Robba da Matti (Yaletown) Ratings and Reviews
Was there for dinner after some serious pasta cravings. Unfortunately only the bruschetta was edible. The pasta dishes were under cooked, hard to chew, and sauce was too salty for all three entrees we ordered. Ended up eating on only the mussels from spaghetti allo scoglio. Quite disappointed as the reviews appear to be good, and they even had a full house when we walked in. The server was friendly (except he didnt bring us any bread.. given on a busy night?), and ambiance on the patio was great. Too bad the food didnt live up our expectations.
It was the oddest service we have ever have. To the gal's credit, I think she was very new to Canada and her English was sketchy at best. We asked for coffee. Just simple plan coffee. She brought us the drinks menu. We said, "No, just coffee." She said "oh, okay, coffee." Then promptly forgot about it. When our meals arrived, we inquired about the coffee. "Oh, you want coffee." and she walked away. Then she came back with the drinks menu. "Which coffee?" I gave up and said "Americano". So away she went, came back with the Americano. We asked for milk, because really...we wanted just coffee, but Americano was more easily understood apparently. We were told we couldn't have milk because we ordered an Americano. "No milk, it's Americano". I'm thinking if a guest wants to add milk to their Americano, then it should be their prerogative to do so. There were other minor issues (water not refilled and glasses simply removed, dessert menus not offered; we had to ask for them) We asked for the bill. She said "okay, the bill". Then promptly sat down at a table to eat her staff meal. It was actually becoming quite comical; like a skit from a sitcom show. We asked again for the bill and were very relieved that someone else took our payment. The food was good, we've been several times before and will likely go again. It was just the oddest service (though I understand she was trying, just not quite getting the grasp of it).
We went for the $99 date night special and it was great! The lobster ravioli was especially delicious, and portions were generous. We had tiramisu (recommended by the server) and it was great as well! The vibe and food felt similar to eating in a piazza in Italy. We will be back for sure :)
This was perfect for a special date night, we went with the $99 date menu for a week night, and it was very special. As it is a small and cozy restaurant, the only downside was that it was noisy when full. The food was delicious, solid and authentic homemade food and the service warm and friendly. We will definitely visit again!!
One of our pasta dishes was so undercooked, you couldn’t eat it, it tasted hard and raw still, and the “chef” said it was al dente - they argued with me and my gf (The other pasta dish we ordered was cooked well). The chef and sever maintained they were right, and we were wrong.
They asked us if we wanted to order something else, we said yes, only to be told that the kitchen was closed. When we left 5 mins later, all the staff were sitting down eating freshly cooked food.
Worst experience ever in Yaletown. We will never ever go back.
Staff and chef first, customers second at this place.
The food was disappointing, given that the venue seemed cozy and was very busy. One of our party ordered pasta carbonara. You'd imagine this would be a simple dish to get right but the pasta was still crunchy, not even 'al dente', and it seemed that it had either absorbed all the sauce or had no sauce at all. When the dish was sent back, the waiter returned with the message from the chef that she stood by her dish and that 'this is how ot's prepeared in Italy. Nonsense, since I've eaten the dish in several Italian cities and it has always been creamy and delicious. This one was none of them those things. A risotto was then ordered as a replacement and came swimming in a soup-like sauce (clearly the chef having a childish dig) with the rice way overcooked. The dish was super-salty and altogether inedible. It was sent back uneaten. The restaurant refused to comp both dishes and only comped the 'carbonara' dish. In spite of the pathetic food, the server was really nice and very efficient. I wouldn't recommend this family-owned restaurant to anyone who wants real Italian. The 'chef' was arrogant and dismissive and clearly an amateur. Avoid this place if you like good food.
The price of the date night special has gone up considerably from the original price which is still on the website. The higher price is no longer a bargain. Our server agreed to honour the website price but when the bill came, someone else had not only charged us the higher price, he had charged for 3 desserts instead of 2. The mistake was taken care of but it is definitely worth checking the bill before you pay.
L'Antipasto is a great option for those looking for genuine Italian cuisine. The fact that they make their own pasta gives an unbelievable flavor to the dishes, not to mention the freshness of the ingredients. All of the staff is really polite, and they make you feel really comfortable. I completely recommend this restaurant.
Thanks L'Antipasto !
Everything was delicious - we ordered the bruschetta appetizer, the pasta with bacon and the seafood pasta with tomato sauce, the tiramisu and the crème brûlée. The service was great- we loved our server Laura - she made great suggestions for food and wine. The food was really authentic. We loved our experience and we will definitely be back in the future.
Clams were excellent, they charge for bread (very European) but in my opinion cheep. Burrata was very nice but too cold so the interior did not spill out like it should, and usually you serve the complete cheese not three slices. Olive oil could have been more complex. Pasta texture was excellent but they did not salt the water enough. One staff member was painful to watch work, and had to ask for crushed pepper. My first visit to Vancouver, there may be better but I still left smiling. It is obvious they know thier food, take it up a notch then it would be a 10/10 ! Love the terasse!
Enjoyed the burrata and prosciutto although the consistency of the burrata was a bit unusual. The homemade pasta dishes we ordered were both very good. I had a tagliatelle with meat sauce that was wonderful while my husband ordered spaghetti alla carbonara. The restaurant interior was a but small and stuffy was we opted to eat outside. I would definitely come here again for a casual Italian meal.
The food was good and a good place to get your pasta/Italian wine fix. We sat inside on a warm day and with their open kitchen, I cannot stop sweating. I decided to deal with it and enjoy the food. However, the service was slow, when we were finished with our drinks the waitress never came around to ask if we wanted more, otherwise we would have each ordered probably two more drinks (maybe most people just order bottle wines there so they don't have to go back often, but we were drinking beers). Then when we decided to leave we had to ask for our check 3 times.
