Lunch: 11:00am - 3:00pm
Dinner: 5:00pm - 9:00pm
The location is beautiful, but we were underwhelmed by the food. My nice halibut had plain white rice...I expected something more creative at a four star restaurant. We also had to take our check to the bar to pay...rather odd for an upscale establishment.
We arrived for an early dinner time (6:30pm) and there was only one other table occupied on the patio when we arrived. We were a party of 5. I had called to say that it was a birthday celebration and that one of our party was a vegan. The vegan options were very limited (which is not unusual). The chef had created a vegan option which was considerate. However, the Vegan in our party decided on the Mushroom Rissotto instead. The server was very pleasant. We ordered 4 main courses(one person just had a starter for a main), 3 starters and a bottle of wine. The meal came to $350. The food and service was very good, as expected for a pricier alternative to other restaurants in the area.
The setting was the best part. The patio looks over the vineyards towards Peller Estate and the setting sun. Very nice.
We had not dined at Riverbend for years but had been given a gift certificate and decided to use it. It was a beautiful day, but we chose to sit inside at the window as the patio was getting sunny and too warm. View over the vineyards was lovely and I like the old-fashioned room. But unfortunately, the meal did not live up to the location.
My first impression of the place was marred by scruffy dried-up geraniums in the planter not far from the entrance door. (Some of us notice that sort of thing!) As it was a warm summer day, I was hoping that the Soup du Jour would be a cold soup like a gazpacho. Alas, it was a Beef Stew soup (more suitable to a cold winter day IMHO!). But my salad with a thick raspberry vinaigrette was the best part of the whole meal. My lobster risotto with lobster tail was ample but the lobster tail was rubbery. Partner had Caesar salad (OK he said) and Duckling which was a little dry (perhaps should have ordered med-rare as the server suggested). We shared a peach tart with homemade ice cream (very tasty) which was apropos the Peach Celebration (but peaches were not as soft as I would have liked them). Our waitress was superb - friendly, knowledgeable, and service was great. But if you are going to command fine dining prices ($40 range entrees), there needs to be some more flair than just a basic "okay but not great" meal. I do not call myself a gourmet or require perfection, but having dined at other NOTL restaurants and wineries, I found Riverbend lacking. Perhaps that explains why it was not busy on what should have been a booming weekend.
Great location, wonderful view of vineyards
Felt like you were in Tuscany
Location feels like you are far from the maddening crowd
I should have paid attention to prior reviews. A beautiful summer evening and we are the ONLY people on the terrace. Wine—very mediocre and over priced. Food — mediocre. By the piece de resistance—a side of green beans for $6. But there were only 9 green beans. Save your money and go elsewhere
It was a lovely meal! I had the delicious Summer Salad—mixed greens, strawberries, goat cheese! Perfect. Next the grilled halibut with a mild curry garnish—so good! Paired with Tollgate sauv blanc. Peach crisp was my dessert followed by a Remy Martin VSOP. Couldn’t have been better. Our waitress was superb!
I thought it was overpriced and had a limited menu but it was convenient to eat there while staying there.
Have always enjoyed a lovely experience at the Riverbend Inn. This restaurant is superb, with friendly and attentive staff. Meals are very well prepared, and justify the moderate pricing. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for dinners, lunches, and special occasions.
Vacation great experience
Beautiful vista, dining on the veranda. Real care taken in the preparation of each dish, and the staff are magnificently kind and patient.
A friends 60th birthdays
Food and service was good
Very disturbing that in the middle of the week they ran out of carbonated water, two wines I tried to order and one of their main courses
Waitress tried her best but really poor miss management on part of owners
Excellent food and service, great for foodies, they need address the cold when someone opens the door. It was quit chilly tha day. Someone turned on a space heater but it was still a bit chilly ..
We liked the ambiance and live music. The menu was creative and very tasty. Our service was exceptional. We explored the idea of staying at the inn at a future date.
Christmas dinner - fine meal except they served turkey roll and we all would have preferred traditional roast turkey.
Phenomenal food and service! We are celebrating our anniversary and staying the in hotel. The restaurant was recommended by the front desk staff. The food was so delicious and the atmosphere is stunning. The service was also incredible. Definitely will be coming back!
Hey, there’s a new chef in town! Hats of to Brad the new guy at Riverbend. We had a wonderful dinner last week. The food was extraordinary. Flavours bursts in the appetizer, roasted root vegetables and a chicken dish to die for. I can not wait to visit again! Thanks again!
