The candle-lit room radiates modern romance, with Moroccan lamps and antique mirrors juxtaposed with an indie rock soundtrack, and can accommodate everything from date nights to small group dinners to large parties and buyouts.
View Private Dining DetailsServer was lovely and ambiance was fabulous
Way too loud and dark... non-seafood dishes could be better. Service was exceptional though.
Amazing! Will definitely come back!
A bit too loud for the date night I wanted, but the drinks and food were good! Seemed to be a good place for groups to come celebrate.
We decided to visit RM after reading a few online reviews. The reviews made it seem like this place was romantic ,hip, and the place to be in Chicago. We thought the food selection was minimal at best. Taste was very specific to the patron, but nothing out of this world. We ordered several appetizers and a couple of entrees to experience the menu offerings, and ultimately were left disappointed. The atmosphere was dark and extremely loud! The candles on the table were an attempt for a romantic environment, but we found ourselves using the flashlights on our phones to read the menu. The place was sooooo loud, we kept asking the waitress to repeat herself when we were talking. We still had a nice time because we made the best of it... Overall, we were left disappointed with our experience, and won’t be returning. We visit many different restaurants weekly. RM seems overrated...but this is only one opinion :)
Frankly, the cons outweighed the pros for me.
The noise is my biggest complaint! I hate having to lean in and literally raise my voice to an uncomfortable level, almost a full yell, just to be heard by my friends next to me. I had to do that even at 5:30 pm after work. I would be more understanding if it were, say, 6:30 or later, but no, it is loud and busy it seems from the early evening on.
I thought the beverages I had, specifically the on-tap beer and a cocktail, were overpriced by several dollar at $12 and $20 respectively. However, the food was quite good and not too overpriced for what I had, a $12 steak tartare app that myself and my two girlfriends shared and an AMAZING $17 burger with truffle fries. I would definitely get that burger again. Also, it paired very will with the beer I ordered, an IPA
The atmosphere would have been delightful had there been fewer people and quieter music, but overall it was too loud and crowded for my tastes. I did find the aesthetic quite appealing, however. The walls are a rich blue, with lots of gorgeous decor, an open fire, and a lovely bar and seating area.
All in all, if you don't mind an extremely loud environment and fairly expensive drinks, I would say this is an excellent place for you. I won't be going again on the weekend if I can possibly help it, but maybe on a week day at 5:00 pm sharp.
The management (David?) and our server Savanna, were amazing! Just like the atmosphere. They made a fire for us. Recommended amazing cocktails and let us sample! Treated the Birthday girl with a candle and dessert; without our mentioning and were so attentive. It was a special experience! I can’t wait to go back!!!!!!!! It’s my new Favorite place! Give them a big Thanks from all of us! And move them to the top of your special experience for anything list ; ) Thank you!
Easter brunch with family. Such a quaint place tucked away off the street. Loved it!
Great date spot! Extensive champagne menu and yummy cocktail list. A little on the louder side but not too bad. Mussels and salmon tartare were great!
Awesome restaurant with a unique setting for either dinner or drinks.
A little too crowded and loud for the cute anniversary drinks we went there for
Excellent food but I guess I’m surprised and disappointed that they play club music really loudly...?! With such a warm cozy atmosphere it doesn’t make sense that I had to yell to be heard over the music.
Absolutely loved this restaurant. Charming and romantic, perfect for a celebration...or not. :)
Aside from it being loud, it’s fabulous. Food was amazing. Drinks great. A bit pricey, but quality was so good.
Beautiful place tucked away from the street via a stone walkway. They accommodated my request for the spot in front of the fireplace (many thanks!). The food was great with a good portion sizes, and the waitress, Irene, was pleasant, attentive, and knowledgeable about the champagnes. Had an amazing time there with my now fiance!
In town for work/spring break. Booked Sunday on OpenTable for 7:00 Monday (Girlfriend’s birthday)
, then had to postpone reservation till 7:30.
Got all dressed up, showed up around 7:20 to a deserted restaurant. Gentlemen who was locking up the door explained RMC was closed for the day. I asked if the closure had been shared with OpenTable, he said that the reservation ladies should have. I advised something clearly was wrong, as I had reservations. Gentlemen apologized and said the restaurant had been used for filming recently.
Not happy with the lack of communication between RMC and OpenTable
When I tried to book ANOTHER reservation elsewhere, OpenTable refused to let my double-book, mandating that I first cancel my RMC reservation, which was impossible to do - only option was to call RMC and cancel over the phone. Nobody answered the phone.
F for first experience and reservation problems.
Showed up for our 6:30PM reservation for my husbands 30th birthday and no one was there. Doors were unlocked all the lights were on but no employees or customers were to be seen. Very odd and very dissappointing. Ended up having eat at another great restaurant nearby but at the bar because everything was a 2 hour wait.
The sea food and cocktails are to die for and the service was incredible! Great hot spot for a fun date or a night out with friends.
The waitstaff was exceptional and extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The food was phenomenal as well! I will be recommending this to my friends!! The chicken and waffles were perfect!
We enjoyed the food very much. Ambience was good, very nice space that I am sure would be even better in the summer with the patio. Unfortunately, they seemed to be out of a lot of items. My husband went through three drink choices before he found something he wanted that they actually had.
