Fabulous Sunday Roast . Absolutely delicious . Wine is a bit pricey but great quality
Had a fab time at Roast a 18th birthday treat for my son . Food was fab
Sadly the quality of the food did not meet our expectations, we had to send the potatoes back because they tasted like frozen potatoes reheated and the Yorkshire pudding was over cooked. The meat was lovely but overall not the quality you expect at those prices.
It was OK but the ratings are mainly driven by the price / quality equation in that the service was OK but not great and the food was similar but it felt a bit mean with no bread, smallish portions and the xpensive sides. If you want to be expensive you have to just try a bit harder than they did.
Great food, lovely wine and a bustling lively room. Great fun for a family meal!
Breakfast was delicious. Good portion sizes, fair prices and fresh food. The dining room is beautiful and the staff were all very friendly. I ordered a side of avocado which unfortunately was forgotten and it proved difficult to get the attention of staff as they were all very busy but other than that everything was great.
Bad food, terrible service and awful follow up from the GM.
We loved the atmosphere and particularly the location.
The service at the reception and the bar were superb.
The service at the table was good - perfectly timed food and waiters were polite and perfectly attentive.
It was a little bit more pricier than I expected - my cocktail was £14 - but it was the alcohol that pushed up the cost.
Lovely meal, good service, a little on the expensive side but would go back
Pre dinner cocktail was very nice. Food was very good and decent sized portions. We opted for the '3 courses for £35' menu and asked if we could swap the desert for a coffee instead; we were told that was fine but charged £35 plus the price of the coffee - not on. I would recommend the restaurant, the food and service were definitely some of the best I've encountered.
I had to wait an hour and a quarter for my table and after that another 30 minutes to be served
I’ve been previously and Roast has lost its way on service. Table 20 minutes late and no apology. Ran out of cauliflower cheese with Sunday lunch and also ran out of our wine choice. Very slow service. Won’t be going back
Must say we've been to Roast before and had an excellent experience, unfortunately this time wasn't so good, my request for a round table by the window was nor fulfilled, so instead we were in the lower section quite close to the kitchen, it was very noisy so hard to talk as a group, the food ok, but my soup was warm not hot, the mains was good quality meat but they only served us 4 individual portions of roast potatoes for 5 of us, so we had to request the missing portion, unfortunately two of the desserts (crumble) were only partially cooked and cold, so had to be returned & replaced. The wine we first ordered we were told was out of stock but the waiter managed to locate a couple of bottles but at a price of £60- per bottle, therefore, it was a pretty expensive Sunday roast for not great food and lack of attentive waiting staff as they were all extremely busy.
Having waited and heard such good things about Roast I was very disappointed.
More so since actually taking the time to write to the restaurant before leaving feedback but not received an acknowledgement.
Table booked for 2:15 had to wait in the very packed bar area for over 45 mins where everywhere you stood you were in someones way! - was seated at gone 3pm. They did not meet our specific requested seating requirements even though I had called and confirmed.
Roast run out of specific side orders by 3:30pm and out of cheeseboards and deserts by 5pm.
The food we ate was very nice - but obviously would have been better with a full menu available.
It is not cheap to eat at Roast and I believe you should get what you pay for - in this instance we certainly did not.
Staff were nice, worked very hard.
We had a delicious meal and our waiter was utterly fantastic. I was rather surprised though when the man who seemed to be in charge of the arrivals desk came over to us as we had just received our deserts to say he wanted our table back. We were well aware of the two hour rule and had, as requested, given our desert orders with our starters and main course orders. We had not asked for any delays through the meal therefore it seemed a bit rich to be asked Ford our table back when we had not even started our deserts. Frankly this spoilt what had been a lovely meal. Our waiter apologised profusely. But there was no chance to have coffee or finish our wine without standing at the bar. I understand that time limits are required but if you are insistent that they need to be kept to then you need to speed up the service and not make guests feel like it is their fault.
