Rob Dob's Restaurant and Bar
We enjoyed the steaks, the atmosphere and the service. However he prices are a little high and everything is ala carte, so unfortunately we will only be going back for special occasions .
We arrived at the restaurant about 530pm on a Tuesday evening and were warmly greeted by the hostess and quickly shown to our table. Our waiter, Michael, was very knowledable about the entire menu and answered our questions as they arose. The restaurant was very cool and boardered on cold but there were very few there until around 7pm. The pace of the service was very good and the preperation and presenttation was excellant. I enjoyed the scallops and my companion chicken. Both were prepared perfectly. We completed our meal with desert but had to take part of our desert home with us as we were full. The desert was excellant! Our bill for the evening was about $88.00 and look forward in returning for another special evening in the near future.
1st visit! Excellent food and service!
We will go back!
Overall average dining experience. We ordered appetizers but they came after we had our salads?? (30 minutes or so from the time of our original order). The service was great and the server was attentive to our needs. I ordered a fillet medium... it was served to me and was well done. The cocktail shrimp was OK... but for the price expected better quality shrimp A meal costing over $100 should be special. I did not feel that way from the beginning as we were seated next to the food service area at a “banquet style” round table. We had a party of 4... not sure why we needed a table that seated 8.
Awesome establishment..will definitely tell others and will defiantly be back soon.
Central Illinois has a new destination restaurant. Rob Dob's combines the casual comfort of a nice Central Illinois restaurant with food quality and flavors more abundant in larger cities .... but with a Central Illinois price. Although seafood may not be a specialty of the house the tuna that I had was the best that I have had anywhere in the US with a seared nicely seasoned crust , a tender filet served raw that could easily be cut with a fork, and enough meat to satisfy an adult male. My wife is a native Floridian who grew up on seafood and she fell in love with their swordfish that was more tender than any she can remember with a delicious citrus glaze. Both were garnished with nicely seasoned vegetables that made the added nutrition painless. We were on a schedule so skipped dessert, but the menu promised items that are not typically found on modest small city menus. And the best surprise was our tab which barely broke $60 which included tax and tip. For a town that is home to Biaggi's it is nice to have a worthy competitor that will no doubt draw customers from not only other downstate cities but will be a pleasant surprise to anyone traversing the Mother Road (Route 66) this summer and for years to come.
This was our first visit and we enjoyed it. Suggestions are: dim the lights slightly for a more intimate environment, find a way to keep car headlights from parking lot from shining in to the dining room and when serving bread include bread plates.
We were very impressed with the entrees.
We enjoyed our dining experience
The food was very good but the server was not up to expectations
Environment and drinks were great. Great service! Had a steak. Cooked perfectly. Little bland. Appetizers were great. Would go back and try something different.
Went to dinner for a special occasion. The service was attentive and the food extremely well cooked. Will definitely be coming back.
This is a beautiful restaurant, which you can tell they have worked very hard on. I like the decor, I like their bar selection and the menu has a great, old-fashioned steakhouse feel, but with a modern touch to the dishes. The only thing I didn’t think was particularly exceptional though, was the food. Nothing was bad at all, but - for the price - I would expect something really special, and nothing really hit that high mark. I think they definitely want to be the premier restaurant in this area, but it’s not quite there for me yet.
My husband and I enjoyed two delicious entrees from the lunch menu. I had a thick classic cheeseburger and it was cooked perfectly. My husband had the Reuben, which was also great! We both chose Parmesan crusted potato wedges. Love those!
The waitress was very attentive and the atmosphere is very pleasing. It was a nice place to celebrate our anniversary.
much fat meat as red blood as don't like narrow bone
Server Amber was excellent. Food was very good at lunch.
Overall, a nice meal. Had one little issue but our server easily and kindly handled the problem. I might suggest adding just a touch of seasoning to the calamari as it comes out of prep.
Food was really good, and the service was fabulous. Beautiful wood and lighting accents. Would definitely eat here again!
Filet was bloody and it was ordered well done. I said gilet it if necessary. Waitress did return it but middle was still RED
Our server was not good !! This was our second visit, first visit went well and enjoyed our meal and server, but this time not happy with server! She was not very friendly, did not refill our waters, had to ask other server for refills, never asked about our meal, took FOREVER to get our bill and then took FOREVER for her to retrieve our payments! We were there for 2 hours, mostly waiting for her to come back to our table! Food was good, breading fell off the country fried steak, garlic mashed potatoes dried up quickly if did not eat them soon. Overall was happy with our meals and will definitely return and try other items on menu. Our servers name was Julie and sorry, but did not leave a good tip
Very good food and definitely worth it! I plan to go back as soon as I can.
