Riverview Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We had a Groupon for the 4-Course Chef’s Menu. We both had the caprese salad, clam chowder and creme brûlée - all were excellent. My wife had the chicken entree and I had the brisket - we thoroughly enjoyed them.
The service was great, too.
We’ll be back - probably for St. Valentine’s Day.
This was our first visit and we used a groupon which was a great deal for a wonderful dinner, but we will go back as everything was so delicious. We got the 4 course set menu but still had choices. The mistake we made was ordering heavy appetizer and chowder rather than salad so we were full by the time the main course came. Still the steak was perfect and we took most of it home for dinner the next night. Lovely atmosphere and great service.
Food was good but main course was disappointing for the price. Expected something thoughtfully crafted, not a previously frozen 4oz chicken breast predictably seasoned with a spice blend lifted from the dollar store.
Some parts of the restaurant felt unfinished, like it was hastily pulled together for the evening.
We went to the Riverview on New Years Eve. We got right in and were seated, at the time (7:45) we got there they were pretty much full. It took a few bit to get a drink ordered but our party wasnt there yet. They were only serving a limited menu, we enjoy the regular menu as the food is fresh and warm. The filo apps were dry that I had and it looked like everyone elses were also, they had probably been sitting on a pan all evening as they made everything in advance it seemed. The kobe beef was a bit dry and I had it medium rare. They charge plenty for dinner so I am not sure why they just dont do what got them where they are. The regular menu is so much better. We wont be going back for anything with the limited menu.
We made our annual New Year's Eve dinner plans on the Open Table app for the Riverview Restaurant. We received a phone message the day before our reservation and were informed there would only be a special menu and no options from their regular menu. I was a little disappointed based on how diverse the regular menu was and we were looking forward to trying some great sounding meals.
Upon arriving at the restaurant we were greeted by a friendly hostess and promptly seated at a table. The restaurant is beautiful in a very Pacific NW way. Exposed timbers, fireplace, beautiful windows overlooking the river. The noise level was a little excessive but I'm sure it was partly due to the holiday chatter and a full restaurant.
The waiter was friendly and helpful but a little overwhelmed due to the volume of patrons. We ordered and enjoyed some conversation while waiting for the first course. I was a little worried when I saw the first course due to the minimal size but the flavor was good. The second and third courses (wedge salad, chicken, and salmon) were great tasting and we finished off with some wonderful desserts (bread pudding, red velvet cake, and creme brulee).
Overall, we were happy with the atmosphere, food, and service. I would like to go back and try something from the regular menu next time and see if it tastes as good as it looks.
New Years Eve. Moderately busy but had reservations so seated immediately. Limited menu because of the holiday but contained our favorites (Salmon and Butternut Squash Ravioli) and as usual was very good (have never had a bad meal here). Service was only Fair, hovered sometimes and nowhere to be found when we needed something. Nothing that will keep us from going back, "our" place for special occasions and/or cut-above dining out.
Our experience at the Riverview Restaurant was excellent. We had a reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. The servers were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about menu items. Our beverages and food arrived in a timely manner and didn’t disappoint. Not once did we feel rushed or pressured to about anything. The prices were within the range of expectations. All things said, a great dining experience.
Prix-fixe Thanksgiving dinner. Food was okay, but very inconsistent from one plate to the next.
Menu said, sirlion, but we were served prime-rib.
Guitar player was good.
We had a large party. Waiter was well-meaning, but extremely slow and forgetful. We spoke to the Manager, who apologized and waived the 20% service charge - which was appreciated.
Very disappointing. The kitchen destroyed not one, but two, Kobe top sirloin steaks. The first one was over-cooked -- ordered medium-rare, served medium-well and also came with a sauce that was specifically requested to be held. The replacement was a disgusting cut with a large tendon running through the center, and carelessly overcooked as well. The service was however, commendable. They did not charge us for the steak. Nevertheless, it was a relatively simple order at a restaurant with a medium-high price tag and a respectable reputation.
We will not be returning, nor can we recommend this restaurant to friends or visitors. With the understanding that our city is becoming one of the food centers in the country, The Riverview needs to straighten out a kitchen that cannot deliver a simple steak or they will not survive against the level of cuisine being offered throughout the Portland area.
Food and atmosphere was pretty good. The server somehow ignored my table. Maybe he was more interested in serving white customers. My glass was empty for 20 minutes, and finally I had to ask for a refill. No napkin was provided, and I had to use napkins on the next table. I would not recommend it unless there is a promotion.
Came due to their GroupOn so the meal was somewhat fixed 4-course dinner with a couple choices at each course. We will be back! Brian did a terrific job of making some recommendations for wine and serving us and we will ask for him by name in the future. Special props to their bar as they had Fort George Cavatica Stout on tap (fantastic beer) and a couple other nice choices to boot.
Have been to this restaurant 7 times before and referred many of our friends. Sunday eve our experience was not like the usual great food or service. 40 Min between courses, no salt or pepper on the table and we weren't asked if we want fresh ground pepper on our salads. Our waiter disappeared for over 3o minutes so hard to get service. The ravioli was drenched in oil and like leather on the bottom from sitting too long on the hot plate. And the chocolate cake which we took home was in 3 pieces. Not sure if they were understaffed or what because this was unusual. If this had been our first time there we would not return. However, we will return once more and hope for a better outcome.
This restrauant is in our Neighborhood and feel very fortunate to have such a great quality dining experience so close to home. The food is always great and the service top notch. We have not been there in several months and yet our waiter remembered us and was very attentive. We were there on a Tuesday evening for our Anniversary dinner just a few other diners so it was quiet and cozy
We purchased a Groupon to enjoy a four course meal for two. We had a romantic seat next to a fireplace. Our service was excellent and the food was creative and wonderful. A great "date" restaurant that is romantic and very quiet. We were the last ones to leave and we never felt rushed. We will be back.
Beautiful location, clean, terrific food. Staff is amazing. We had our 1mth old with us and she was fussy, the hostess provided a sling for the baby carrier so she could be right at table height with us and even offered to sit with her while we ate. The wait staff was attentive and observant as they waited to bring courses of our meal between feeding and comforting our daughter. The creme brulee and chocolate decadence were to die for and the house drink "the Riverview" was delicious and refreshing. A+
It's a shame to see how this restaurant has gone downhill. Our last two visits were mediocre. I highly doubt we will be back. Maybe next summer for happy hour on the deck. They seem to get that right. Some items are still good like the calamari, but don't order a steak. I had the prime rib and it was completely inedible. It was grey, overcooked and chewy. Like it had sat out all day. Poor quality cut, topped with a poor preparation. The mash potatoes were a super stiff starchy glob. I pushed my plate aside, and watched my husband eat his dinner which he shared bites with me, since our server never returned to see how our meals were. The little loaf of bread had collapsed prior to baking, yet they felt it was still OK to serve it. They removed the cost of my inedible prime rib dinner. For a Friday night the restaurant had only a few diners. Makes sense. I wanted it to be better from our last visit. It wasn't.
