Because it was a Wednesday night, there was a band outdoors and the bar was getting orders, way out of it's capacity. We had to wait 15 minutes for a drink and over 20 minutes for 2nd and 3rd cocktail. There used to be a bar outside for those patrons and it would surely make sense on those busy nights to accommodate the dinner folks better.
Was in town visiting family. We hadn't been to River Crab in a couple of years but always enjoyed it so we wanted to go back (my parents live 45 minutes from St Clair, are elderly and don't drive). We were seated within a few minutes and waiter greeted us shortly after and poured water. He said he'd give us a few minutes to decide on drink orders but didn't return for 20 minutes (unacceptable). Once he returned we ordered drinks and another 20 minutes went by (unacceptable). He came back (without the drinks) apologizing and saying he was new and overwhelmed and introduced us to Sharon, a new wait person. She said she'd take our drink order--we told her we ordered 20 minutes ago then another staff person walked up with the drinks (40 minutes after being seated). Sharon took our dinner order. My parents asked to split the Martha's vineyard salad, it was not split on two plates--really? 20 minutes after ordering entrees Sharon informed me the entree I ordered was sold out so I ordered another item. Our service was so terrible the table of 4 next to us commented on how bad it was and said they felt sorry for us. In hindsight we should have left. Dinner was fair, meat was not tender, asparagus was overcooked. To top it off, when my father was presented with the check it took 15 minutes to process--Sharon returned after almost 10 minutes saying they were having issues with the credit card payment system. All the guests who arrived with the dinner cruise were seated, served and left in the time we were there (1 hr, 45 min). It's obvious the focus is on the cruise customers--my guess is the restaurant wouldn't be around if it wasn't for their patronage. In addition, the cruise boat blocked our view of the river, part of the reason we wanted to dine there. My husband and I travel and dine out often. I don't recall having service this poor in a long time. Needless to say, we won't return or recommend to family and friends.
We were there on a Monday night. We were looking forward to fish and they were out of salmon, halibut and a third which was very surprising and disappointing. I ordered a Jack Daniels Manhattan and they were out of Jack...never had a restaurant bar out of Jack. The waitress was very nice and very good. The lemon chicken dish was good. My friend looked forward to their carrot cake for their anniversary celebration and they were out of that too! We may give it another try sometime and hope this was a fluke.
view, food and service great
Place is pretty great! We make the far drive and visit several times a year especially in the Summer to sit outside and watch the freighters go past. Food is good, service is usually pretty slow but we know that so it’s expected. The lobster tail is our favorite, it’s huge. Love to sit outside and watch all the boats go right past that’s the best part of the restaurant. Great for out door dinning, we will return again next month as usual!
Jimmy the server was outstanding. We requested a window or patio seat but the hostess said it would be a long wait even though there were empty tables. The tables remained empty through our entire stay. I just don’t like being lied to. Also we both ordered their signature new fashioned cocktail which were excellent. We ordered another but were informed they couldn’t make it because they run out of oranges. Bad luck!
We were very pleased with our meal. Food was well prepared and tasty. The waiter was outstanding with service and recommendations.
All around great experience. Claire was fantastic
Great place to dine. Impeccable food and service. Highly recommended especially on a beautiful sunny day.
Just a really good seafood restaurant. Scallops were great and firecracker shrimp wonderful (nice portion too). The mussels, which normally are great were a little stale. But that is MidWest seafood for you...too far from the coast for mussels??
Was a favorite spot but not this night, chicken portobello linguine, dried out tasteless dish, and$13 for a drink ridiculous. Not a good value for what was served.
Excellent food, needed server at times but could not see her. She still did an amazing job.
Fabulous service in restaurant we are very familiar with. Love the seafood and appetizers! Extensive wine list and great summer sangrias.
Overall good dining experience once we were seated. Had to wait a half hour for a table even though I had a reservation. Had requested a window table and was shown an inside table. I refused that table and was then given the requested window table.
Delicious food, marvelous service, magnificent atmosphere. Love this place!
