Rock Bottom Brewery Restaurant - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Our service was horrible !!! Our waitress was rarely seen....we usually had to flag down someone else to ask for basic service then our waitress would appear .... She may be the exception ....the other served seemed attentive abs energetic....ours sucked....so we spoke with the only toll we had asset trying to discuss it with the manager who seemed to busy, by leaving no tip...paid cash exactly to the penny....hope she gets the message
I chose this place for a co-worker "drinks and get to know each other". We were seated quickly, the service was good, the food was good and the drinks were as well. No complaints here. I might add that I appreciate the ease of making a reservation for 10. That was the tie breaker between which place to choose and you guys won simply because it was easy to make a reservation. Will definitely be back in the future.
Have eaten here many, many times. Menu is varied and can handle a wide range of family desires. Wait staff service can be so-so, as was the case for Sunday lunch this weekend. Other times, service has been fine.
One challenge is that you have to watch your bill. I've frequently received e-mailed two-for-one specials, %off options. For Sundays in football season, bloody marys, for example, are listed as $5 for anyone in the bar (no coupons needed). I was charged the usual price of $9.99 instead. In all cases, I've been able to iron out the bill easily, but it wouldn't have happened without my checking. So, food is good, but keep track of your bill.
We visited both Thursday night and Saturday night and service was awesome both nights, but especially good on Saturday night (Katie was our service I believe!). We visit Rock Bottom Brewery every time we come to Chicago and will be back in January. It is quite loud but its great to watch sporting events, taste or drink beer, and the food is great!
Disappointed. Pre- marathon tradition usually excellent food. It was very subpar. Pretzels were hard as rocks. Chicken Mac was dry, not creamy at all. Chicken sandwich was rubbery. We will be creating a new tradition somewhere else from here on out. Will not go back & wouldn’t recommend it.
First time Danicola has waited on us here, the service was great. Beverages stayed full. Away checking on us, but not obnoxiously over doing it.
The menu has a lot of options. I always enjoy the food here.
Yes, it is a little noise, but this is a sports bar on a Saturday night. Having lots of TV on baseball and all the college football gsmes.
I had some people visiting from out of town and was really excited to bring them to Rock Bottom because I used to work for the Lombard location and have always loved their food. Our server Greg was the least personable person I've ever met and seemed to have no patience for our questions. He walked away twice while taking our order and kept looking over his shoulder like we were taking up too much of his time. I understand he was busy but we had questions on the menu and we were his table as well. He wasn't the one who dropped off our food and didn't check in on us until he dropped the check. We had needed refills, mayo and bbq sauce but never received it because he never checked in on us. I was mostly embarrassed to have brought people here because I had been raving about how great RB is, well at least the Lombard location is always a solid choice. When he did finally come for the check he just apologized saying he had other tables and they needed split checks and he was really busy. Again, I understand being busy but he hasn't really attended to us anyway so it would have been nice to not have to wait an additional ten minutes just to leave because we couldn't pay. The food is always great, thankfully, but will definitely not be returning to this location.
When searching Google for "rooftop restaurants," Rock Bottom Brewery came up. We were on a girls trip and planned to visit this place. Come to find out, it was within a block of our hotel and the plan was even more perfect. Unfortunately, once we arrived on time for our Open Table reservation, we found out that the rooftop seating did not apply to our Open Table reservation as the rooftop is first come first serve. We noted in our "Special Requests" option on the Open Table app that we would like rooftop seating. There was an option to choose that allowed contact between me and the restaurant, but I did not receive anything stating that the rooftop accommodations could not be made. Thankfully we were able to get a table within minutes because a table was leaving. The service was good, but I feel they may have been a little under staffed. We waited a little longer than normal to be waited on, so by the time we were asked for our drink order, we had our whole meal order ready. It also took longer than normal to receive our checks and then to receive our cards/money back. Overall though, we realized the server was very busy and the setting and food made up for any waiting. We will be back and we will recommend!
