About Rivoli Restaurant
The garden setting; attentive service; seasonal food sourced from local markets; line-caught fish and naturally raised meats. These are the building blocks of a great restaurant. But for Rivoli we mean to provide a bit more. Our inspiration comes from the root source of the word restaurant – to restore. To dine at Rivoli is to come away with a renewed faith in good works and life.
For a generation, Rivoli has promoted the singular talents of our Chef. The frequently changing menu is inspired by the bounty of the seasons and composed with a basic love of good food. Our Mid-Century Modern décor will slow the pace of your evening. Our intuitive service will indulge you. Enjoy a little respite from your day. We hope to see you soon at Rivoli.

Rivoli Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I have dined at Rivoli for years and held it up as one of my favorites in the Bay Area. However, this meal was a disappointment. I understand the owner/chef was not in the kitchen and hope that is the root cause. I’ve had some very good meals at Rivoli!!!!
We took friends here, moving from St. Louis to the Bay Area. The experience was delightful as it always has been at Rivoli. The food is delicious and creative (and thanks for keeping the grilled portobellos on the menu). The service is terrific.
Came to Rivoli with my wife for dinner prior to a play at the Berkeley Rep Theatre- "Ain't to Proud". We were their Friday, October 13, 2017. During the meal and after the meal we both commented several times that we had made a great choice in coming to Rivoli.
Outstanding food. Creative flavorful dishes. Great presentation. Very attentive, friendly and personable staff. Overall great dining experience.
Would highly recommend. Have added to our "Go to" Restaurant List and look forward to enjoying another meal at Rivoli the next time we're near Berkeley!
It was our first time there and we were celebrating an anniversary! On the way to our table we were greated enthusiastically by the host and everyone we passed, including the wait staff, cook, etc. When we got to our table there were little Happy Anniversary decals all over our table! Our waiter was great, conversational but not overbearing. Finally, the food and wine were exceptional! Many thanks to Rivioli for helping to make our anniversary very special! I plan to go back, and recommend it to all.
Good but not great.
3 diners-Friday--$365.99 Packed/noisy.
Aps: Deviled Egg-Oyster-Tartare Toast-3$ each-ordered 3 of each
Oyster small and you could not taste the mignonette sauce on it. Eggs-get real-I can buy 18 eggs for $2-Tartare Toast-good / small
Salad Course- Caesar-$14--good--Peach Salad $15- ok--Fritter-$15--overrated-just a deep fried fritter that lacked great flavor-Not worth ordering Salads are over priced as well.
So far we are in $71. without the cocktails and wine
Entrees: Bone in Pork Chop-very good-cooked just right but $32 each-I just bought two at Nugget that were just as good and just as thick for $10
Ravioli-$28-ouch-excellent but just a sheet of pasta with a great sauce.Food cost on this item is maybe $1
Desert-Hot Fudge Sundae-just ordinary-no wow facto -and Pot de Creme- good/small. Each $10
Wine: Folk Tree Cab-$48-good--no reasonably priced wines on menu.
Cocktails: 6 Martinis $88-very small in old fashioned champagne glasses--olive with seed in it--broken tooth on its' way for an uninformed guest! They don't carry Bombay Sapphire--waiter made a dumb comment that we don't spend per time googling what kind of Gin to carry!!!
Now for the bad news: Server was SZYMON.while his service was pretty good--he has no social or sales skills. Never asked us if we had any questions on menu. We asked a few questions and he gave us a very brief, ininconclusive response and basically said everything is good. Had to ask for a few things that we had to wait for a long time. I basically took over as to when to order aps, salads more drinks and wine. I did tip 15%.
Would I go back--probably not. I am not from the area but would certainly choose Wood Tavern first. The menu is too short so not a lot of options. I know they want everything to be great by having a small menu but on some of the items of items, they did not come thru.
I know good food and service and in this case I was not satisfied but I wish you continued success.
Have gone to Rivoli many times over the years, and they have never disappointed. Wonderful dining room setting with the entire back wall a glassed in view of their beautiful garden. Very romantic! And the food! Oh! Chef Wendy and her kitchen crew are consistently fabulous. Highly, highly recommended.
The food at this little restaurant is delicious. The service is professional and just the right amount of "friendly ". It's easy to have a conversation as the acoustics are good. Great for a dinner for 2 or a few more. This is my go-to restaurant when I want it to be special.
We love the ambience both of the dining room and view to the garden. Food is yummy, portions are "just enough" and beautifully plated. Small menu but sufficient choice and very creative flavor/texture mixes. Service is professional and efficient but very friendly by all, from bartender at door to hostess to wait staff and servers of all functions. For this meal, swordfish was tasty but just "slightly" more cooked than my own preference...that said, I didn't leave a single morsel on the plate!!
Rivoli remains one of our two "go-to" restaurants for special occasions. Loved the "Walk in the Woods" cocktail, just perfect for a somewhat overcast mid-August evening in Berkeley. And we'll be back!!
The service here was terrific, which is really nice to have when you are out for a special occasion. Unfortunately the food did not deliver. The "saffron paella" did not seem to contain any saffron and did not much resemble paella. It did contain some lovely fresh peas. The duck dish was far too sweet and floral, so difficult to enjoy. The salad was overdressed and dull at the same time; the portabella fritters were good. The deviled eggs tastes mostly of Dijon mustard. My husband thinks they were trying to be too "experimental". That being said, if you are not too concerned with the cuisine, the place is lovely and the people who work there are wonderful. They will do their best to make sure you have a nice dining experience.
Our appetizers of the sweet corn soup and fig gnocchi were over the top --we then both chose the chicken 2 ways which was great --wanted the scallops but they had already run out. we will definitely be back to this neighborhood gem!!
This was a splurge birthday dinner. It was a week night, which I would recommend, because the restaurant was quieter. The place is expensive so be prepared. The menu is short, maybe too
short, but we found things we liked. I had the scallops that were delicious. The waiters (all men) were truly excellent and helpful.
Came to celebrate a friend's 60th and had a lovely meal. Staff was courteous and attentive. Space is a bit crowded, hence one star short of perfect. The food was delicious. Our entire party raved over their choices for flavor. My pork chop was cooked just right with outer surface grilled and crisp with inner moist & juicy. The dark chocolate cake with espresso ice cream was divine. Always a favorite spot for a special night!
The cuisine was memorable - - each entree presented with a distinctive blend of ingredients, unusual, creative, and delicious - - so right to enhance the featured meat or fish. Our party of 3 found each of our 3 selections delicious! And Rivoli was the prime restaurant to celebrate our two family birthdays.
Our table was next to the window looking out at an inviting green garden of trees and scrubs; the only downside was the high noise level of guests enjoying good food and company.
Excellent experience. Had reservations for 730 and we were seated as soon as we got there. A little surprised at the noise level, but ended up being okay. Excellent service. Never had to ask for anything. The waitstaff are very well trained. The food was delicious. Deviled eggs, fried portabellos, Cesar salad, scallops and salmon all done to perfection. The corn soup was amazing. Tasted better than a fresh ear of corn. And the Garden. So lovely. We will definitely be back!
Amazing neighborhood restaurant with a lovely garden and attentive staff. The food was delicious in every way. I had the seared scallops and my husband had the pork chop. Both cooked perfectly. Very nice that we shared a romaine salad and they served it on two plates!!