Had a lovely meal, the only thing that let it down was the chicken was very dry, but other than that everything was delicious.
I have dined at Roast a number of times and always liked it until my experience last Saturday. While the food was good, the service was poor. It seemed that there were not enough waiters. My friend and I also witnessed a disturbing scene. The gentleman who appeared to be the maitre de bumped into a young lady who was serving sparkling wine to a large table near ours and treated her as if it was her fault not his. I also thought the wine pour for the price was meager. In all, not that great of an evening.
It was lovely!
I was a little underwhelmed to be honest as I was really looking forward to a special lunch. Food was ok, we had roasts which were ok. Gravy was thin and sparse, wine never came so we cancelled it towards the end of the meal and it just wasn’t special in any way.
I’ve been for dinner and that was much nicer so maybe it’s an evening spot rather than lunch.
Can’t fault Roast we had an amazing breakfast, the staff were attentive and the breakfast cocktails are a must.
Dear guest Thank you very much for your lovely review. It is so very rewarding to receive positive feedback, and for you to take the time to put pen to paper to let us know. Your review will be shared with the whole team. Thank you. We look forward to welcome you back soon, Bruno Zuliani general manager
Lukewarm overpriced food failing on a flavour front. To be fair the staff replaced my lamb Barnsley chop when I complained it was luke warm but generally disappointed given price, reputation and precious experience (although that was a very long time ago with a different chef and gamier menu). Much better places in that area at that kind of price.
Dear guest Thank you for your feed back. I am sorry to hear your experience did not match our usual food standards we are so well known for by all our regular guests, I am pleased to hear we reacted very quickly, but I agree we should have got it right the first time. My sincere apologies for the shortfalls. We hope you will give us the opportunity to put things right by returning soon, bruno Zuliani general manager
There weren’t any pasta dishes on the main course menu this time. I had liver which was quite good. The restaurant was quite noisy and because I have hearing problems I couldn’t easily hear the person sitting opposite me. I realise this isn’t the restaurant’s fault, I mention it so others can consider if this is the place for them. I came just with one person last time and it was fine.
Staff were friendly.
The service was a little bit distracted. I mentioned we were celebrating a birthday and we had a person with severe allergies and gluten intolerance, and the waiters were unaware. I had to mention a couple of times.
Hasn’t been as outstanding as it has been in many other occasions. Also, the restaurant was a bit too loud for comfortable conversations
Been here numerous times before - food is always very good and service attentive but not intrusive.
Two points of feedback
- make the font size on the menu a little larger and darker as those of us with ageing eyes struggle to read the description below each dish;
- this applies equally to the wine list as I wouldn't have spent £68 on bottle of House Red (the list offers a 375ml carafe for £35 but the 375ml is hard to read so the natural assumption is that it's a bottle) but gone to the main wine list as there were arguably better wines available for comparable money.
Haven't been here in some time. Food matched expectations and was delicious. Service was courteous and the sommelier very helpful and provided us with out-of-this-world wine choice. Less noisy that I recall, which was good.
Roast is in a great location. The food is basic and the chef can’t get a poached egg right. The service is lent great. I’d never come back if there were more breakfast options nearby.
Dear guest please contact me at the restaurant Bruno Zuliani general manager
the service was very poor we asked for water 3 times!!
the starters came at separate times !!
felt we had to ask for everything and then it was slow.
so bad didn't have dessert or drinks
Dear David Thank you for your feed back I am sorry and apologise for the shortfalls in our services during your last visit, please let me know when you visit the restaurant next so we can put things right. Bruno Zuliani general manager
There was a lot of things missing from the menu. The main one there was no bread!!
Dear Suzanne Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear there were many items missing from the menu, however I am confused about the bread? we always have so much bread here please contact me to discuss Bruno Zuliani general manager
Yorkshire puddings were overcooked, beef was quite fatty. Got given the wrong thing twice and then they were still on the bill when we tried to pay. Drinks took a very long time to come- even just a beer. I thought overall the actual roast was average but the dessert and scotch eggs were delucious!! And the ambience and actual venue fantastic
Wonderful food, wonderful service. Great location. Perfect for a special occasion!
