For twenty seven years, Rivoli has promoted the singular culinary talents of Berkeley native Wendy Brucker. The frequently changing menu is inspired by the bounty of the seasons and composed with a basic love of good food. Our Mid-Century Modern décor will slow the pace of your evening. Our intuitive service will indulge you. Enjoy a little respite from your day. We hope to see you soon at Rivoli.
saffron risotto, romesco, mint chutney
burnt apple, marconas, sage
I like this place a lot. I just wish the portions were a bit smaller so I didn't waste food.
as always, food and service were wonderful, which is what i just answered! so please stop demanding (!!) thanks
The food was marvelous but the noise from all the talkers was not good for me with a hearing aid. The wine list was extensive, expensive but very good
Food was excellent as always. We were a party of 5. I was disappointed that our waiter (who complained about the number of tables he had to serve) was grouchy and not able to fulfill some of our requests. It was my birthday and this year there were no "happy birthdays" on the table; did you decide not to do that anymore? I asked for a champagne cocktail with extra bitters. It was exactly the same color as a friend's who did not want extra bitters. Then someone took it away and I saw that it sat beside a plastic dirty-dish container for a long while until I asked again. It came back just slightly pinker and I gave up on asking for more bitters. We had wanted the "Bites" and "Appetizers" to arrive with our drinks but they came much later. The dessert that another friend and I shared came with two plates (which was good) but no knife to cut it. I managed with a fork rather than bother the waiter any further. Clearly the waiter was harried but it made my birthday occasion significantly less delightful than I've come to expect from Rivoli. The noise level has never been an issue before but it was on Sunday night (3/8/20, 7 pm reservation) . None of this will stop me returning - just saying it wasn't up to your usual standards. The place is beautiful, the wait staff are friendly and the food is delicious. Can't do any better than Rivoli!
Best neighborhood restaurant in a town full of good ones. The duck two ways and lobster risotto might be their peak dishes ever. Friendly folks, great dining.
Excellent food, excellent wine, great service.
Rivoli is our place to go on special occasions. (It's too expensive to go there all the time, or we would.) Their food and beverages are always delicious and fresh, fresh, fresh. Don't miss the mushroom fritters appetizer and don't skip dessert. Even the bread and butter is delectable. The service is exquisite--friendly and discreet.
Terrific experience. Second time visitors to Berkeley. Targeting Rivoli for each visit. Too good to pass up.
What a lovely meal, in a lovely room that was full of lively conversation, yet not so loud that we couldn’t hear one another. The food was just delicious, perfectly sized portions prepared to flavorful perfection. The service was exemplary, honestly the best we have had in years. The staff had such professional skill, anticipating our needs and deftly providing without interrupting our eating or conversation. The smaller space doesn’t feel confining thanks to a beautiful window overlooking a gorgeous garden which makes it feel like you are dining in an atrium. We had such a perfect evening at Rivoli, we can’t wait to go back and are recommending it to everyone we know!
This is a favorite restaurant, having had many wonderful meals over many years.
It can get loud but was not on this occasion.
Service provider seemed distracted a bit, running off in the midst of a conversation with us
without explanation. The portabello fritters are a must and the lobster risotto is quite wonderful.
Excellent deserts. The evening was special for us, unhurried, with lively guests and excellent food and wine.
consistently delicious and excellent service. can get noisy at orime dining times
As a very satisfied customer at Rivoli since they opened 25 (?) years ago, I found the high quality of their food hasn't changed. The ambiance is still pleasant, there are enough servers to see to everyone's needs, and the mushroom fritters are as wonderfully tasty as they were the first time my husband and I ordered them all those years ago. Rivoli was always and still is one of the best restaurants in the Bay Area.
This restaurant is so good we went twice in a week! They change the menu every three weeks and we do our best to drop in. This time we were so intrigued by the choices we had to go twice in this menu cycle and were not disappointed. Professional staff serves amazing food. Can’t beat it.
Articoke soup, lobster risotto, wine and service excellent. One dish and dessert just ok.
Rivoli is my favorite restaurant to go to as a special treat for special friends....for birthdays, special occasions or because I want my friends to have an extraordinary eating experience in all aspects. I've never had a bad meal at Rivoli and the staff is most gracious, warm, and professional.
Great food, especially the lobster risotto. We especially enjoy the service by Tiffanee.
Rivoli is an East Bay treasure. Professional servers orchestrate a delightful evening. Food is simple but so well executed. Love our nights at Rivoli.
Friendly excellent service with a small but excellent menu. The only detraction was the extended use of a laptop at the next table. Crab Risotto and Cannelloni were both excellent.
Wonderful prix fix menu, tasty and well presented. Wsit staff vrry attentive
The Valentine's Day dining experience was typically top drawer as Rivoli seldom lets us down. We were in the first tier of seating which was good as it would be expected that some of the menu items would be gone later in the evening. Christopher B. was attuned to our needs without hovering. The meal was delightful from oyster to sundae. The best Negroni in the Bay Area. We are spoiled by this neighborhood gem of a restaurant.
This was our Valentine's dinner and it was great. The menu selections were very interesting and our waiter Henry is just great. The Rivoli garden is in full bloom. A surprise addition, house-made gluten free bread that was delicious. All in all, just a great evening!
Great service and food. Nice setting. Always our choice for biz/social dining.
Everything was exceptional!
Great spot. Small, great service along with outstanding food. One of the best restaurants I have eaten at this year. The staff was friendly and helpful with recommendations. Wonderful experience. Thanks!
Great as always!
It is a very loud room when all tables are filled so it can be hard to hear people at one’s table. The food was delicious, beyond compare.
The beauty of the manicured garden windows were striking and an unexpected treat. The filet was prepared perfectly but duck was underdone. Somewhat noisy. The service was spectacular and worth the cost.
This is the most outstanding restaurant in Berkeley, ideal for a special occasion. The lobster risotto was fantastic. I give this place my highest endorsement.
It is a very beautiful restaurant, but the food is just OK. Nothing really extraordinary. Many better choices in Oakland.
Fresh food with interesting flavor combinations. Haven’t been disappointed yet
It was perfect in every way!
Rivoli is my favorite local restaurant. The food, menu and service are consistently outstanding.
Everything seemed to be done without energy or imagination
Great food! You can have a conversation with your companions and be able to hear each other.
Delicious food and fabulous service. Thank you!
It was a wonderful evening, sharing a 4-top with three great friends. Excellent food and gracious, attentive service.
Granted it was a Saturday evening. But we had to wait 45 minutes after the time of our reservation. The receptionists were, for what it was worth, very apologetic.
Also, there was, off and on, quite a cool temperature in the dining room. My dining companions noticed it as well. I was OK when I put on my (outdoor) coat. But, I'd rather it was consistently a comfortable temperature.
Fantastic food, outstanding ambiance, and stellar service made for a great anniversary dinner. The steak tartare was my favorite!
Rivoli always offers a vegetarian entree as its first least expensive entree. It is always magnificent. Last night I enjoyed raviolis which were stunning in their delicacy and flavor. The Rivoli menu changes monthly and my wife and I intend to return a couple of times before the offerings change.
