We had a wonderful birthday celebration meal here. When our reservation time could not be honored because the table had not cleared, we pushed tables in the bar area together and had a fantastic meal with extraordinary service! We will return for a main dining room dinner as soon as we are able, but it is hard to imagine a better experience than we have already had.
The goat cheese soufflé was exquisite, as was the Dungeness crab risotto. There were clean plates and empty glasses all around.
Recently went to Rivoli for my birthday and my expectations were met around every corner whether it was the Steak Tartare appetizer or the Dungenss Crab Risotto. Being a huge fan of their sister restaurant CORSO TRATTORIA, it was time to try Rivoli. The best way to describe my experience is a lot like the deviled eggs on their appetizer menu. A simple food enhanced by the flavors of pancetta crumbles, a sweet and a slightly spicy pepper coulis bringing all aspects of my palate into play. The ambience satisfied me in the sense that I could have a private quiet conversation with my partner or could share a few laughs with my server. Rivoli in my eyes is the complete package. Exceeding my expectations in every category. Truly one of the last gems on Solano Ave.
Great staff and attention.
Great food with lovely presentation. The staff are warm, friendly and very pleasant. The ambiance is cozy with a beautiful green garden .
Superb. Better now than a couple years ago.
Whenever we dine with you, it's a pleasure. Service has always been great; this time was no exception...in fact, it may have been at its very best! Food always excellent and the atmosphere always feels like it's a special occasion. Thank you.
Fun spot great food
The food and service were both outstanding. There was one cocktail and one wine order and both were great. Very friendly.
We had an amazing time- great food, great wine, attentive service in a beautiful setting. The *only* thing that was wrong was my lemon pot de creme- it tasted like I could have bought it from the store. But everything else was perfect- I would highly recommend the Goat Cheese Soufflé and the Crab Risotto- I’ve craved both every day since I tasted them!
Service was excellent from the time we entered to the time we left. The restaurant is small so the tables are fairly close together. They have a wonderful view of the garden in the back which definitely helps make the dining room seem larger. The food was well prepared and well presented . Portions were adequate so value was good. They ask if we are going to share entrees so they actually split one entree for us. Again, service was excellent. The dishes were delicious and we had no complaints. We will go again.
I know that the management is trying to attract a younger crowd, but last night showed that they have gone too far in the opposite direction. There were two men in the dining room wearing baseball hats! I said something to the manager on the way out, and he said that it was out of his hands--the owners did not want to set standards. What is next--shirtless diners? The food has also declined. First of all, there are only 4 entree choices. We started with the burrata, which was a pitifully small portion, mostly croutons, with a sickly sweet sauce. Hardly Italian. The ravioli was undistinguished and the sunchoke soup quickly became cold. The prices have escalated beyond comprehension for mediocre fare. Rivoli is back on my do not patronize list.
As usual, our visit to Rivoli was wonderful. Excellent food, fast service!
I made this reservation based on OT reviews and this came up trumps. Just top notch all around there wasn't a bad plate in the group of 6 from the bites to desert
Fantastic dinner at Rivoli for a birthday celebration. Service was great, food was perfectly prepared and very flavorful. Shrimp dish exploded with flavor and the burrata salad was one of the best salads I have had. This is worth a trip back, probably multiple trips back.
Brilliant, as ever!
Took my mother-in-law here for her 79th birthday. When we arrived, our table had "happy birthday" confetti on it. She loved it. The food was very good and the service was prompt and friendly. We will definitely be back.
Our dinner, on the occasion of my husband's 70th birthday, was really special. The food was absolutely fantastic and the service was excellent.
Lovely, friendly staff, from Roscoe to waitstaff to chefs. Almost like home. Food is terrific, whether veggie, fish, meat, salad, dessert. Fried mushrooms dish is to die for--get it every time we visit!
Always a pleasure dining here. Standards for food, beverages & service are consistently high. Roscoe & Wendy are experienced and it shows, Berkeley legends.
We went for Valentines Day so there was a special menu. The lobster soufflé, scallops with risotto, and dessert were all excellent. This is my favorite restaurant without a doubt. It is pretty pricey but worth it for occasional fancy dinners.
The service at Rivoli is excellent and friendly. Our meals were good but not as tasty as the last time we had dinner here. The dessert is always excellent. Rivoli is an intimate setting with an atrium that adds to the ambiance.
Having not been impressed with our last visit, we haven’t been to Rivoli for the last few years. We had a fabulous meal. The rack of lamb was as good as any I can remember. My wife scallops which were fabulous. Shared the little gym salad which was very good as was the deviled egg appetizer.
Rivoli is our favorite restaurant. The food is exquisite and the service is great. Wendy is an amazing chef
Rivoli is back! The food was brilliant — particularly the Ricotta Gnocchi and the Gateaux Basque. Service was outstanding.
Fantastic , inventive dishes! Excellent wine list & service!
We went there for our anniversary dinner. We were quite pleased with the service as well as the food. Our waiter was quite knowledgeable about the food and provided great suggestions. The exceptional dishes that we ordered were the steak tartare, ricotta gnocchi, rack of lamb, duck x 2 and the Bastille Gateau. Actually, the only item that wasn't exceptional was the deviled eggs. We are looking forward to going back again.
For: Dates and small gatherings.
Recommend: The menu is seasonal and it was the V-Day weekend. All the dishes we had were excellent. The salmon was perfect, and the scallops were silky. (We were feeling "seafoody" today). On an interesting note the deviled egg was super smooth, and the kusshi oyster with a touch of asian pear mignonette was just right.
Service: Excellent, quick prompt and informing. James was funny, and the manager was awesome.
In My Opinion: Everything was balanced, I did not have wine this time however the dishes will come alive with some parings.
Great little neighborhood gem with very attentive service, excellent cocktails and delicious food, prepared with great attention to detail.
I love Rivoli’s ambience. It’s tasteful, serene, elegant w/o any pomposity. Our server was delightful; the kitchen staff smiles in welcome as you pass through to your table. We had all the small bites, the portobello fritters, the lobster soufflé, and the asparagus lasagna. Every dish, including the bread, wine & aperitif were spot on and delicious. We couldn’t fit in any dessert!
We've eaten at Rivoli many times but on this occasion the food was just not up to par.
Such a wonderful restaurant. Excellent food and outstanding service. Menu items change about every three weeks and never disappoints. Is more pricey then a place I would normally go but worth every penny. Great for a special occasion or a random splurge. They have a huge wall to wall picture window that looks into a garden.
Our server was outstanding, professional and friendly.
We always have an outstanding meal at Rivoli. The staff is attentive and will always try to please their customers. I highly recommend.
Well built place, great food and atmosphere. Nothing to complain about in terms of price point.
I was stunned by the decline in both the quality and quantity of food. My main dish of gulf shrimp was $32 and the size of a moderate appetizer. It was luke warm, the shrimp were small and somewhat overlooked and the accompanying vegetables could be consumed in 2 small bites. I hadn't been to Rivoli in a couple of years but had remembered it as a terrific restaurant. Bad night? Downward trajectory? Clearly the pricing for what you get is an outrage compared to say Oliveto, Chez Panise Cafe, etc
It was my moms birthday. The food was excellent and our waiter was very informative and friendly. We loved everything we got!
Rivoli lived up to its reputation tonight. We were not disappointed by the food or the service 😊
Ravioli was too rich, neither of us able to finish. Food presentation was average. Great seating next to the garden. Excellent wait staff, all very courteous!
We went for New Years and had one of the best meals we’ve had in years. Impeccable service, too!
