Robert Ratings and Reviews
BAD. Very tourist trappy. You know those restaurants in touristy areas with great views and terrible food and service? Ya. This is one of those. SKIP. It's NY. We have way better options. The food was truly bad. We had to beg for salt and pepper. I say beg because our waiter was an endangered species for most of our meal. It took a full 30 minutes (after asking, which was an olympic event in itself) to get the check. Nice view. Nice decor. Food is second rate. Service is terrible.
We understand that not everyone can be seated by the windows, but with other better tables available, we were seated by a noisy large party. Was this an inexperienced host person? After our waiter went off duty we were forgotten.
Living in the neighborhood, we had hoped to add this to our list of regular places, but alas.
We arrived on time for our reservation and were sat right away. The table was a corner window view - perfect for a date- private. Live piano music, fresh flowers on the table, friendly staff, prompt service. We had a prefixe menu that evening for valentines. Filet mignon and lobster was everything you would want- perfectly cooked - perfectly seasoned - perfectly paired with sides. My husband and I are pretty causal but we come here for most every special occasion. The dessert is beyond - almost life changing. It’s expensive and worth it. See you next time Robert.
We were 8 for a special occasion on a Sunday brunch. The service was outstanding, from the hostess to the waiters and busboys. The view is great over Columbus Circle (our table was not close to a window, yet we could still enjoy partial views and the feel of openness and brightness) The decor fits the theme of the museum and feels like a good fit. The food was very good and the desserts were excellent. I had the strawberry napoleon which was a very sophisticated take on the classic with a puff pastry dough perfectly crunchy and light. Overall, the entire party enjoyed the place tremendously.
We were very excited to get a table for brunch - even though we booked it only 2 days in advance. Our Sunday brunch reservation was for 11:15am and when we walked in the restaurant was maybe 20% full - with tables available by the window overlooking Columbus Circle. Instead, we were shoved into a corner table with a column up against us as the rest of the restaurant sat basically empty. The service was awful. My nephew asked what kind of coffees were available - he was told regular and decaf (really?). Our orders arrived but we were missing a side of chicken sausage, a cranberry juice and my latte came regular instead of skim. Remember: the place was basically empty. Talk about having the "C" staff - but for Sunday brunch? The views might be wonderful but the hostess would rather leave them open. And the food is good but the subpar service made the experience memorable for all the wrong reasons.
My wife and I enjoyed our dinner at Robert very much. It was my wife's birthday and we both had a lovely time. Great food, scenic view overlooking Columbus Circle and excellent service. I would highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions and Saturday night dinner.
Robert is a very attractive, stylish restaurant with a beautiful view of Columbus Circle and Central Park. They also have live music. We've had many very good meals there but the last couple of times, I think the food wasn't as good. My rack of lamb was overdone. Fortunately, they were happy to redo it. The accompanying sides were not hot and not up to par. I'm hoping this was unusual and that things return to the way they were.
Recently dined at ROBERT before an opera at the nearby Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center. Was thoroughly impressed with the ambiance, service, and food selection. This is definitely a "quality over quantity" type location. As suggested by several reviewers, I requested a window seat when making my reservation and while I was not granted the best of the best window seat, half of my party had a great view of the Central Park entrance right off Columbus Circle. My dining partners ordered a Manhattan and The Isabel and both loved them. The entrees were perfect, and I was even able to order two halves, since I was torn between two pasta dishes. A nice touch was the waiter asking if anyone in our party had food allergies.
Food was fabulous. Seating at the window is the best location. Crowd was not too loud. Only concern was the waiter was slow and challenged my food request instead of placing the order I asked for, which was to simply bring vegetables to the table before my main meal. The elderberry champagne was lovely. I would definitely dine here again.
Hostess not only honored my window seat request but offered me 2 possibilities. Great professional, friendly, helpful server. Good rolls. Good wine. Salmon burgers plentiful. Server arranged to have "Happy Birthday Janice" written on a plate with 2 delicious petite fours making the birthday lunch extra special.
Went primarily for the View but pleasantly surprised by the food and service.
Experience has shown me that some times location and quality don't always combine.
Happy to say that Robert provided both. While I would recommend making reservations way ahead of time if you want a window seat (definitely much better than any other seat in the house) the atmosphere and seating in the rest of the restaurant is nice as well. We sat in the "lounge" and were more than comfortable for two.
The mussels app was tasty with just the right amount of kick and the Scallop and Lamb entrees were both presented well and tasted great. I was also happy with the portions, 4 nice sized Scallops and 6 well cooked (medium on rare side) chops.
Out Waiter was attentive and knowledgeable but, not overly hovering and the support staff was there to clear, fill and clean as appropriate.
Over all a 4 Star experience. Don't look to compare it to NYC's bests but if you're looking for a VERY GOOD dinner in a unique setting with a wonderful view, Robert fits the bill.
And if possible, I do recommend trying to get a direct window seat, it will definitely make the experience that much more enjoyable.
A special place for special occasions or just for going out. People come for the views, which are striking, but the food is about as good and the warmth and intelligence of the staff is equal ton anyplace in the City. Given the stylish ambiance and the special location overlooking the Park, Broadway and Columbus Circle, the prices are quite moderate.
If you're lucky enough to get even close to a window, the view up B'way at night, or into Central Park and over Columbus Circle are what would bring me back there even if food and service were not as good as they are. I bring visiting friends and relatives often.
The Management and Staff at Robert's are outstanding. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. Special Shout-Out to Restaurant Manager & Banquet Director Richard for the fabulous window table and arranging VIP treatment.
This was a business luncheon and our client was impressed. Thank you everyone at Robert's for a job well done!
This was our third time at Robert. It was our anniversary and I requested a window seat a week in advance. We technically got a window seat but we were sitting at right angles to each other and I was staring at myself in a wall mirror - window was to my left. Not a big deal... we simply moved to the lounge area but they should not offer that table. It is quite disturbing to stare at yourself all through a dinner. Service was great as usual. Food was good but not memorable. For NYC the prices are quite reasonable. The view and the price makes this a good value and a solid place to take a date.
