Executive Chef José Gutierrez is Tennessee’s only French Master Chef and an esteemed member of the Memphis culinary scene working for over 20 years at the prestigious Peabody Hotel’s Chez Philippe before helming River Oaks. I've tried it 3 times because friends have said good things about it. Well 3 strikes and it's out. How can you cover a very small strip steak (maybe 6 oz) in watery gravy, over cook the heck out of it and charge Flemings or Ruth's Criss prices. Our dinner for 5 ran over $350 without deserts. Started with their Beignets as the waitress suggested, bland and tasteless. The steak was a bad joke and everything from the bar was incredibly over-priced. Their wine prices are laughable. I just don't understand it's popularity at all.

As was expected, Chef José's food was outstanding and the ambience of the restaurant was perfect. When we arrived, the restaurant was almost full, but even with so many people there, once we were seated, it felt like we were in our own little corner of the world. I can't wait to go back again!

We were celebrating our daughter's graduation from high school. Our server Mary Beth was attentive, cheerful, helpful. The food was delicious and beautifully plated. We were 9 and they gave us a table in an alcove so it was quieter. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Wonderful dinner and experience. Already planning a trip back. Salad with farro and basil was such a surprise. Can't wait to have it again. Fish special was perfect with every bite!
