Amazing all around. It was a Sunday, no lunch menu offered. Delicious, just more food than I needed.
RJ Mexican Cuisine was very flexible to fit my needs for a group dinner at 7:30 on a Wednesday night, allowing me to finalize the final number to about an hour before the event. We ended up with 18 people -- all of us had worked a long day at the convention center -- and they put us at two rectangular set-ups right next to each other. Thanks especially to the manager, Michael, and to our good-natured and able servers Chico and Steven, for making it a good night for all including me, who was organizing the whole thing. I preordered chips and guac and queso, so that they were all ready when attendees started strolling in. The dinner food and drink options were varied enough to suit everyone's special tastes (vegetarian to steak lovers) - raves for many of the Chef Creations, including the Ribeye Ranchero and the Salmon Del Mar. We shared a couple of desserts and they were all tasty. Note that the restaurant has some booth seating, and what looked to be a nice bar area; if we lived in Dallas, no doubt we would come here much more often. The restaurant is located in the Historic West End, and a couple of attendees found a couple of nice local clothing shops nearby that were still open until 9pm, so that was a nice bonus.
Wonderful food and great service!!
Great dining experience. Very family friendly. I was able to eat a good Vegan meal while my son was very happy with his steak selection. The fried cheesecake was fantastic and was very beautifully plated with fresh bananas and strawberries. The Mexican mules were exceptional.
I was very impressed not only with the unique food but also the amazing staff. The wait staff was very attentive and the manager made sure that we were happy with everything. I would definitely go here again when I am in town.
The restaurant was well located in the downtown area of Dallas. Service was great and prices were reasonable. Food was great.
Great service from Craig !!!
Great food and great service. Loved the queso dip. Margaritas were yummy too.
My friends and I had met up to eat dinner here. The ambiance was very nice, However, i was very disappointed by how cold they kept the restaurant. Imagine a restaurant with air conditioning on, or no heat on when it's 17 and below outside..... They even had a fireplace that was unlit. I hinted and then eventually asked my waiter several times about the heat, to which he responded as if he didn't notice or didn't care. I'm not exaggerating when i say that it was very cold in this restaurant. I was embarrassed that i had even suggested this restaurant, since we had never been there before. The only amount of heat provided was from my fajitas...speaking of which, i think the food could be truly good to those who love spicy food! While my fajitas were good, everything else, including my beans were extremely spicy for some reason. The other entrees at my table were enchiladas and soup. Not sure i'll be back at this restaurant during the winter
First time experience was on Christmas evening. Had a limited menu + open buffet of fajitas, nachos, and brisket. The food was delicious (especially the brisket). We helped ourselves to seconds. The ambience was great, service was great - we will definitely be back on a normal night!
What Mexican place does not have guacamole!! Awful food and service was pretty average. We went for the Christmas buffet and the buffet area was not kept clean and tidy it was disgusting.
We went for Christmas dinner. We enjoyed the buffet.
We went here for Christmas. The staff was friendly and the food was good.
Went for Xmas dinner and didn't know in advance about the limited menu. We were disappointed since it was our first visit there. Food was okay.
I had been to RJ’s once before and Had a poor experience but decided to give it another shot for Christmas dinner.
We made reservations...I did see that they had a special menu, including 4 different steaks, a surf and turf, and a taco/fajita buffet.
We arrived and waited behind a family for about 3 minutes...no host was there, more people came in.
Finally, the family in front of us were showed to their seats...but still no greeting and no host. Another minute passed and someone asked if we had been helped...we said no and the man thanked us for our patience and said someone would be there...another minute and someone show up and we were seated. Not horrible but a shaky start. As we were showed to our table, the man pointed to a table saying this was our table and he walked off in another direction...we hesitated, but sat ourselves.
We saw a menu and realized this was the only offering...which was ok, except the menu had no appetizers or starters...just a choice of five entrees and the taco/fajita buffet. The only dessert offered was brownies.
We asked for a drink menu twice...settled on 2 different margaritas... mine was heavy on the sweet and sour, his was just very sweet.
We asked about appetizers and were told none was available...but I that they could give us chips and salsa if we ordered entrees. We ordered steak and surf and turf...chips never made it.
The surf and turf came with lobster , shrimp, and filet..with optional lump crab...but the waiter was unfamiliar with the offering and trying to add the crab was awkwardly a fail...he couldn’t understand what we wanted somehow.
We attempted to order a bottle of wine...but after ordering the 2 Cabernet offerings they had and finding they were out of both...we gave up on wine.
The steaks were good...no issues with the flavor and temps of the steaks. The potatoes were ok, vegetables were a soggy mess.
