music Hall.
When we arrived we were notified they had a mandatory Prix Fixe menu which was 25$ for children and 75$ for an Adult. When we made the reservations there was no notification of this requirement at all. I can only assume they are doing this for the holiday season and it is not normally prix fixe.
Besides it being NYC and being in Rockefeller Center these prices were quite high. I would have preferred paying the same price / more at a high end steak house. However it was too late to change our plans.
So we ordered my daughter a 25$ plate of grilled cheese and fries and two scoops of ice cream.
I ordered the short rib and my wife got the shrimp pasta dish. We both got the lobster bisque for starters. For dessert we NY cheese cake and chocolate lava cake.
The short rib was tender however it was room temperature. The pasta was not very flavorful and the chocolate lava cake was not warm and very small. The cheese cake was also small.
Overall the food was just OK and far from worth the 75$ we were forced to spend.
The ambiance was nice and had a great view of the ice rink and tree.
It’s unlike I’ll return here even with a normal menu to order from. In my opinion if you are forcing a prix fixe menu on everyone everything better be top notch and perfect. There is no room for error. Unfortunately our experience was not top notch.
We went here for lunch after seeing the Rocketttes with our two girls. We chose this place based on convenience and the location. We got there early (1pm) for our 1:30 reservation and they told us they were running 20 mins behind schedule. We were able to check in which was good because i soon found out the later you check in the longer it took to get seated. It was extremely busy and because of the cold weather I think people were staying a little longer. We were finally seated at 2pm and it was actually quite a long lunch. They had a prefix menu and the food and drinks were delicious! I think if they factored in a family of four taking 2 hours (and we did not hang around afterwards) for lunch they wouldn’t haven’t gotten so backed up. It was NYC at Christmas time on a cold day. Delays were expected but the hostess was very nice as were the servers and the food and view was terrific! Only downside was the wait.
We made reservation and requested a good view of the ice skating rink. Our table was far end of the restaurant with a view from far away. I was hoping to have a table next to the window with the ice skating rink view. The restaurant was super crowded. Because of the holiday, only menu available was the pre fixe holiday lunch. One appetizer, one entree and one dessert for $50. We added $5 for the shrimp cocktail which is a good choice. We picked pasta for our entree and chocolate soufflé for our dessert. Entree was good but the dessert was so so. My daughter found a hair on her soufflé after couple bites. That killed our appetite.
Holiday lunch menu offered multiple choices to accommodate many tastes and diets, including vegetarian. Service was attentive and friendly, and all items were prepared as requested. We were not rushed, despite the restaurant being quite crowded. Reservations during holiday season are a must. Will definitely visit again next year for holiday lunch and outstanding view of the skating rink. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.
