Crab cakes were very good, moist and thick with lots of meat. Mushroom soup was too thick like brown paste. Complimentary bread served with oil was good, but why bring 3 thin pieces of bread for 2 people? Creme brulee was very good.
Horrible service, we had a reservation and there were plenty of empty tables. When we asked we were given rude looks and told someone would be with us but still waited 30 minutes to be seated. We then waited an hour for our food. Burgers came out raw sent them back they nuked them and brought the back out. Omelets didnt have the Bearnaise sauce on them and they had maybe 4 very small pieces of meet and I counted 3 pieces of chopped asparagus and if it was 2 eggs we were lucky, when we told them about the sauce they brought out two cups of cold sauce for us to use. Service was slow and we had to ask for every little thing that should be standard like water, silverware, drink menu etc. We will never go back.
We went for Mother's Day. Given the popularity of dining out on this day, I would have expected more preparation. We arrived a few minutes early and were told we had to wait despite seeing open tables. After 15 minutes, I let the host know we needed to be seated or we would have to leave as the toddler was now running like a nut in the lobby. He told us we could be seated but would have to wait for service. It took over an hour from seating to receiving food. For a party of 4 with basic orders. There was little to no concern about diner satisfaction. Food was good but I would not go back.
The Mother’s day menu was very well out together reasonably priced and delicious.
Service was terrible, food was terrible. I actually had to ask a few things from another server and also the check. We were not the only ones complaining. We didn’t even get the food until 55 minutes Of long waiting. I could understand if it was busy, but it really wasn’t. Now I know why they had openings on Mother’s Day while other places didn’t.
We always love the river rock, the food is good and is never crowded. It’s nice to sit outside in warm weather.
I didn't realize it was connected to the Weston Hotel, which equates to lousy overpriced food!
A Rose by any other name?
Why I thought an eatery with the name River in it might afford some sense that one is near a river, is beyond me. The only sense of nearness to the river came from a mural on the wall depicting the river.
Service was fine - for most of the meal (at 12:45 on a Saturday), we were the only customers. Two more arrived around 1:00.
My medium rare burger turned out to be medium on the outside, partly raw on the inside. I should have asked them to cook it more, but it was topped with shrimp alfredo (burger of the day), so I muddled through it and crossed my fingers. I'll never do that again. Had a queasy stomach the rest of the weekend. Well, at least I lost weight!
They ran the authorization on my credit card twice, and I called to make sure they didn't charge me twice, but I never received a call back.
All in all, a less than stellar experience.
Wonderful discovery! Went to Wilmington for a show at the Grand and needed dinner before the show.
Easy to make a reservation, quick seating, great service and outstanding food. Once of us is a vegetarian, another on the Keto, and the third can't have diary. We all had delicious, fresh, beautifully prepared meals.
The food was wonderful. They served us an Italian Wedding Soup, and it was fantastic. Our server was sweet.
The River Rock Kitchen at the Westin Hotel in Wilmington exceeded our expectations. It was quiet due to the limited number of customers. The food and service was excellent. The sushi bowl appetizer, the farm fresh salads, the delicious entrees, and the creme' brulee dessert were all above par. Considering our pleasurable dining experience, we're not sure why the restaurant isn't busier!
Very flavorful food. Good portions. Brussel sprouts and the lemon sole were amazing. Service was a little rushed though the restaurant was fairly empty. I’ve been there a few times and will go again.
Got the job done while traveling, but not much else to highlight. The fries were good, the crab cake sandwich was fine. The onion soup isn't something anyone should order, just find something else.
I have had other meals here that were pretty good, maybe it was an off night
Great service and food.
Was out in Wilmington at dinner time and saw that they had tables available. Booked a table for 2 and arrived 15-20 minutes later. Was surprised to find that the dining room was closed. The one person working in the bar was surprised as well that the system was still booking reservations with no one working in the dining room. He did however say that they were happy to have us eat in the bar area and that the full menu was available. Food was good and the service from the bartender was attentive, but the experience was quite a bit less that what I expected. If it wasn’t already 8:30 in the evening, I would have probably left and gone somewhere else.
Great Christmas dinner! Loved the food and ambience.
Xmas buffet was outstanding. Service was great.
Very nice restaurant. Service and food were great. We got there right as they opened for dinner so we were the only people in the restaurant.
Thought this would be a good choice when going to the Delaware Theatre Company. Booked on Open Table, but when we arrived, the dining room was being used for an 'event'. We were invited into the bar instead and a waiter served us from there. Menu was very limited. We hardly ate a bite of the food when it did come, at last. Sorry, we won't be going again.
Very nice ambience and good selection of food at reasonable price
Short-staffed, though our server tried very hard, no fault of his. Food quite overpriced but well- prepared. Wine was fresh, recently opened.
We’ve eaten here several times before and always enjoyed it. The menu had changed and we weren’t as happy with it as we were previously. There were really fewer items that appealed to all four of us. Service was very slow and then the main courses came out right on top of the appetizers. It was busier than we usually experienced, so maybe they were unprepared for that. We’ll probably go back mostly because it’s so convenient when staying at the hotel. Hopefully the menu will change again.