The food was very good and the atmosphere was nice. The music was much too loud. I appreciate a lively atmosphere, but, not when I have to shout to be heard and constantly ask waitstaff and others at my table to repeat themselves.
Our waitress was wonderful and the food was fantastic
One word describes RM Champagne Salon....AWESOME.....atmosphere, service, food and ambiance!
The food was delicious and interesting. Loved the oysters and the Champignons Flatbread had the perfect balance of ingredients and truffle oil. Loved the fire place.
Our reservation for RM Champagne was made for 7:30. We were not seated until an 75 minutes later, at 8:45. They comped our oysters which ended up costing them only $12 since they were $1 special. They did not seem to plan reservations well.
Pros: romantic, descent food, good drinks (The Left Breast was my favorite)
Cons: loud, dark (had to use my phones flashlight to read the menu, tables are too close to each other which makes it hard to have a private conversation
Great vibe, food was good
It was a great experience, but it was not private. The tables were so close together it was hard to get out to go to the restroom and leave. It was also very loud due to it being a busy night and a large amount of people in a small space. The restaurant itself was very trendy and a great experience, along with our server being very tentative.
Celebrating my daughter’s 21st Birthday. This was her pick of a place to meet. So glad, too. Everything from the cocktails at the bar, to the greeter allowing us to wait for the birthday girl before being sat (holding our table) and the server, we had a nice long relaxing dinner. Our table was directly in front of the fireplace, which we enjoyed. Made for some great pictures. The food was great. We ordered almost everything on the menu, as it’s limited - but we loved. Lots of small plates (we also threw in a few entrees). Made for the perfect group gathering. Thank you for a memorable evening. Looking forward to our next visit!
Awesome food! Great service very romantic restaurant.
Service was very slow. We sat down on our tables and it took the server/ host 20 mins to get us the menu. And then it was downhill from there - we ordered a couple of apps and bread - the bread took like 15 mins to come.
For entrees we ordered the steak frites. The steak we’d ordered was medium. We got an over done steak which was overly salty.
The peanut butter dessert was nice but was a frozen chunk of ice cream - that took a major workout to break down.
The service was below par for a restaurant in that location - the food was just nothing great.
We went for a birthday - unfortunately it wasn’t the best experience. Won’t recommend to anyone. Dine at your risk
Heavily understaffed and many of our items were slow to arrive. Would’ve been better to not waste my time with the steak.
The restaurant was cold in temperature by he windows
Our service was horrible. Between being seated and ordering of Cava, we waited about 20 minutes. Once we got our bottle, we waited another 20-25 minutes to place our order. Our server was not easy to track down during any of this. The restaurant week menu was good, though the trout was over-cooked. The best course was the first- two of us ordered the steak tartare that could've been a main.
Wonderful sparkling/red/white wine list and beers. Superb meal of Lyonnaise salad, large and tasty. Coq au vin with winter vegetables was also meaty and tasty. I loved the 3 gelotti. Highly recommended, but reservations are a must.
RM is a lovely space. but the service and food also are excellent. We will be back!
Took awhile to get seated
The food was impeccable and the staff was very friendly. It was the perfect ambiance for a date night or a catch up dinner with a friend. They didn't have our table ready for our reservation on time which was very frustrating, but they ended up providing us with a complimentary glass of champagne. Overall I was very impressed with the entire experience and will be returning.
My wife & I dined at RM Champagne this past Friday. We had eaten here on 2 separate occasions & thoroughly enjoyed our meals. When we came in we both noticed the noise level was very high. The room was packed & I believe happy hour was ending but there was something seriously wrong with the speakers in the restaurant. All you could hear was the this incessant bass beat & fuzz, NO MUSIC. It was as if you pulled up to some dude that spent $4,000.00 in stereo equipment on his car. Even with your windows rolled up you can hear the incessant bass beat. That was our soundtrack for the evening! I wish that I had brought ear plugs. If the speakers are on the fritz, then turn the damn things off.
We were seated by the windows after telling the hostess that a table right by the door was not an option. Mind you, it was a balmy 15 degrees on Friday & the wind blew in every time someone opened the door! It cut through you like a knife. Combined with the cold coming off the wall of windows, my wife & I were forced to keep our winter coats on throughout the meal. For 90 minutes we had to endure sitting on cold metal chairs while dealing with a constant barrage of cold. It was like being on a perpetual chair lift except we did not have the beauty of the mountains to distract us.
We ordered from the Restaurant Week menu & for the most part dinner was good. My wife ordered the Lobster Deviled Eggs. I had the steak tartare. Both were good. For the entre my wife picked the Trout Grenobloise & I had the Coq Au Vin. The Coq Au Vin was good but instead of Trout my wife was served salmon! Seriously, if you ran out of trout just let us know you had to substitute salmon, don't insult a patron this way. We both had the Gelati Trio & while this was good ice cream, this was not GELATO! Our waitress Iryna was the highlight of this meal. She was friendly & considerate and even tried to get the "music" turned down but to no avail. We were both glad to get out of there.
I came for Restaurant Week and was underwhelmed with the food. I think my expectations were just a bit higher. The space is really nice. For some reason, the music was extremely loud and the bass just thudded a lot as if we were in a vehicle with bad speakers. It didn't match the vibes of the space.
