The view from Rock Center Cafe is unbeatable. You have an unobstructed look at the rink and plaza. It’s lovely. Our server mostly ignored us and eventually abandoned our table. It took 15 minutes before we were able to get drinks and to order. After that, we saw him once as he breezed by. Eventually, another server came over to deliver our check. No drinks refilled. No “how’s the meal?” No follow up. It was an 8:30 reservation, so maybe he was tired. But, it was frustrating to be treated like an inconvenience or after thought.
The food was good and the view was great.
Trip to NYC
It was very enjoyable experience. The efficiency of the staff was very prompt. Ithe staff was very friendly and helpful. Good experience.
Although one of New York's most frequented tourist restaurants, this native New Yorker celebrated a fabulous birthday dinner at Rock Center Cafe. Almost faultless from beginning to end. Appetizer portion could be a little bigger for $20, but the quality is there in every bite. Presentation is lovely and service was flawless.
They were prompt with our reservations and accommodating to allow our 2 separate tables to combine into one. The wait staff was fantastic and the views of the skaters on the rink were like a postcard. It was a great place to go after the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular and most importantly, it allowed my mom and aunts a great view while staying warm and in a comfortable seat with yummy food and drinks. Highly suggest this restaurant when you want to show visitors Rockefeller Center, but you know they won't last long in the cold and crowds! You are paying a bit more for the view and location, but it was well worth it for the day trip! Sad to hear it is closing in Jan!
The server was excellent but the actual arrival was VERY delayed. There 8 in our group, 4 of which were under 8 years of age. We arrived on time for our reservation and were immediately seated, but did not complete an uncomplicated meal until 12:45.
The food and service was excellent! Plus you get a great view of the ice skating rink.
Took us in early, it wasn’t crowded and we were not rushed.
In the past the food has been very good. One of the dishes had rigatoni and was very hard, not quite al dente which would have been fine. Salad with kale avocado and farro was too cold, it seemed premade and refrigerated, not freshly made this time. The shrimp was “ok”.
We hope the next time will be better.
Outstanding experience for me and my friend visiting from CO. My husband and I dine at your restaurant whenever we are in town, so I felt confident bringing someone who should experience the best of NYC.
Great service and always fun views of the skating rink!
We were seated at only table blocking view of ice skating. There was a wall between us and window to rink.
We went with our three grandchildren after the Christmas show at Radio City. The service was excellent, they originally forgot the beverages, when they were reminded the beverages were comped. They took very good care of us. The food was good, our grand children loved the burgers and fries.
Great location to enjoy a meal with my daughters who were visiting NYC.
Brought granddaughter and college friend to celebrate start of the holidays after the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular and it was perfect. Our wait staff could not have been more attentive and the atmosphere and food divine.
Beautiful table near the window watching the skaters make their rounds. The holidays have begun—even though we have yet to enjoy Thanksgiving!
Had a lovely meal at the Rock Centre Café, was a very busy Saturday on a holiday weekend so there was quite a wait for the food, having said that we were offered more bread and were entertained watching the skaters on the ice rink. The noise level was also very loud but this had to be expected on this very busy service.
Loud, mediocre food at best and extraordinarily overpriced. The kid's meal is $28! For chicken tenders, fries and desert. Adult meals were crazy expensive and not worth the time or energy. Clearly a restaurant that take advantage of the tourist element. Not worth the view of the skaters at Rock Center. Avoid!
I had made a reservation for four people about 10 days before. I’m glad I did because the restaurant was packed. But we were seated for 2 PM with no problem. The waitress was nice and prompt. The food was very good. But it was noisy. The
ladies room was immaculate.
Seeing The ice skaters at the Rockefeller rink was an added plus.
Started with a dirty dinner roll plate and a sticky table. Waiter forgot my sons drink.
Food took 40 minutes to arrive. Food was well prepared. No check ins by waiter despite it not being particularly busy. Just ho-hum in a great location to watch skaters.