I made a reservation for 7:30 for a bachelorette party of 8 people. We arrived early and the hostess said she would get us when it was 7:30. In the meantime, she said we could head over to either side to hang out by the bar. So, we went to the left bar and were told we could sit at a table while we waited. 7:30 came and went and we still hadn't been called. A server came by and we asked about it. He said the hostess assumed we were staying at the table we were at and gave away our reservation. We were then told the hostess was working on getting our table ASAP. After a while longer I went up and spoke to the manager. He said he was getting us a table. He asked if we wanted a low table or if we wanted to stay at the high table we were at. I said we want a low table. He finally gave us a HIGH table on the other side of the restaurant. We would have just stayed where we were had we known we were getting the same, if not a worse, table on the opposite side. We were finally seated close to 7:45/8. We ordered drinks. The waitress brought everyone's drink except mine. In maybe a 15 minute span she came by twice and told me my drink would be right out. In that time, the Bride in our group had ordered a second drink and received it before I ever got mine. We had to wait about the same amount of time for a pitcher of water. We also said we were ready to order at one point, instead she took another drink order and left so we had to wait even longer to order. After ordering we waited quite a long time for the food and realized that we needed to be at our next destination very soon (per reservations. If we didn't make it I was going to get charged $300). Our food came and my order of mac n cheese was cold and the chicken was not fully cooked. I did mention this to the server and she said she'd take it off the bill. We were able to eat quickly and she split our bills and we got out on time. Overall, I wasn't happy with our visit.
Hello. My husband and I came to the resturant last Saturday for lunch. We had great food and drinks. But we sat at the table for 15-20min before anyone served us. It was NOT busy as at and there were a lot of wait staff. We also waited a while for or bill and second round of drinks. But I've been to this place many times and I've always enjoyed it, it just seems the wait staff could be a little more attentive to their tables. Thank you
It was our first time at Rock Bottom and we had a great experience. Our server Greg was super nice and took out time from his day to have full conversations with us, not just bring us food. He even offered us free samples of their house made beer to try. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very comfortable and fun! Definitely will go back again!
If you make a reservation online for a table of 8, please don't wait till the guests arrive there to let them know they will be sitting separate in booths:|
On a good note, the bartenders upstairs on the rooftop we're nice and attentive.
Great for predictably consistant no-frills bar fare with good beer in a super convenient location. Had a reservation for 4 at 5pm on a beautiful Saturday evening in June. We showed up on time and were seated immediately. I was surprised at how empty the restaurant was (had been here several times before when it was packed). Menu was typical bar fare. Our party ordered a burger, a pizza and enchiladas. It was all served promptly. The food was nothing remarkable (expected) although the onion rings were better than most. The beer was good. Our server was courteous and responsive. We were seated in a section which had a lot of TV's (would be great for a game). Overall, I wouldn't expect anyone to be blown away by the food here, but that is not the point of this place- it is straight up bar food at a fare price, and it's location (about 10 feet from the Grand Ave Red Line station) can be helpful if you are on a tight schedule.
We thought this would be a nice place to have a casual dinner with our kids. The hostess was very nice, she sat us at a booth. We waited at least 15 minutes for our waiter to acknowledge us. When he finally graced us with his presence, he definitely would have rather been 100 other places. We realized that his friends were in a booth near us and we were obviously interrupting his social hour. We sat waiting and waiting for refills on drinks while he socialized. As for the food, my chicken was underdone. The guacamole was very good though and so were the mini tacos. Maybe you'd have better luck with any server other than James!!!
Was really excited about trying something different and expected this restaurant to be a good venue for something out of the ordinary but not extravagent. Menu seemed more like a Chili's but downtown Chicago prices. Also they sat us right next to a station where they print & run the bills and the whole time we were there the waiters and waitresses stood around talking the whole time we were dining and it was quite hard to even focus on our conversation. Beer list was pretty good amd the burger I had was quite nice but the salmon my wife had was way overdone.