There were 8 of us with dinner reservations on NYE. Our table was ready on time, however we were put in a back room that had a card table added to the end of a large table... and a black tablecloth and fake plant on it. Felt very banquet-style and not luxurious. Our server and food were both very good. My only complaint on the food....Typically side dishes at steakhouses are large and shareable and these were not. For $7 extra I got about 5 brussel sprouts. Now for the bar experience.... very beautiful but the service is terrible. Waited about 10 minutes for a drink and bar wasn’t even full. Instead of being able to keep a tab open the bartenders kept trying to cash us out right away. When we were allowed to keep our tab open... and a different bartender served us a drink the second round... they would ask who we opened the tab with... very weird and have never experienced this. Why does it matter? When we went to cash out, only the bartender who opened our tab would run our card. Not a great experience in the bar. Overall it’s worth trying but I didn’t think it was worth the cost and needs better bar service.
I would recommend a friend to try, however, the full dining rooms are very loud and hard to hold conversation with out being loud.
The food is good but overpriced for the area.
Hopefully it will improve but the night we were there the drinks were wrong and the steak overcooked.
I really, really wanted to like this place. We made a reservation, but they sat us at a high top table in the bar. The table was tiny and people coming into the bar area brushed up against me. This was going to be our romantic night out at an upscale restaurant. We were so smushed, so my husband had NO room and had to eat left handed. We never got water, and I honestly have NEVER been to an upscale restaurant in which water was not served when the server or hostess seats you. I hope they recognize that money goes a lot further in other restaurants in this town that offer a much better overall experience. Outback is better and cheaper, so they better figure it out. That is a huge restaurant and with $140 bill for two people: I expect nice seating when I have made a reservation, water readily available, and food that wows me (meal was good just not THAT good).
A wonderful dinner. Fast service. Great cocktails. The majority of the group had the steaks and loved them.
We really enjoyed the food! It is a beautiful restaurant and the service was great. Be mindful when reading some reviews that it is a new restaurant and any new restaurant has faults they need to work through. Overall great experience and we will be going back.
Fantastic all the way around!!
Had reservations for a Friday night. Hostess attempted to seat us in the bar area. Who makes reservations to sit in a bar? I asked to be moved. Could tell the hostess was taken aback. Got seated in one of the main dining rooms. One in our party ordered a house salad. Came with lettuce with brown spots and the ranch dressing on the side was very thin. Ordered a pasta dish with chicken but the chicken was very skimpy. My wife ordered hot tea. It came in a little metal pot that could not hold the heat. Water cooled rapidly. Waiter never asked if she needed more hot water. Waiter was not very attentive. All in all a bad dining experience. We will not be returning.
The setting was great as was our server. We ordered martinis extra dry which had to be sent back because the bartender had put extra dry vermouth in them instead of hardly any. Several in our party ordered liver and onions. They were disappointed it was overcooked and dry. The rest of us had good drinks and food. Will give them another try and order differently.
The food was good, but Rob Dob's did not meet the standards for a high end restaurant. Two examples, our waitress was very unfamiliar with the menu. She was also very willing to say that things were high priced. Behind the hostess stand is a large mirror that was very dirty and streaky. If I make a decision to eat at that type of restaurant, I want the entire restaurant to reflect that it is high end, not just the food.
Sat in bar area. Pretty quiet and music was turned down.
Great service. Menu is extremely basic and could cook at home, not the place to go if you are a foodie.
Every dish we tried was awful - steaks, seafood, apps, salads.
Had made reservations. Arrived a little early. Got seated right away. Took order pretty quickly. The quality of steaks where not good and not cooked to our order. Prime rib was still rare and I sent it back. They offered to cook it some more but I told them I lost my appetite and did not want it. They did remove it from my bill. I know the place is new and they have some adjustments to make but it will be a while before we go back.
The halibut was over cooked and tough. The sides were diced potatoes with no flavor and asparagus. All that for $30. The wine list is very respectable. Service was great.
Beautiful rooms! Beautiful Christmas trees in each room. Amazing holiday music piped in the background. Did not disappoint!!!
The room with the fireplace is really nice. The noise level is rather high.
The food and service were good. The prices were not out of line
After a friend had an entire drink spilled on her (literally head to toe) they covered that one drink and dessert for the people at the table that ordered it. The poor girl who was drenched didn’t even get her meal taken care of. The whole thing was awkward and the manager handled it all poorly.
I understand what was intended - a steakhouse that would be approachable, appealing to the typical Bloomington diner. It's just not at all what I was hoping for. Much more like CJ's than a Chicago steakhouse. Food is okay, wine list is laughable (highlight an $8 bottle of white, so Bloomington), as is the bar (top shelf Irish whiskey is literally Jameson). Wait staff know little to nothing about food, should have taken a page out of Biaggi's book and trained their staff better. The average Bloomingtonian will probably love it.
Absolutely love the decor!! Food was delicious and the service was great! We have already bought gift cards for several of our friends and family!! Can't wait to go again!