The ambiance next to the ice rink was lovely. The food was average considering what great food is available in NYC. Our only complaint was the terrible service and it was terrible. Had to ask for everything 3 times from a menu to taking an order to bread. We visit NYC often and never have I complained about restaurant service before this review We loved the 5 star ambiance but bad service was 1 star
Great food, service and atmosphere! Our server was so attentive and friendly.
Food was spot on and service was excellent
A good place to go to get a good meal with great service while watching the skaters.
This is my second time there and it won't be my last.
It is awful that this iconic restaurant will close in 2020. Shame on the Tisch family for destroying what is a famous New York eatery, laying off over 100 people in the process. Our wonderful waiter, who has worked here for 14/years, told us the rumors are that a Shake Shack and/or a food court will move into this ground floor location. What an abomination! Rockefeller center, one if the most famous buildings in the world, renown for its Art Deco design deserves respect. And certainly more than chain food court eateries. The Rock center cafe has been our go to place to dine in New York over the years. Good food, reasonably priced, great service, and a lovely setting overlooking the famous ice skating rink. At Christmas it is especially beautiful. Sad to think it will be gone. Shame on the Tisch family. Don’t they have enough money?
It was fine. Very expensive place sort of understandably.
Great service and atmosphere. Food was ok
I had a wonderful dinner at the Rock Center Cafe. The service was great, the pasta with lamb was fantastic and the ice cream was unbelievable. It was an overall great time. I did not feel rushed or pressured to leave, even though I had a table next to the ice rink. I will absolutely be back
Food is very average and the price is too high for the quality offered.
Interior in serious need of refurbishment. Only tables for 2 next to windows, which is unfortunate for families with small children.
The place is nice and Michael is very efficient!!!
Great views!!! Exceptional service!
It is a nice and quiet place with a limited but tasteful menu. We like it for special occasions given the location and a menu that can be expensive. Service is fine and view to the snow skating court is really nice.
Wow--my cousin recommended this cafe. They were Ice skating and even had to run the Zamboni machine to re-finish the ice. The skaters were pleasant to watch. The food was excellent. I noticed the table vibrating just like a buzzer going off. Our waitress said well you have 3 subways running just below you..! Pure NYC. The lamb dish was superb, and my wife had the best shrimp we had ever tasted...
This is a must if you are in Midtown or near Rockefeller center. Top Notch restaurant..!
We went here the night before our wedding in Central Park , 13 of us with 7 kids in our party , it was perfect and iconic , service was amazing and we were seated with a full view of the ice rink watching the skaters 😉 just what we wanted , mostly had burgers , would definitely book again 😊
We had a wonderful dining experience. The food and service were excellent. We have so many great memories dining at Rock Center Cafe and the Sea Grill, we have been coming here for so many years. We are so sad that they are closing at the end of the year.
So disappointed. The place was empty and yet service was extremely slow. Our food was delivered by a rather unhappy server as we were still waiting for coffee and drinks! The banana cakes were dry and muffin like and I was hard pressed to find a banana. There was NO sugar free syrup and toast with eggs was extra! The view of the ice rink was fun but our plates were whisked away from us before our forks were put down. We were so disappointed and will not be returning.
I can’t believe we’ve never been here as it was an awesome experience! I’m so sad to hear that it will be closing it’s doors in January. Such a shame. We went for breakfast and it was a wonderful way to experience the iconic Rockefeller Plaza Skating Rink while having a delicious bite to start off our day. It felt iconic and again I’m so sad that we won’t be able to make this a part of our trip next time. Our server was wonderful and the food was delicious! Classy and overall fantastic experience that I’m thankful we got to have before it was too late.
Good food, good service
Yes but only as i suspect it was a poor day for us, it was raining heavily and inside was freezing, could do with warming the place up, especially as it was forecast for rain and wind. Ice rink was shut too.
i think the head waiter was great, other could crack a smile though. Pasta was a little chewy and a NewYork cheese cake with a soft soggy sponge base???? What's that about. We mske better in the uk, crisp biscuit crumbly bottom.
Food was average at best. There was a terrible smell through out the dining room. Musty and a little sewer like.