Dear guest Thank you for your lovely review Parvez will be rewarded accordingly for going the extra mile. We are looking forward to welcome you very soon, Bruno Zuliani general manager
Good for groups but too hectic and noisy for two people. Food was very nice but felt quite stressed after leaving.
Great food but poor service. Too many customers and we were served by too many different staff who weren’t sure what or when we had ordered
Very noisy and also hot as it’s like a greenhouse
We booked a meal at Roast after seeing it featured on Nick Helm's "Eat your Heart Out". The restaurant itself looks beautiful with loads of windows with views of Borough Market and beyond. Though it was very busy, it still felt intimate and friendly. The food was absolutely excellent. I had Calves liver (a personal favourite) with roast beetroots and creamed kale. My husband had beef wellington and the kids had steaks. We had charcuterie to start. My youngest son had the flat iron steak and didn't enjoy his meal because there was pesto on the plate which was unexpected and tainted everything for him. But he loved the pudding. Cocktails were also excellent. The white chocolate martini was particularly good as,, I am told was the Borough Market sour. A meal for 5 came to over £400 inc service charge. It was, however, an excellent meal as the food, the drink and the ambiance were all great.
We had booked for brunch for two people. Ordered pancakes and avocado on toast with a poached egg.
The pancakes were raw in the middle with mixture just oozing out. The Avocado on toast was a small square of toast with avocado and a single poached egg. Very poor quality of food for a place that was renowned for being a foodie fixture.
Dear guest, thank you for sharing your feed back with us, I am sorry we did not meet with our usual standards, we have since spoken with our chef who took immediate action to avoid this from happening again. We hope to see you again very soon in the future, regards, Bruno Zuliani general manager
Beautiful place but server seemed new and struggled to help us! She was very nice but not very knowledgeable...I made the mistake of ordering steak and it was flavorless and very chewy! It was perfectly medium rare but no flavor...
Dear guest Thank you for your feed back, we have recently had a few additions to our team, and a lot of training is required before been fully competent. I am sorry it affected your experience, I also spoke to our chef about the quality of the meat. We hope to welcome you again very soon, Bruno Zuliani general manager
Food was quite disappointing & the service quite average. Food & drinks constantly going to incorrect tables. Bill was huge!
Dear Nikki I am sorry you experience a shortfall in our food and drink service on your last visit, we have had a number of new trainees joining our team in preparation for Christmas. Not sure what exactly was disappointing with the food as you did not specify. We hope to welcome you back very soon, Bruno Zuliani general manager
Excellent location in the hustle and bustle of Borough Market. Clean and tidy. Polite and friendly staff. Third visit to this restaurant, will come again.
Excellent service great quality food and piping hot and fresh
Dear Lucy Thank you very much for your lovely feed back, I am delighted we surpassed your expectations. We look forward to welcome you back soon, Bruno Zuliani general manager
The waiters were really polite but our booking at 6:30 on a Wednesday took an hour for us to have our order taken. I had the festival menu, fish bake was mainly mash but the starter and pudding were nice. Drinks we received in parts and had to remind staff we were missing some and they had been poured as I could see them on the bar. I also don't think it's necessary for the wine to be taken away and waiting for staff to pour, not really that kind of restaurant in my view. Great location though.
Dear guest I am extremely sorry to hear your experience was spoilt on Wednesday night at Roast. Sadly we were caught by surprise with a large number of bookings walking in, which were not expected. consequently we were unable to deliver regular standards I do apologise. I hope you will come and visit us again soon to give us the opportunity to put things right. Bruno Zulliani general manager
Really awful experience- service a disgrace, food terrible and they didn’t seem to care, new menu out of control, new staff not able to cope and large groups demanding service led to a terrible experience- we’ve been coming here for years but not after this
