Robba da Matti (Yaletown) Ratings and Reviews
Great Italian food, on the light side. Fun place in that main dining area and kitchen are in same large room, and cooking is visible from most tables. (Also a patio outside.) Good wine list. Very attentive and informed staff. In middle of Yaletown, so parking isn't easy. Moderate prices, so very good value.
Food has been disappointing. I absolutely love Italian food and this place has about the worst. First time here, two friends in our group found the pasta too al dente (it was quite crunchy), second time was just okay. Unfortunately, gave it another try here and food was very bland. Also, we were seated almost underneath one gas heater and beside another. Ended up having heat blasted on our faces and sweating throughout dinner. Horrible dining experience.
The restaurant didn't realize the outside temperature was much warmer than previous days and would not adjust the heaters. We all will never, ever again come to this restaurant. There are so many other better Italian restaurants in Yaletown.
I was told the food was great so I went and didn’t disappoint. Servers mom was cooking so I told her to bring me whatever she thought was great. Ravioli, tomatoes, Boccaccini cheese salad, wine. Grappa. Satisfying and delicious. Sit outside with the fire torches. It’s wonderful.
I grew up in Italy eating authentic, beautiful ingredients, and have tried many, many Italian restaurants in Vancouver. This is by far the best, most authentic Italian food you can find! Home made pasta with the perfect al dente texture, and melt-in-your-mouth burrata fresh mozzarella flown in from Italy were absolute hightlights. Thank you to Christina, the Chef, for a memorable evening of eating some of the best food I've had in years!
Was there for dinner after some serious pasta cravings. Unfortunately only the bruschetta was edible. The pasta dishes were under cooked, hard to chew, and sauce was too salty for all three entrees we ordered. Ended up eating on only the mussels from spaghetti allo scoglio. Quite disappointed as the reviews appear to be good, and they even had a full house when we walked in. The server was friendly (except he didnt bring us any bread.. given on a busy night?), and ambiance on the patio was great. Too bad the food didnt live up our expectations.
It was the oddest service we have ever have. To the gal's credit, I think she was very new to Canada and her English was sketchy at best. We asked for coffee. Just simple plan coffee. She brought us the drinks menu. We said, "No, just coffee." She said "oh, okay, coffee." Then promptly forgot about it. When our meals arrived, we inquired about the coffee. "Oh, you want coffee." and she walked away. Then she came back with the drinks menu. "Which coffee?" I gave up and said "Americano". So away she went, came back with the Americano. We asked for milk, because really...we wanted just coffee, but Americano was more easily understood apparently. We were told we couldn't have milk because we ordered an Americano. "No milk, it's Americano". I'm thinking if a guest wants to add milk to their Americano, then it should be their prerogative to do so. There were other minor issues (water not refilled and glasses simply removed, dessert menus not offered; we had to ask for them) We asked for the bill. She said "okay, the bill". Then promptly sat down at a table to eat her staff meal. It was actually becoming quite comical; like a skit from a sitcom show. We asked again for the bill and were very relieved that someone else took our payment. The food was good, we've been several times before and will likely go again. It was just the oddest service (though I understand she was trying, just not quite getting the grasp of it).
We went for the $99 date night special and it was great! The lobster ravioli was especially delicious, and portions were generous. We had tiramisu (recommended by the server) and it was great as well! The vibe and food felt similar to eating in a piazza in Italy. We will be back for sure :)
This was perfect for a special date night, we went with the $99 date menu for a week night, and it was very special. As it is a small and cozy restaurant, the only downside was that it was noisy when full. The food was delicious, solid and authentic homemade food and the service warm and friendly. We will definitely visit again!!
One of our pasta dishes was so undercooked, you couldn’t eat it, it tasted hard and raw still, and the “chef” said it was al dente - they argued with me and my gf (The other pasta dish we ordered was cooked well). The chef and sever maintained they were right, and we were wrong.
They asked us if we wanted to order something else, we said yes, only to be told that the kitchen was closed. When we left 5 mins later, all the staff were sitting down eating freshly cooked food.
Worst experience ever in Yaletown. We will never ever go back.
Staff and chef first, customers second at this place.