We were not offered dessert...we left with a less than content feeling overall.
Brunch in Christmas morning is a family tradition. They never disappoint. Wait staff is amazing and the owner is a super nice guy. Can’t recommend enough.
The service was good; ambience is nice. The dirty martini was too dirty (way too much olive juice), the tortilla soup was way too salty, as was the specialty taco. My wife’s ribeye was of low quality; so much grizzle it was hard to find the good parts. It’s not a place we’ll go to again while in Dallas.
We were a group of 13 from Ottawa and everything was perfect. Great service topped by even better food. Restaurant honoured the patio drink special in the resaurant without issue. We come to Dallas every year for sporting events and we will be back for sure. cheers from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Enjoyable dinning experience,we plan to visit again. They’re are many main courses we’d like to try,as well as appetizers on the menu that are intriguing. The atmosphere is modern clean ,lighting created a nice relaxing meal ,understand the weekend is kinda quite,we completely enjoyed the entire experience and look forward to returning soon, highly recommend and nice to return to the west end.
Best Mexican food in Dallas!
Very nice place. Food was very good better than I expected for some reason. Juan was a very good server. My wife had some sort of street tacos and she loved them. I had the cheese enchiladas and they were packed full of cheese, topping were very good. Portion were big. We will be back
Food was sooo good. Prices were great. Staff was so friendly. Nice decor. Awesome environment. We will def come back when we are back in Dallas.
Our waiter, Jose, was great. There when we needed to order and get our glasses refilled, but left us to dine in peace. We thought the food, I had child relllenos and my wife had shrimp tacos, were excellent. The vinegar based cold slaw was a treat I've not seen in a Mexican food place. We sat in a booth, and we were served quickly and were not pressured to leave while we were waiting for our children to call from the airport to pick them up. I'm surprised it was not a lot more crowded, as the food is a bargain for the quality. I would definitely go back when I am in downtown Dallas.
Really good restaurant. Great food, service and live music.
Went there for Restaurant Week and thought the food was fantastic. Had their spinach shrimp enchiladas which were truly amazing. We will be back. Their sangria was the best I've had. Highly recommend them!
Very good Restaurant Week lunch menu. Excellent lunch menu
We return to RJ's Mexican every year to celebrate our accomplishments for the Mary Kay year. It's great service and great food!
Good service from when we walked in the door! Great food! Will be back!
Are server was great . It was very hot but later it got a bit cooler after asking for a/c.
While it was nice to find a Mexican restaurant that was able to accommodate a large party on Cinco de Mayo, I will probably not return. It was extremely crowded in the room that we were seated, back to back with another large party. It was very loud and because it was so crowded, I thought that the service was kind of lacking, or maybe just running behind. I don't remember the food being terrible, but it also was not anything that stood out to me either.
The food was good, the service was lacking. It took 15 mins for someone to even ask if we'd been approached by a server
Great location, great food and great out door patio. We totally enjoyed lunch and the perfect margaritas.
Overall great service from our waiter and very good food. Zero complaints.
Michael, my server, was friendly yet professional. I ordered the garlic shrimp, a dish that included chipotle. While the food was tasty, the chipotle overpowered the garlic. I have had garlic shrimp many places, including in Spain--never with chipotle. I ordered a dry Tito's martini. It was not dry. I mentioned this to Michael and said that if I ordered a second one, it needed to be dry. I did have a second one with the same ill prepared result. I feel that it was not really my server's fault, rather that of the bartender. Nonetheless, I believe that the customer's wishes should be respected. Should I return, I will insist on proper preparation.
Food was great. Had some different flavors then our group was use to. Staff was extremely friendly. Will definitely go back!!
We went to get some quick food at a great price.
Service was superb! Food was good. I would suggest some more basic entrees for those with a simpler pallet.
We arrived at the restaurant and found out that our reservation was cancelled. They did however accommodate our large group. The Margaritas were really good, I also enjoyed the chips and salsa. The food not so much. I was displeased that for our large group of 20+ people we only had one waiter. He had to take care of all of us, and I didn't think that was fair at all. He did have some help from another waitress at one point but by the end of the dinner it took 40 minutes to get our checks back. We arrived at the restaurant at 7:20 and ended up leaving a little past 10:00 pm.
A waiter also brought out a birthday dessert and thought it was okay to pick up a spoon full cool whip and smear it all over my friends face. It fell on her outfit and she had to wear a jacket for the rest of the night because the stain would not come out of her shirt.
We enjoyed Christmas Eve dinner here while visiting Texas. The atmosphere was perfect for a family celebration, beautifully decorated with quiet Christmas music playing. The food was excellent and everyone was very friendly and attentive.
