Rock Bottom Brewery Restaurant - Boston Ratings and Reviews
Upon arriving at 658 for a 645 reservation we wrre told our table wass given away because we were more than 15 minutes late. So they definitely have math problems. We were late thats fine, I get it but don't make stuff up. Service was scarce, we waited a while for our drinks, friend got a sampler but no follow up as to if she decided on a specific craft. Waitress came to table after we were served to check but did not come back until we were finished. Overall a poor experience. This was our first visit and will be our last even though the food was good. The craft beers aren't anything you can't buy in a store or a better restaraunt/brewery in say, Salem MA.
Sometimes a name says it all and if you want a "Rock Bottom" experience this is the place for you. The service was as poor , the food marginal and that is being kind.
The knowledge of the waitress of the menu was non-existent. we ordered drinks fairly quickly, though apparently they have no ginger ale but have sierra mist. Not sure how a full service bar functions without ginger ale. I ordered iced tea when it arrive it was a glass of tea no ice.
While she was there we put our order in. She indicated bring ice for tea. Ordered fried pickles, she said they do not serve them, had to point out to her the item on the menu. Next asked if onion rings were made onsite, got a yes. Ordered the "made to order" guacamole, asked to have it spicy, got a blank stare from waitress.
After taking order she disappeared for 30 minutes only returning to indicate the fried pickles were not available, no guacamole no ice. When asked were the app was we got quick response "the kitchen was busy, and poof she was gone".
Another 15 minutes then everything shows up, well except ice and utensils to eat. Onion rings were frozen. The guacamole was bland and the consistency of paste.
Now another 10 minutes still no utensils, finally go inside assuming could get utensils at the hostess station. Nope, apparently the utensil's are kept in a safe as it took another 5 minutes to get utensils as one of the staff disappeared into the back of the restaurant.
20 more minutes and the finally after finishing the meal waitress shows up with a glass of ice. We request the bill.
15 more minutes pass and no sign of waitress. Had to go inside to request the bill be sent to table so we are not late for show. another 5 minutes waitress shows up, no bill ......
I brought my family here before a show at the Opera House because we didn't want anything overly fancy. This was one of the only places we could get in by the time we thought to make reservations. Our server was great, and very attentive. The food, however, was mostly lousy. We did enjoy the pretzel appetizer, and the beer was pretty good. My daughter's salad was very good. Fish tacos weren't so good. There was very little fish on them, and it was overcooked and overly fishy tasting. Chicken fajitas were ok. The guacamole was awful. It had clearly been scooped ahead into little
serving cups, and was all brown on the surface. It had no taste really at all. My 11 year old son had a burger. He LOVES burgers, but he wouldn't eat it. So, I took a bite thinking he was being picky (despite not really enjoying my own meal, because I figured...how bad could a burger be?), and it was truly awful. It was over-ground mushy meat, and seemed to have been set on fire. The outside was charred black, and just tasted awful. I will say, we asked for it medium, and somehow it was still pink in the middle. I would go back for a drink and the pretzels maybe, but would never eat a meal there again.
Food was very good and the service was on point. The waiter was very attentive amd would come by before I could even look around for her to ask for something. The food was well seasoned and cooked I had no complaints. Oh and by the way... I fell in love with the southwest eggroll appetizer it was amazing...
I'd definitely go back to Rock Bottom! My friend and I met here before we attended a show at The Wilbur, and the location couldn't have been more convenient. Our server was very friendly and attentive, and the drinks are a great value, especially for their own brews. The food is decently portioned and reasonable, with lots of different options. This menu truly has "something for everyone". They also list calories on their menu which I love, as I track mine daily. The fireman's burger was delicious and not as spicy as it sounds (at least for me). I think this may be my new go to when heading to the Theater District!
The food was good, I ordered a salad with steak, and dressing on the side, however, it came with dressing on it, and dressing on the side, and they were two different dressings. The dressing on the salad was not what I ordered, but still very good. The services was excellent, and the waiter very nice.
The restaurant was overbooked which meant we had to wait to be seated even though we had a reservation made weeks in advance. We waited for over a half an hour for our food and nevertheless my salmon was severely undercooked / not cooked at all. I immediately notified our waitstaff and he took and it back and promised the manger in duty would come speak to me which they never did. Disappointed given the options for dining in the theatre district area.
We made reservations for 5:45 as we had a show across the street at 8:00. Showed up at 5:30 and were told that we would be seated closer to our reservation time. No problem with that at all. Come 6:00 I check back with the hostess and was told we would be seated in a few minutes. It wasn't until 6:30 that we were seated and our server took an additional 10 minutes to greet us and get a drink order nevermind order food. We had to rush through our food by the time it arrived to make the show on time. We should have had plenty of time given the original reservation time of 5:45.
I understand that it was dinner rush on a Saturday but what is the point of accepting reservations if you won't honor them? We also started noticing that people coming in after us without reservations were being sat outside. We were not offered the option of sitting outside for more immediate seating. It wasn't until we asked that we learned that was the case. If you have an outdoor table available, why wouldn't you offer it to those with standing reservations first? If they choose to wait for an indoor seat, then offer it to others on first come first serve basis. It just doesn't make sense and seemed very inefficient. We like coming here for drinks and apps before a show as it is convenient but this experience would make me think twice about coming back.
My best friend and I had a blast coming here. This was our second time. I reserved a spot when we came originally to see Rent with her daughter and we loved everything. This time was really no different. We were seated right away, almost in the same seats. We got, I believe the same meals which were great. We ordered alcoholic drinks this time which were superb. We ordered the mtn brownie but forgot it came with raspberry sauce (we asked for it without that our first time) so it was a little too sweet. Other than that, great experience.
So mixed on this review. We'll start with the OpenTable connection -- we were seeing a show nearby so I checked OpenTable for a nearby place to eat dinner afterwards and Rock Bottom came up. We used to come here now and then (and the one in Braintree, RIP) and liked it so figured it was a good chance to try it again. Made a 6PM reservation, arrived at 5:55 to a packed foyer and were seated in about 5 minutes at a nice outside table. To get to the end of the story before discussing the meal, they marked us as a No Show on OT, so we had to call the restaurant and contact OT to get our points.
Friendly server comes over quickly, tells us they are out of "Sam Summer, Lemons, that chicken app, most beers, and knives, but we'll get you knives in time for your food". Turned out they were also out of ketchup.
My burger was overcooked, wife's salad was fine, and the prices are ok, but really: 6PM on a Saturday and you're out of all that? There's a 24 hour store 100 feet away, send someone over for ketchup and lemons at least!
Thank god we made a reservation. The place was packed. We were seated right away but the table was less than convenient. It was very busy in the restaurant, drinks took a while and food longer! they ran out of turkey burgers but did not tell us until they got some from "next door". First time there, overall, less than satisfied.
We (me my wife and boys 13 and 14) were staying at the Marriott in the theater district ... lots of restaurant choices ... we pushed the boat out the prior evening with something special whilst the boys had pizza so this was a night out with the boys. Great menu, super service, great beer selection and live sports ... what more????
This was my second visit here & the food was delicious! The server over complicated some things & seemed to be a bit overwhelmed with our large party. But overall, service was great. We were seated quickly, the food took a bout 30 minutes to arrive (same as last time) so if you are in a rush to be somewhere afterwards, be sure to plan accordingly!