Always a pleasure to eat there. The food is amazing and the decor so romantic.
We went there with my old parents and they loved that the place was quiet and they were able to follow perfectly the conversation!
This place is my favorite place in Niagara.
The dinner was excellent and the the service was great. We would definitely return.
We have eaten at Riverbend several times, but this time, it was disappointing. The room was too brightly lit when we arrived and with only one server, we waited a long while to even get our menus. When she finally came by, I asked if she might dim the lights, which she did, finally. She was also acting as bartender, so drinks took a long while too. We ordered crab cakes to start which were very good, then followed with the duck breast for me and beef tenderloin for my husband. Mine was OK, very rich, but his requested medium-rare beef was mostly medium. The server was told it was my birthday and most of the times restaurants will do a little something special with dessert. They did not. Our reservation was for 7PM, but it was like they weren't ready. Very disorganized. Not like Riverbend at all, so we'll hope it was just a glitch.
The food was perfect and the service amazing. My wife and I had a great evening!
Fantastic meal, setting and service.
A lovely spot in a beautiful inn. However, food was not very good. My husband liked his salad but my soup was not very good and the crab cakes were dry and flavorless and the mango used in the salsa was not ripe.
They mistakenly changed our reservation, so were not ready for our group of eight. Service was spotty and disjointed, although we did all receive our meals at the same time. Food was good and the setting is very nice.
Server was attentive and joined in singing happy birthday to my guest.
There was no hostess. No one in charge. We received 2 paper menus and 2 leather bound menus pretty tacky. It took a long time to get our cocktails there was No sense of order. If the patio had been open it would have been sheer chaos. Service was slow. My fish was raw. The waitress while kind was ditzy. As much as I want to go back I'm hesitant.
Food was not as good as we anticipated from recommendation from a local business person. Disappointing evening overall especially because of loud, obnoxious behavior of Other patrons who were drunk.
Niagara on the Lake has long been the meeting place for our Toronto cousins and Buffalo family. Saturday night there were no brunch reservations to be had in town, and I took a chance on Riverbend. We were a party of 6 adults, a 6 year old, and a 2 year old. Since it is a short distance down the road from the center of town, it was great to not have to hunt for a place to park! I had the classic Bennie (yum) and everyone enjoyed their brunch as much as I did. The service was very good, beautiful dining room and view of the vineyard, and the 2 year old was so happy she even forgot to say no!
The duck was excellent!
Beautiful building and lawns. Noise level was to a minimum. Food was delicious but on the bland side. Service was impeccable in the restaurant. The front desk ladies need to learn how to smile and be kind.
What a beautiful dining room overlooking the vineyards. The service and food was exceptional and we will definitely be returning on our next visit to Niagara on the Lake
A wonderful evening , Kelly was an amazing server , knowledgable about the entire menu and attentive to all our needs. The room was beautiful , the ambiance of the fire was delightful. The duck breast was succulent , the meal was made all the more wonderful by adding a lobster tail.
Great food and good service. The dining room looks out over acres of vineyards. Nice patio for summer. Fireplace adds to the atmosphere. Only negative was that the jazz muzac was a little too lively at times for evening dining
Valentines dinner was lovely. Great menu choices, excellent service by Sally and food was outstanding. Highly recommend dinner at the Riverbend Inn.
Lovely breakfast included in our two night package. Our only complaint was the water for tea was not hot, luke warm at best.
For the first time, my family and I had made a reservation for Christmas Day dinner and were surprised to find that a 'traditional' Christmas dinner was not an entrée option. The food was fine, however certainly not great and considering the date, with no traditional option I was surprised that the food was not better. The small dining room was very warm and the tables were very close together. It is a lovely spot and the employees are very kind and welcoming. I'm sure it's very beautiful in the summer months overlooking the vineyards, however, next year we will return to having a Christmas dinner at home.
Prime rib was very fatty - for a Saturday night we were the only table in the restaurant.
Very rushed lunch
Meal had substitutions without being told about them
Waiter not familiar with wine list
I had much higher expectations for this restaurant as Riverbend Inn clams to be one of the a one of the top hotels in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Well, the restaurant is very average in terms of food. Even bread that was served at the beginning of the meal was stale. It is shameful. We mentioned this to our server, but did not get any replacement, and it is on Saturday night!!! Shame!
Wonderful dining experience!
