My wife and I had a most enjoyable dining experience. It was our first time at the River Crab. The restaurant exceeded it's long and outstanding reputation. The only thing that surpasses its menu and wine list is the incredible view. Management's welcome/reservation process is seemless and the professional wait staff is excellent.
We will return… as often as possible.
The food was good the lobster tail was a bit over cooked as the coconut shrimp
The Service was excellent. Our Server was Cheryl and she did a GREAT job. Everyone in our party enjoyed their dinner. I can only say positives about our experience.
The only problem we had was the hostess staff. We told them we had a 4PM reservation for our anniversary
dinner. It seemed unorganized and confused. Normally we get Anniversary Menus, when we get seated, but not this time. The dinner was fantastic & our waterfront view was terrific. Nicki our waitress did an outstanding job.
Family favorite for any occasion! Brunch and Thanksgiving awesome!!!!
It was quick and easy to make a reservation, which we were thankful for. The ambiance when we arrived (including the complimentary valet) was very special. The charm and tradition steeped in each and every table and the bar. It had been nearly 18 years since I had been there for dinner.
Food: The drinks were great, amazing wine selection. The appetizer we had were the scallops and they were delicious. They arrived perfectly cooked and tasted wonderful. The steak ordered as medium rare came out medium well and a bit cold. The lobster tail was cooked exactly right. The chopped wedge salad was delicious and the vegetables were quite fresh.
Service: This was the down part of our evening. The waiter seemed very off his game. He otherwise is most likely a good waiter. We saw him maybe 3 times during the hour and a half we were there. We were never asked for a second round of drinks. After our dinner arrived we didn't see him again for possibly 30-35 minutes. To the point, I help my wallet out with my card to try and grab the attention of someone. The server next to us seemed really good, and handled the rush pretty well. Overall the service was pretty rough.
Ambiance: The restaurant sits right on the river. There is no longer outdoor seating along the boardwalk, but the indoor seating has plenty of views and really makes for a special aspect of the dinner. The noise level is quite manageable and you're able to have a very nice conversation. I would say the worst part is on Mondays and Thursdays when a tour boat of around 150-200 people stop and get off the boat to come in for dinner, drinks, and to take pictures. This in my opinion completely ruins the experience and makes it feel like a tourist trap.
Value: I feel like you're getting what you pay for here. The food is priced comparable to what you receive. The quality makes the price you pay worth it.
I would have a hard time recommending this as a dinner spot having been here after this visit.
Loved it. Food was delicish! Meagan, our server, was excellent.
A pleasant nite out.The Landry Points system is a real plus!
Our favorite place on the St. Clair River. Never a disappointment, outstanding food, friendly service and quiet enough to have wonderful conversations with dinner guests!
Overall the experience was good. One dinner of snapper was inedible. The river crab took it off our bill and gave us a free dessert. Requested a table on the water because we were celebrating a 40th anniversary and the Restaraunt couldn’t accommodate us. Although we did have a view of the river.
Courteous, professional, respectful, great service and delicious food! Compliments to the server and chef!
My husband and I had a very nice a anniversary dinner at River Crab. We were given a lovely table by the window looking out on Lake St Clair and they handed us customized menus with anniversary wishes in print at the top and signed by the chef and bartender. A very nice touch! We also received a complimentary dessert!
I didn’t do 5 stars in all categories for a few reasons: 1) the tables on either side of us were enjoying fairly loud conversation (a bit too close), 2) we both had surf & turf and although the lobster tail was perfect, I was a little disappointed in the filet. Parts of the filet were chewy and I actually had to spit a bite into my napkin. The warm goat cheese salad was fantastic as wete the red skinned smashed potatoes, fresh lemon tart and key lime pie! Our server, Tony, was superb. He had everything timed perfectly, and was very personable and pleasant without hovering.
We will definitely return to River Crab and recommend it whether you have a casual meal outside by the water or inside in the A/C. It’s a great experience!
Always a great place to eat at. Everything has a great flavor. The parking Valet is excellent as is the Hostess and the Wait Staff. This is the best place around to eat at!!
Love the happy hour although they don’t serve the portobello fries anymore. They were absolutely delicious.
Keith the bartender is always gracious and calming to talk with. Just a wonderful place to relax and appreciate the water view.
Went by boat. Saw Paul and oats . Great evening. Hostess sat us outside even though I made reservation and didn’t realize u have to call
For outside seating
Definitely get the Brie appetizer or save it for dessert! Mussels were boring. The bread basket is excellent. Lamb meatballs (with a bit of salt) are fabulous! We unfortunately got there the same time as a river dinner cruise that docks at the restaurant, so our view was partially block and had to listen to the motor for an hour and a half . I would ask if they were hosting this if I make reservations in the summer.
Awesome spot for a great dinner. Great view of the river
Great seafood presentations. Awesome wine list. Love the view of the River & passing freighters.
Service was excellent but we had to flag down a waiter after 5-10 minutes. Appeared to be an issue with the hostess but the waiter didn't blame anyone and provided excellent service. The Sunday brunch was fresh and delicious. The view of the water provides a nice ambiance.
