Riz Asian Kitchen - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Raymond and the rest of the staff were friendly and very accommodating and attentive. The atmosphere was pleasant and relaxing, and the lighting perfect. Being able to see outside at the hussel and bussel of rush hour pedestrians was interesting. The food we had was above average, although a touch pricey (it was Valentines Day) for us, we are retired and on a very fixed income. But, we had a very special time at your restaurant. We will definitely try to come back.
We were disappointed to find brunch was not available on Saturday, Jan 28th/17. The brunch menu is one of the best at Riz and needless to say, not the best experience that we had to choose an alternative to our poached eggs and toast.
The service is always very good at Riz and just wonder if the restaurant is trying to get rid of the brunch menu altogether. There will be a few customers lost if this is the case.
1) Apparently if you sit in the dining room, you're not allowed to partake of the happy hour promos.
2) The dining room waitress was less than gracious, just walking off on us when we were deciding whether to move to the bar area so that we could enjoy the happy hour promos... obviously we then decided to make the move since it was pretty clear we wouldn't receive good service in the dining area anyway.
3) The "small plates" (i.e. appetizers) were abysmal. I would never order any of them again. We were so relieved that they were happy hour promos & didn't end up paying full price for them.
1) Close to Rogers Place with complimentary parking, and a relatively speedy kitchen so great for eating before an event.
2) One of the off-service staff was super-attentive and helped us out when she noticed we didn't have menus while the bartender was busy.
2) Bartender was super-friendly, attentive & accommodating, allowing us to stay and chat while he cleaned up.
3) After very lacklustre appetizers, we decided to share a main, and chose the beef short ribs... this was actually quite lovely, tender & flavorful. The following desserts weren't amazing but were fairly decent... however, it was lovely that they gifted us with one as we were celebrating.
Pleasantly surprised by the good food. I had the cashew chicken and my friend had the chicken panini. We were both happy with our lunch. Server was a bit awkward but was trying his best. Will come back for sure. Oh and the place itself is beautiful with great decor.
Food was not anything special. They are trying to reach quite literally All Asian Cuisines in one place put it makes everything kind of washed out and not great. And although you walk through a hall full of wine bottles, they dont have any decent wine on there list. It wasn't overly busy and appy's were ordered 1st but entrees were attempted to be brought out 1st then returned to the kitchen so our appy's could be served. Need less to say I will not be returning anytime soon
I have been here before but was sadly disappointed this trip. Ordered the chow mien and the pad thai. Chicken was pink raw on three side of every piece in the pad thai, and the chow mien noodles were burnt black. They were not busy and the manager brought me my dish, there is no excuse to serve raw chicken to a customer. If they followed any normal kitchen process, the cook would check the work, then the head of the kitchen, then the server. Raw chicken should never be served in a restaurant.
We used to go to L'azia often and were sad when they closed. We tried Riz today for lunch in that same location and will never go back. We waited 50 minutes for our lunch to arrive and while we waited, we watched 5 other tables (who had arrived before us) ask for their food to go because they all couldn't wait any longer. One woman just got up and left without ever getting her meal. It was a gong show. Too bad. L'azia used to a great place for years but Riz won't be around long with such lousy service.
I went at lunch on a weekend so it was pretty quiet but my server was really friendly and helpful and the food was great. The wonton soup was flavourful and really hit the spot on a cold grey day and the lettuce wraps were messy but so good. Just don't order them if you're trying to impress someone haha! The prices are good and the portion sizes are pretty big (I was scoping out my neighbours' dishes and they were beautifully presented too!) I liked this restaurant when it was Lazia and so far I'm liking Riz as well.
Riz offers fine food choices especially the Asian dishes which are our favourites. The noise level was very high on Saturday night and almost spoiled our evening, but, Darren, the bartender and server who has been with this restaurant for several years, came to our rescue and seated us in the wine room which was exceptional. Darren is an outstanding staff member who truly knows and understands his clientele. He is an exceptionally polite people person who remembers the wine we like and pays attention to detail. Because of him, we come back to Riz even though it is often noisy in the evenings.
Very disappointed in the service and the food myself and my guest both had the Caesar Salad I with Chicken and my guest with out. Salads were delivered with out chicken and to the wrong person.
Front end hostess is very loud when you come in and her shouting at the waitress to do this and go here was very annoying she needs to calm down. Would I go back again yes and no. Yes to try other parts of the menu NO for the service...It was not our waitress fault she was doing the best she could with what she had to work with.
Went to Riz Asian Kitchen before when it was still called Lazia and had an overall great experience. However, our experience this time was sub par. I appreciated how the food was a great variation of fusion and was not greasy or too flavourful, but the wait for the food was unacceptable. My daughter and I made a reservation at 12pm and arrived there on time. We were placed in a cramped spot in corner against a big white wall. Beside us was a huge table of guests which made it even more cramped. We ordered our food at around 12:10 and our food didn't arrive until after 1:00. We almost got up abd left at 1:00. During the hour long wait we went to check on our food with our waiter who quickly said "I am getting on it" before quickly walking away and afterwards avoided eye contact with us when she passed us by. There was also a customer who came in 30 min after us and ordered the same dish as my daughter who was served the dish before us even though we ordered first. Furthermore, we were even served by the same waiter! Finally, when we finished our meal and got the leftovers packed up since we we're already in a hurry after waiting for an hour our food, the manager proceeded to give us a wrinkly "Save on Foods " bag for us to put our leftover food box in. Overall terrible service and unorganized team working. The food was good but the customer service and the loud noise level really kills it.
We ate here before attending the symphony. The food was delicious, the charming server very attentive and our food was prepared in a timely mannre. We were, however, disappointed by the numerous TV's which filled the entire area. This feature takes away from the ambiance of eating out.
