We loved the poutine, the filet and chipotle mashed sweet potatoes, and mushroom ravioli dishes. The Caesar was ok bc it had a lot of the lighter parts of the romaine. We were there on a Sunday evening before a concert at the Grand Opera House. We were one of two couples there and got nervous but bc of the precious reviews, and we were low on time, we decided to see it through. We were happy we did! Our waiter told us that since they are in the hotel their busy days are during the week because of the higher traffic and Sundays are very quiet. Definitely worth the visit!
Very disappointing especially as we had heard great things about the place. There was nobody to great us in the restaurant which had a cafeteria feel. So we went to the bar which had a slightly better ambience. Ordered a bottle of wine and an appetizer. The wine came right away but after waiting 45 minutes we told the bartender to forget it. He informed us that the kitchen worked for the restaurant and for catering and that they had a large party - seriously so the restaurant got the short end of the stick.
It's a bit scary walking into an empty restaurant, even early in the evening, but I don't understand why this place isn't full with a line out the door! Everything was beautifully prepared, tasted delicious and paced to our liking-nicely relaxed with a pause between courses, as we'd shared when we sat down. Definitely coming back!
This was our first time at the restaurant. We made the reservations before the Blue Rocks Game. We were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is very pretty. We were greeted by Jordan, who was our waiter for the evening. He was absolutely terrific. He was very personable & attentive. The wings were the best we ever had anywhere. Everyone was pleased with their meal. Compliments to the chef. We will surely be going back the next time we go to the game....
This was our first visit to River Rock Kitchen; we went with friends on a weekday evening. Dinner was good and service was attentive. I had a citrus quinoa salad with grilled salmon; others had ravioli and kale salad. All dishes were fresh and tasty. And we were not rushed out. Sat for a couple of hours, which was quite nice. We were just about the only people there, but likely because it's a little off the beaten path and an off hour. But We enjoyed it and will likely return.
It was a gorgeous evening on Memorial Day weekend. We asked if we could sit outside, which proved to be an error. The furniture was not set up for dining; the fire pit was still covered, lights were not on, umbrellas were not installed in tables.
Ambiance aside, the food was very poorly cooked...
1. Poutine was comprised of shredded short ribs (good!) on top of mini potato hash browns. These dumplings (don't know what else to call them) were overdone and dry as a bone.
2. The baked Brie was certainly not baked, closer to barely warm. And the crostini was seemingly burned, with the black part then scraped off.
3. The crab cake was overly crisp on the top and bottom, creating an unmoist center.
It is unclear how the food could be so poor. There was one other party in the interior of the restaurant and another couple on the patio, so the kitchen could not have been rushed. Yet, all of the food was lacking attention, with none of the plates prepared correctly.
Oh, and since we sitting outside, one of the managers was overheard yelling at an employee being late to work. Nice!
We had an early dinner for a special occasion and the wait staff were very accommodating and even offered us the dinner menu at 3:30 pm on a Saturday. The location and the ambiance make this a great restaurant for almost any event. I had the petite filet and is was cooked perfectly at medium rare and a couple of people in the party are GF and Vegan and the servers took their time to make sure that everything was done correctly.
Went with a group of 8 for a work lunch. Food didn't arrive until an hour after we ordered i(and only after we complained to manager). Then they brought out different people's food over a 5+ minute time period so people who had been served were awkwardly waiting to start until everyone was served, so their food got cold waiting. No apologies or anything from the server or the manager. We will not be returning to this restaurant.
We were there for Sunday Easter lunch, and it was fabulous. My lamb was done perfectly, the kids were given little eggs filled with jelly beans, everyone's meal was to their liking. My family and I had an excellent time. This was our second time there and we will be going again.
This was our 2nd time at River Rock. We both loved it the first time and told our friends about it. The seating is chaotic as there doesn't seem to be a host assigned to the entrance so you get left standing wondering what to do. Or as we witnessed, people came in and just sat wherever. The servers didn't seem to know where they were going and it wasn't that busy--especially being a Friday night. Our drinks took a while because the only bar area is in the lobby of the hotel and serves both the lobby and the restaurant. The wings we got for our appetizer were very good but were not wrapped in bacon as they were listed to on the menu. When we mentioned it to the server, he said, "oh yeah, I think they are too". I was very disappointed with my Shrimp and grits mainly because my grits were stone cold. My husband liked his Steak dish. Looking forward to a special night out for a "big" birthday and it was not what we hoped or experienced before.
Not sure why this restaurant was empty the evening we visited. The menu isn't bad, and location is good, just around the corner from a lot of restaurants that usually have very long wait times. Our meals were very tasty. Lack of other diners made the ambience rather dull, and the wait staff overeager as a result. Hard to believe, but additional restaurant guests would have made for a nicer ambiance.
We used Open Table to make a reservation well in advance. I also called the restaurant to advise that one of our party uses a power wheelchair, and to confirm that the restaurant is accessible. Despite this, when we arrived, the only tables for six that were available in the restaurant were high-tops; as a result we were seated in the more public bar area, at a table for four, with another table for four pushed over and a chair added between the bench seats.
Our server was wonderful, and the food was good. Just wish we could have been accommodated in the restaurant itself, as planned.
Our first experience here was phenomenal. I loved the tuna small plate with the watermelon. This time it was unexceptional. There was a party in the dining area so we had to eat in the bar even though we had reservations. Perhaps the party was the reason that service was slow. The food was good but not exceptional. That was kind of a letdown since our expectations had been raised so high from the last time. Might have just been an off night, I don't know.
The restaurant doesn't seem to ever be over populated at lunch time, but this time we called in a reservations well as placed an order as we only had an hour four business meeting. They were waiting on us when we arrived and less than 5 minutes later we were eating and meeting...it really was perfect and greatly appreciated with my busy schedule. I would recommend this way of pre-ordering to everyone I know!
Our waiter was new and did not know the menu. I was NOT warned that the red snapper entree came with the head and tail attached. I was disgusted.
My friend switched her entree with mine and gave me her salmon. The salmon was salty.
So disappointing :(
