RM Champagne Salon Ratings and Reviews
The coc au vin and the steak frits were very good. As was the steak tartar. The table was nice. My wife was on a wall seat with lots of pillows, I had a chair. The decor is cool but the scenery walking around the place was great! We were having fun people watching.
The service was a little slow, but looking at the place, slow was expected. The only down side, and it was a big one, they brought the steak tar tar appetizer with our entries.
Overall, we liked the place, but the service glitch was bad. At least we know to ask first.
The martini's were quite good, though.
First, it was a little difficult to find the entrance of this place. When we did, either the doors were accidentally locked or extremely hard to open. The hostess did not care to help, we waited until the next guest left to go in. We were seated and had to wait about 20 minutes for our server to take our drink order. Shortly after getting our drinks, she took our food order and then didn’t see her for a good 45 minutes after that. Our water glasses were empty, no one asked if we’d like another cocktail or even asked how the food was. Luckily the food was delicious. We expressed our concern to the hostess and were very disappointed when we left without a visit from a manager or front of house supervisor. Extremely disappointing. Probably won’t go back.
Second time we have been here. Great drinks, but still a bit over priced. The bass seems loud for the small size of the room. The tables are crammed in there so tight its really not possible to get up and out. That all being said the table right in front of the fireplace was great! it was a cold night so the fire was very nice. I think this is a better than most places to get a drink, but not great.
Solid drinks (bartender made a pretty good version of a Wisconsin Old Fashioned) at a price comparable to other West Loop options. Came on a Tuesday night for drinks after a dinner date. Fun moment when a couple of belly dancers came out and did their thing through the restaurant. Had a great seat next to the fireplace. Only downside was the blaring music that made conversation difficult. Too bad because the vibe in here seemed to be more of a cozy date spot, and bumping club music doesn't really jive with the setting on a weeknight.
Service was great: friendly, fast. They allowed us to move to an interior table after initially sitting us by the window where it was super drafty. We were sat quickly, no wait with our reservation. Food was good too! Very rich. Came out of the kitchen quickly. They were bumping hip hop, though, which isn’t an issue just different/interesting given the setting/decor. Don’t remember it being quite the party spot it appears to be now.
Nice ambiance, but super noisy, even on a Wednesday evening, can hardly hear a person shouting in your ear. Food was good, except for the main course - signature coq au vin - that was too salty to eat (sent it back and replaced with another entree without a problem). Also, skip the dessert - the mini pastries are actually micro and not all that good.
I thought the drinks were great and the fries were incredible. However, I made a reservation for my birthday and we got there 8 minutes late. We ended waiting around for an hour before they seated us. It felt very frustrating that they didn’t hold the table for at least 10 minutes.. and that we had to stand around for an hour with a reservation.
RM Champagne was the worst night out that I've had in the city in a long time. I made a reservation for my girlfriend and I in celebration of our one year anniversary. The reservation was for 8PM but we didn't get seated until 8:45. It appeared that our reservation made no difference and that they were seating people first come first serve. As if that weren't enough, they ended up seating us in the bar and not in the restaurant itself. From there, they proceeded to screw up our orders three times. They brought half an order of oysters, not the full order as requested. They completely forgot to bring out the brussels sprout appetizer. And our server said he was going to comp us for one of our dirty martinis because it took so long to come out, but he left it on the bill anyways. We could tell that some of the workers there were trying to make up for their mistakes by comping us free drinks, but it couldn't make up for the litany of screw ups that we experienced. These free drinks must have cost a pretty penny. Five comp'd drinks in total. SMH. Will not be a repeat customer.
I live a block from RM, and love the European atmosphere etc. Saturday night I came in just before midnight- there was an extremely loud bachelorette party and RM was blasting hip hop. I couldn’t hear what my date was saying. We left before ordering anything. Not that I’m against any of that, but I was just a little confused. Didn’t think that was the vibe there? Maybe just an off night.
Absolutely amazing food, but terribly awful service. There was only one waitress for the entire floor and they were out of almost every bottle of wine we tried to order. As a replacement our waitress offered us a bottle that wasn’t even at the same price point then overcharged us even more than what that bottle had said it costed on the menu. We ordered a few sides only to find out 30 minutes later they were out of two of them and we weren’t getting them at all. Our waitress was very nice even with the position she was put in by the managers and the poor staffing situation and changed our bill in the end with no questions asked since we were overcharged for the wine and charged for some menu items we never even received.
This place was SO cute - we really wanted to love it but...
The service was terrible. It took forever to even order our drinks. When they came, they gave me something different and before I could even say anything, the waitress walked away and didn't even come back outside for 15 minutes for me to say anything.
The food was pretty good, but our steak, burger, and fries were all cold by the time we eventually got them. It was a Friday night, I get it, but that food had been sitting in the window a long time to get that cold.
To top it off, we ordered two well drinks. . . which ended up costing us $15/drink.
Wish I could love it because it's just so cute, but I don't think we'll be returning.
My boyfriend and I have been there twice now. The first time we went for cheese/ dessert and champagne. There were so many cheeses to select from - we chose 5
Different ones. When they came to check on us they asked how we liked them and I said this one was delicious so on and so forth and I came to the last one and said that one wasn't our favorite. But it was still good. Who doesn't love cheese! We ordered cheesecake bites (beyond amazing!) and ice cream. They didn't charge us for the dessert bc we didn't like that one cheese! Something they definitely didn't' need to do! The second time we went we sat near the fire - it was so cozy. inhighly recommend the pommes frites. The staff was so nice. The food was delicious and I loved the champagne. Great vibes great food!
