Service was excellent. Very attentive without being intrusive. Food was very good. Cocktails were excellent. Great wine list. All a bit pricey. Setting was very hip.
The food and service were excellent. The food was very good and the neauveu restaurant style ( free pour of wine at the table) is refreshing while the service staff were professional and friendly. Will certainly return to try some other dishes.
I visited Riviera for the first time with a colleague and enjoyed the food, ambiance and service immensely. Our server recommended a wonderful wine for tasting, which we in turn ordered and the portion size was perfect. We left very content and looking forward to the rest of the afternoon!
Designed beautifully inside an old bank on Sparks Street, Riviera does have a great atmosphere complemented with a great staff. From start to finish the staff was very attentive however toward the end of the meal it seemed we were forgotten about. Getting more staff attentiveness toward the end of the meal would have made us buy dessert but once they took so long we decided against it.
Mushrooms on toast was overrated. I feel like a sous vide egg should be a little more firm than what we received. Could have used something more such as a protein and toward the end of it we were getting sick of the taste of mushrooms. The rest of the meal was excellent. I really recommend the clam chowder and steak en frites. I've had better carbonara in Ottawa before and a better portion, however the flavors were still good.
I would go to Riviera again however it'll be quite a while so I can experience a menu change. Similar to other restaurants by the owner (El Camino, Datsun) the prices are a little higher than you'd expect.
We loved Riviera! The service was top class and the food was INCREDIBLE.
After hearing rave reviews for Riviera, I was excited to finally try this restaurant. My husband and I went with another couple - I know the other couple often dine at Riviera. We started with the tuna crudo, beef tartare, a scallop ceviche-type dish, mushrooms on toast and grilled octopus to share. The beef tartare was tasty, but my husband and I found the other starts were bland, not flavourful - just not special at all. We shared three mains: striploin steak frites, the rabbit and the halibut (caught fresh that day). Again, my husband and I were disappointed, the taste was just not memorable. The bar is very impressive and the mixologists are very creative. I had the Aviation which was a lovely lemon flavour, sweet and tart at the same time. We had 2-1/2 bottles of wine - the wine selection was very good. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice and very energetic.
All in all, there was nothing my husband and I tried that evening that made us want to return for a second meal.
Our anniversary dinner at Riviera was truly spectacular! I highly recommend it!
Great food that was fresh, perfectly prepared and not fussily complicated. Service was also excellent but discrete. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates good food, wine and service.
Best restaurant in Ottawa by far. Food and service is top notch.
Probably the best server I’ve ever had. Right down to describing the tasting notes of the gin in my martini. Incredible. Amazing menu. Over the top creativity and attention to detail.
This was my second time here and i enjoyed it just as much as the first! The service is really excellent here . The staff are attentive and well informed about the menu. The food is good- I had the duck ham the first time which was phenomenal and the bouillabaisse the second time which was good but i didn't really understand the toast with hummus (felt out of place). I've had a number of their appetizers and they were all quite nice. The ambiance is quite striking and will not disappoint anyone. They also have an amazing cocktail menu with fantastic drinks. I recommend this place for a special dinner and night out.
Fantastic food and service. Yes it’s a bit overpriced, but well worth it for the quality of food and service. One of the best restaurants in Canada.
First time in Ottawa and we were looking for the best restaurants and we sure found one. Food, service, drinks were all great. Will be back for sure next time we're in Ottawa.
The overall experience was good, the music playing overhead made it very difficult to have conversation.
Très bonne cuisine. Le met à ne pas manqué est sans hésitation Champignon sur toast. Ne vous laissez pas influencer par cette description. C'est sublime. Il est à noter qu'il est preferable de partager cette entrée car c'est une tres grande portion.
Overall, this was a disappointment. The food is creative and uses excellent ingredients, but most of our party found the dishes over-salted. This is a common problem even in top restaurants but one I find highly irritating -- for Ottawa, this is top dollar and if the only way they can get flavour is by lashing everything with salt then I'm not impressed. The dishes I chose would be naturally salty (seafood chowder, pancetta based pasta), but there's no reason a mushrooms dish needs to be that way -- and by the end my companion could hardly finish it. The jus in the steak frites was similarly inedible. Desserts were good. Service was a bit rushed, and for no apparent reason. I'm not sure how Riviera comes by its high-flying reputation and I don't feel that I spent my money wisely.
The service and food was very good, unfortunately it was way too noisy. Both music and the noise level made it very loud for my friend and I to have a good conversation.
Service was excellent. Really enjoyed my meal and cocktail, which was almost too pretty to drink :)
Very pleasant evening, good food, good wine, and good bartender advises.
Service was great, but food was nothing special and not as described on the menu (wedge salad had mayo instead of bagna cauda; bouillabaisse was one-note taste of fennel...). It was disappointing overall, as we read good reviews. Seems it's just a well-staffed cafeteria for people who want to avoid dining with anyone but the wealthy.
