Very beautiful, nice place. Great food, happy with service too
Great fresh Japanese cuisine well executed in the Robotaya style. Giant prawns were priced differently on menu versus on my check. When I called this out to our server he spoke with manager and said they were sorry but that’s the price. I consider that poor customer service. It’s a shame as it was otherwise a nice restaurant.
Food was small portions but very good. Would recommend for anyone that enjoys authentic Japanese food. They don’t serve many sushi rolls which was unfortunate but the apps were delicious!!
Good experience
Disappointed in this restaurant. Went on recommendation of a friend, but found food to be bland and unexciting. Was not able to sit at counter since it was booked, though had requested it. Had 'signature' rice dish with mushrooms and it turned out to be just a sticky pot with steamed mushrooms on top -- no taste at all. Dishes were poorly timed so ended up waiting a long time in between. We were new to this restaurant, but they did not seem interested in having repeat customers-- not special experience.
Food was good but dishes were too small for the price. Especially the grilled vegetables
Extremely overpriced. Tiny portions Spent $500 and went out starving
Service abominable I would never recommend this restaurant and was very disappointed. Just not worth it
Great Fish Grill... Everything was great and fresh. Great place to try something new... You may ask, "You can eat that!?" But when you do it's ambrosia (Not the Fruit Salad).
Pricey, but wonderful. Treat yo self.
incredible Japanese restaurant. I highly recommend to taste the vegetables - it's amazing and unusual! Thanks I had a great dinner
A combination of the incredible staff and the amazing food made us forget that we weren't actually back in Tokyo.
Horrible service. We had to ask for our food. They didn't have three of the dishes we asked for and didn't let us know until
20 minutes after we ordered. They didn't seem to care about the length of time waiting or any of our comments. Do not go. Horrible.
Very expensive for average food. The portions are incredibly small for entree-priced items.
Felt like I was in Japan as soon as we walked inside. Beautiful decor and traditional preparations. Loved the grilled fish and the robata. Recommend both the vegetable sampler (we had asparagus, shishito, and shiitake) and the meat sampler. Scallops were gorgeous in the presentation, but disappointing on taste. Good selection of sake.
The place provides decent food. The portion is small so it is likely you will get to try all kinds of offerings. The waiters are friendly and courteous.
The food was outstanding and the restaurant itself reminded my husbamd and I of being in Japan. Note that the portions are small.
Went here to celebrate my birthday with my family. Great food. Reasonable price. Must try their seafood chawanmushi. Best one I've ever tasted.
Our family of 7 went for dinner while in NY. We had a lovely table and great service. Dinner was very authentically Japanese. Small portions. Delicious umami flavors. Beautiful spare presentation.
This restaurant is a shadow of its former self. Our waiter was confused about the contents of the specials and my main course arrived before the appetizer. The food used to be great but now its just okay.
Been here a few times for birthdays and loved it each time. Will definitely be back.
Never fails to disappoint. Best restaurant in the city hands down.
A bit pricey but food was absolutely delicious! And such a peaceful atmosphere too!
Great food, amazing Saké
Authentic Japanese food. Everything was excellent!
i came on the 1st of January with 5 friends from France,we have waited 50 min to get the order, almost all of what we ordered was not available anymore.....i know this happens, especially after new year eve....but nobody told us when we got the menu,so we had tyo change our mind in 2 minutes
and it was just freezing inside....i had dinner with my jacket...table next to me,the girl had a hat on her head....
the food was amazing but the rest was horrible, and one of my friend got sick after....as we stayed almost 3 hours
i came on new years eve 2014 and it was amazing,i told my friend it was one of the best restaurant i have been......but my friend were not happy at all
Worst restaurant I have ever been to. Avoiding this place for god's sake.
I called and was told there were gluten free options on the menu...turned out only the raw and some cooked fish. No meats, salads or vegetables according to the wait staff. That was disappointing and also the portions were very very small.
The dishes are extremely small
Great experience, wonderful food and service, a little pricey but worth it!
Our experience was mixed. We were seated immediately at the time of our reservation and the wait staff was friendly and attentive. The food we had - grilled vegetables, grilled steak and grilled duck - was all quite good, especially the vegetables. However, the proportions were shockingly small, and we ended up ordering another dish because we really didn't get enough from the first three we had. We enjoyed the general ambience, but the noise level on Friday evening at 9 was too high to easily have conversation. Perhaps it would have been less noisy at an earlier hour or on another day. So although the food was well done and the service was good, the stinginess of the portions and the loudness of the room would make me reluctant to go back.
Robataya is a unique and authentic Far East restaurant dining experience. Call it "culinary theater" one can experience while watching chefs preparing original dishes from Your own selection of fresh ingredients. Servers are attentive and part of the whole crew interaction in
" vocal and visual " show just for You ! Food presentation and taste is superb!
The minute you walk in, you are immediately immersed in an environment that is not NYC... Transported to Japan... hosted, served and fed with regard, quality and deliciousness!!!
This place is not bad. But compared to its fame (thanks for TV), it doesn't raise to the expectation. The chef has skill and the grill items were good. But for the price, the ingredients need to be in better quality. A snapper chazuke cost $21 is still high, even in Manhattan standard. It was authentic and flavorful but nothing dramatically good enough to be $21. Also, I know the business is good, tons of people, etc, etc. But if it takes 20 mins to assemble one rice dish then you got some issue at management side.
Food was fresh but portions were extremely small for the surprisingly overpriced menu. After a meal (only one round of drinks per person) that cost over $80/person, we walked away literally still hungry, and had to go to another restaurant to fill us up. Grilled meat items were all dry, overcooked, and flavorless. Fresh grilled fish was very small and came out with hardly any marks to provide a grill flavor despite our specific request for this. Veggies were good but each order allowed just a couple bites. The ambiance was good and noise level relatively low, allowing for good flow of table conversation. Service was above average but not memorable. Overall, pretty disappointed. The $12/person meal we had subsequently at a Chinese restaurant nearby was far more satisfying.
The grilled vegetables were the outstanding items on Robataya's menu. Every one we sampled, from asparagus to enoki mushrooms to shishito peppers was delicious. The grilled meats were another matter; steak, tepid, overcooked (we asked for medium rare to rare) and flavorless. The chicken with teriyaki sauce was even less palatable. With these cautions in mind, ihowever, it would definitely be possible to pick and choose a great meal from the menu if you know what to order. Definitely worth a try.
It is the first time we sat at the table and not at the counter where we can watch the chef Robatayaki our food. Our dining session is kind of noisy with people celebrating birthday party.
Insist to be seated at the Robatayaki counter.
Food is extremely good and authentic. Everything is so fresh and flavorful.
The ambiance is amazing, as everything is set up like a traditional Japanese backyard.
It is really pricey, so go there for a date or special occasion!
Delicious and great service. Will definitely be back to try the other items
It is a great dinner