We always like to go to the branch at least two times during the summer. It’s lovely to sit out on their deck if it’s a good weather day. The food is always prepared well and we’ve always had good service.
My birthday celebration! Seated on the river, excellent food and service, and a gift of Creme Brulee. Highly recommend this restaurant. We go every year when we visit St. Clair.
The River Crab is always outstanding. Great food, service, and the view is fantastic.
WE HAD A WONDERFUL TIME SEATED AT A TABLE BY THE WINDOW AND ENJOYED GREAT FOOD AND DRINKS.
Food was so good. Our service was excellent which made is so much more of a great evening. His name was David. For someone being so young he knew exactly how to make the evening so memorable. I watched how he served the other guests. He was hoppin !
I hope he is on the next time we go there
Friday night out with friends. Sat outside and enjoyed the water. Great seafood! The scallops were excellent!
The River crab is an outstanding restaurant, It has been there for many years and does not need to change a think. Management and staff are wonderful along with everything on the menu.
Fantastic food with a beautiful view!!! Highly recommend!!!
Old school beef and fish, with a lovely river view. We feel it’s worth the drive several times a year and for holidays.
The brunch isn’t as nice as it used to be. An omelet stand is advertised, but there wasn’t one. It wasn’t really worth the one hour drive like it used to be.
I have been coming here over the last 15 years and love the brunch. This time it was less than expected. We haven't seen the 3 men who play the live instruments around the dinning. No made to order omelets out at the buffet anymore. The bananas foster wasn't made the same (not hot and the caramel sauce got hard and chewy as soon as it hit the cold ice-cream. The girl put what seemed to be a counted number of banana slices (4) in the sauce pan for just a second after I asked for one. Apparently they don't do anything to acknowledge a special occasions either. 😟
I have never thought the price wasn't worth the experience or the drive until now.
To make a reservation for a special occasion and to be seated almost an hour after. Shoved in a dark corner. To pay grossly inflated prices. Make my first wedding anniversary rememberable unfortunately not in a good way.
Excellent meal. Service was a bit slow, but ok. Disappointed that we were seated in the back when we specifically requested window. Second time in a row that we have been shut out of the patio due to a special occasion.
Our waitress was Mia and she was absolutely amazing!! I would come back just for her. It was for the boyfriends birthday and I nailed it with her help and the restaurants.
We went to this restaurant to celebrate a birthday. We were seated at a nice table inside. The meals were very good. I would order the Lemon Chicken dish again. We had good service during our lunch. The view was great, and we even saw a ship going down the river.
Second time there. Service was great, food recommendations were accurate, and overall food choices were numerous. We will return in the future.
The food was good, but the service was very slow (mainly the bar).
Because it was a Wednesday night, there was a band outdoors and the bar was getting orders, way out of it's capacity. We had to wait 15 minutes for a drink and over 20 minutes for 2nd and 3rd cocktail. There used to be a bar outside for those patrons and it would surely make sense on those busy nights to accommodate the dinner folks better.
Was in town visiting family. We hadn't been to River Crab in a couple of years but always enjoyed it so we wanted to go back (my parents live 45 minutes from St Clair, are elderly and don't drive). We were seated within a few minutes and waiter greeted us shortly after and poured water. He said he'd give us a few minutes to decide on drink orders but didn't return for 20 minutes (unacceptable). Once he returned we ordered drinks and another 20 minutes went by (unacceptable). He came back (without the drinks) apologizing and saying he was new and overwhelmed and introduced us to Sharon, a new wait person. She said she'd take our drink order--we told her we ordered 20 minutes ago then another staff person walked up with the drinks (40 minutes after being seated). Sharon took our dinner order. My parents asked to split the Martha's vineyard salad, it was not split on two plates--really? 20 minutes after ordering entrees Sharon informed me the entree I ordered was sold out so I ordered another item. Our service was so terrible the table of 4 next to us commented on how bad it was and said they felt sorry for us. In hindsight we should have left. Dinner was fair, meat was not tender, asparagus was overcooked. To top it off, when my father was presented with the check it took 15 minutes to process--Sharon returned after almost 10 minutes saying they were having issues with the credit card payment system. All the guests who arrived with the dinner cruise were seated, served and left in the time we were there (1 hr, 45 min). It's obvious the focus is on the cruise customers--my guess is the restaurant wouldn't be around if it wasn't for their patronage. In addition, the cruise boat blocked our view of the river, part of the reason we wanted to dine there. My husband and I travel and dine out often. I don't recall having service this poor in a long time. Needless to say, we won't return or recommend to family and friends.
We were there on a Monday night. We were looking forward to fish and they were out of salmon, halibut and a third which was very surprising and disappointing. I ordered a Jack Daniels Manhattan and they were out of Jack...never had a restaurant bar out of Jack. The waitress was very nice and very good. The lemon chicken dish was good. My friend looked forward to their carrot cake for their anniversary celebration and they were out of that too! We may give it another try sometime and hope this was a fluke.
view, food and service great