We were quite disappointed with the food and experience at River Rock. I ordered a Ceasar Salad with Shrimp and my husband ordered a Kale Salad. The first thing this establishment needs to learn is presentation. The Kale Salad was served on a half empty plate. Instead of being distributed across the plate, the entire salad was pushed to the right of the plate, leaving the left side completely empty. The romaine on my Ceasar Salad was brown and the five shrimp tasted like frozen bagged shrimp and the Asiago bread was cold and falling apart. Lastly, the table for two was awkwardly long, making conversation difficult. While the servers were friendly, they lacked basic etiquette. For example, our bread plates were placed to the upper right of each of eating spaces. I had higher expectations for this place and will definitely not be returning.
This a hidden Gem in Wilmington DE Riverfront. We wanted something quick but with a nice ambience close to the Delaware Theatre Group. This place delivered. I ordered the burger of the day which included a delicious crab cake. It came perfectly cooked with exquisite fries. DH ordered seafood which was extremely fresh.
The service was great also.
This was our fourth or fifth time dining at River Rock Kitchen. Our server, Christina, could not have been nicer or more efficient. I ordered the burger special of the week that included a small crab cake, and both it and the burger were perfectly prepared and delicious. My husband enjoyed his salmon entree too. The dining room was not crowded on this weeknight; there was more activity at the tables in the bar area.
We come for Sunday breakfast, but this the first time for dinner. Every time has been a pleasant experience and the food is great is presentation and taste. Thank you!!!!
Prompt service, friendly and attentive staff, limited menu but varied selection
The food is always delicious here. However we missed the original wings that were on the appetizer menu. They’ve been substituted them with some other type of wings that just don’t measure up.The service is always fantastic.
Server was very attentive. Listened to our requests and fulfilled them.
Enjoyed several appetizers and the Po Boy de’jour which was fried oysters (fantastic).
Great service and enjoyed it immensely
It’s very nicely decorated, quiet and inviting.
Our hostess was pleasant but didn’t smile at all. The waiter was pleasant, smiled, attentive.
We had the American Breakfast. The food was good. Food was served while still hot; which was great. Turkey Sausage was moist and flavorful.
Overall it was a pleasant experience and I will come again.
Food was very good.
Prices are reasonable.
The River Rock location is close to the train station and was selected last night because we were returning from New York City.
As we arrived neither the location off the Westin Lobby nor the rather standard hotel restaurant décor inspired confidence. Our seating and table location were casually well done, but our confidence took another hit when the young man who had acted as the host, Shaun, arrived to take our drink order and explained that members of the staff had called in ill and that he would be doing everything – but the cooking.
Despite our concern the drinks arrived promptly and the Shaun was helpful regarding the menu. The menu was not extensive, but interesting; so we ordered the baked brie as an appetizer to share and two dinners. All three items were quite good with the duck deserving special mention. My wife often orders duck and has had the chef’s interpretation at many highly regarded restaurants and this was on a par with the best presented to her. Finally, we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary dessert in celebration of one of our birthdays noted on Open Table.
Let me be clear The River Rock Kitchen is not Daniel, Per Se or The Inn at Little Washington or locally Krazy Kats or William and Merry as it does not deliver their overall dining experience; but at least for last night the food was on a par and Shaun’s service added to the dining experience.
It was mothers day and there was only one waitress running the whole restaurant. Her name was Christina I believe, and she was lovely, but it was understaffed for the holiday. The food was very good. I ordered Brussels sprouts and the chef was not happy with how they turned out, so he remade them which was sweet. They ended up taking them off of the bill because the wait was so long. Good food, sweet waitress, but we were waiting an hour for our food, and the place was not that busy at all. I just wish they had more people in the kitchen and in the waitstaff.
What's not to like? Great food, service and free parking. My husband and I stopped in after a day of errand-running. We are new to the area and exploring all that is Delaware. My husband enjoyed the Citrus Chicken. I was torn between the Pan Seared Salmon and Rrk Cheese steak. I opted for the salmon and it was very good. My husband raved about the Rustic Tomato Bisque with Basil soup as an appetizer and I did not want to share the Tempura Shrimp Poppers. Our server was very attentive and helpful in recommending that on my return visit I get the cheese steak (it looked scrumptious as it was being delivered to another table). Overall, we will definitely return.
I was very disappointed with this venue. I made a reservation for brunch online and when I called to say I would be about 10 minutes late I was informed that they would not be open that day. I received no contact from them and was actually on my way to the restaurant. They told me that they did not have my reservation and that when you create an online reservation it is for preference but is NOT confirmed. This didn't make sense since I actually DID receive a confirmation number. The staff showed no remorse. I will never again try to eat there.
No way to improve anything.
Dinner before a show, food was good but wouldn't say exceptional. Decor is nice, good location.
We were wary when we walked in at 8pm and the place was empty. Decor is more like a Hampton Inn dining room, plain and poor lighting. Menu had some great options and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality Of the food.. Slightly overpriced but not shocking. If you are at the Wilmington waterfront and looking for a different option then check it out.