I alerted the staff of my food allergies, and they quickly brought over a personalized copy of the full menu, detailed with what I could have, what I could not, and what could be adapted by the chef to suit me. Amazing attention to detail, and I'm grateful. Thanks very much. We'll be back.
Marc was amazing and took great care of us on our anniversary. Great food and great staff. I love to look of this restaurant.
Your have to try the seafood tower !! Great experience! The building has an amazing history.
Service is excellent. Staff is very attentive !
We have eaten at Riviera a number of times. The service and food has always been excellent.
Next time I hope they have something with chocolate for dessert.
Excellent, long past due-and lovingly welcome. A delightful anniversary experience, one I would very much like to repeat.
Exquisite food, beautifully presented-lots of menu choices, but I went with the classic steak frites. My wife sealed over the lobster spaghetti!
A treat, on several levels-go, enjoy-tell your friends...
Server was great and wished my girlfriend a happy birthday multiple times. The candle on the doughnut really made her feel special! The food was delicious and lived up to the hype. Will definitely be returning!
Food was excellent. But would like to see a wider variety for lunch menu.
This is my second time business luncheon at the restaurant - Noise level (music) was too loud (again). Not very condusive for business conversations.
Excellent hand-crafted cocktails - one of the best martinis I've ever had. Mr. Flood's cocktail list was very unique and each one tasted fantastic. Food was excellent and portion sizes were great. Service very attentive and never lacked. Excellent visit and can't recommend it enough.
This was our fifth time back at Riviera. We invited a guest from Toronto who is a real foodie and he loved it as did we. Our food and service were excellent. However, given the number of people who bring business contacts or political colleagues to this restaurant quite often, I would recommend a "plat du jour" to add some variety.
We have been to Riviera many times and this was a somewhat disappointing experience especially from a service perspective. We have had great service for dinner reservations on Saturdays and during the week for lunch. Unfortunately in mid week for dinner our server was so completely disinterested it bordered on rude. He never bothered to enquire if we were enjoying our main course or if anything was needed. The food was also disappointing compared to previous experiences. I ordered the Salmon appetizer with endives and sea asparagus which I have enjoyed previously but it was extremely bland and tasteless as if any of the seasoning ingredients had been missed completely. My friend had the mushroom toast and thought it was very good. For the main course we ordered the orecchiette carbonara with guanciale and shitake and both found it too salty although the pasta was perfectly cooked. Perhaps this was an off night but it was disappointing especially from a service perspective.
The Riviera far exceeded our expectations for cuisine, service and ambiance. We wish we lived in Ottawa to visit the Riviera more often. We will definitely make the four hour drive occasionally just for an evening there. Kudos to the service staff and chefs!
Second time to Rivera was not impressed with the service or the meal the food had its moments but just finished weak!
My son is visiting from Japan and he researches the restaurants he would like to dine at. This visit, one of the restaurants he chose was RIVIERA. I have had lunch there a number of times and always enjoyed it - but dinner - WOW. A most wonderfull experience ! We were warmly greeted and had a nice table as I had requested on my reservation - our outstanding waitress even referred to my son being here from Japan (I had mentioned it on my resetvation). I had requested a special cocktail and the bar tender came over to the table to make sure he understood how to prepare it and the vemouth he recomended was excellent. The appetizers and the meal were exceptional and the chef prepared my main course with some adjustments I had asked for. Our waitress (I am sorry I did not get her name) was wonderful with a great sense of humor and we received amazing and attentive service. I could go on and on - needless to say we will be back ! Thank you for s fabulous dining experience.
Great food and wonderful service! Loved our waitress. Very knowledgable and friendly.
Mushroom toast egg undercooked. Seafood undercooked. Waiter with wrong gluten free information.
One of my favourite restaurants in the city although my drink that was recommended I did not like , Also the desert that was recommended creme caramel I also did not enjoy because it had a weird flavour to it not the regular Crème caramel
I had a hard time eating it although I didn’t complain it was my birthday and my friends suggested I have a drink and a dessert even though I didn’t want to
I paid my own bill so a bit disappointed The fries were fantastic It isstill a great place
Venue was beautiful.
Food amazing (particularly the parfait and the bouillabaisse) but service was a bit lacking - especially considering the price point. Waited 20mins to order a drink, asked 3 times if we could speak to the sommelier and 3 times for plain bread for my daughter who is allergic to egg. When you're paying top $ just expect a higher level of attentiveness - especially when you're wanting to buy bottles of wine!
We had a wonderful meal at Riviera. Our waiter was exceptional, knledgeable and was attentive to three severe allergies. Our main dishes were delicious however the cherry donut was very odd tasting.
Very good cocktails. Delicious and original food. Great service. Can be a little noisy. Expensive but good for a special occasion.
Fabulous, as always!