We have very high expectations for this restaurant and go there at least a few times a year but this time the seating, the service, and the food were good but not as good.
A fantastic meal. The food, service, view and ambience were all first rate. We recommend the River Crab for any occasion or just for a great meal!!
Great as usual! Family went out for a Saturday dinner. My Lake Perch dinner was great as usual! Everybody else’s dinners were very good. How can you beat the scenery!
Fabulous food, fabulous atmosphere and Janice was a wonderful waitress!
We have celebrated our anniversary here for the last 5 years. This year our celebration included birthdays of 4 family members, some of whom joined us from out-of-town. Although the restaurant was informed of the special occasions, no acknowledgement/recognition was given (as in the past).
One person ordered a craft beer. Not only was he served the wrong beer, but it was flat. After informing the server, the correct one was brought out. The same person was served a very small serving of over-cooked fish. Not wanting to seem like complainers, nothing was said, so admittedly the restaurant did not have an opportunity to correct it. In any case, it should have been quite obvious to both the kitchen and the server that the portion was inadequate and the fish was burnt.
We had a young child with us, but had to request a kiddie menu. We were never asked how our meal was, nor offered additional bread or water. BTW, the restaurant did not seem overly busy. We have always enjoyed bringing out-of-town guests to this restaurant in the past, but will unlikely do so in the future.
Great food, great view of the St. Clair River and boat traffic, and great service, hard to beat this establishment!!!
My wife and I have been at the River Crab for a number of years. We move away and every time we come to town, the River Crab is a must.
Our experience was disappointing unfortunately. We were looking forward to having a nice lobster tail but they didn’t have any left. We had an early reservation 6:30 so we were surprised that they had run out.
Excellent as always
My husband and I enjoyed our anniversary dinner at The River Crab. During every visit we enjoy superb service, delicious food and a great view. The same was true for our anniversary dinner. We will definitely return to one of our favorite restaurants! As a side note our server told us that our Landry Select card had expired and we needed to purchase a new one. We purchased a new Landry Select card and received a second card with a new number. Upon returning home I called and spoke to a Representative from Landry Select who said their cards never expire. Uncertain about the confusion on the part of the server.
The Sunday brunch tasted and smelled like left over from the week in the kitchen with the fish. The service was nice but food was ok. Tasted the same as 20 years ago. The unpleasant odor of wet cigarette butts that was abundant in the container near the entrance of the door and the water glasses and empty beer bottles that left outside on the wall where my 5 year old was able to play with it, was a bad last impression as we left the restaurant. In an attempt to change things up and drive out of the way to place with fond memories..should have been just kept as memories.
love this place, great food, great views, great service.
Stephanie was fantastic
The service was excellent and so was our dinner. Love having our anniversary dinner here.
Hostess was friendly upon arrival. We were greeted quickly once seated and Olivia, our server, was patient and helpful. All staff throughout the restaurant were very cordial and the food was timely and delicious. We had a wonderful first experience. The personalized menus to acknowledge our anniversary was a pleasant surprise and an extremely nice touch.
We've been going to the river Crab for 35 yrs. and have never had a bad meal. Nice choices and presentations....Good service... Love it.
The food was so tasty, went for my son’s birthday and the portion was large and he was full when we left. The waiter was super nice and was awesome. Would recommend this restaurant.
A good place to take friends on special occasions. It was our 57th anniversary and a good time was had by all.
Beautiful view and excellent food, drinks and service. Will return.
Excellent food quality, on the River and when weather permits you can eat outside. Some view tables inside. Excellent service. Ask for Alan, he was one of our favorite servers.
It was Father’s Day. Brunch was ok. The food trays were quite a bit. We sat outside with one waitress. Had to ask 3 times for a beverage. She never came to the table to see if we needed anything. We had to find her to get utensils. We have been there several times and never experienced this. Considering that it takes me over an hour to get there, I would not go back on the weekends.
The server lacked enthusiasm leaving us to believe we were an inconvenience. His attitude was poor as we were in earshot of him and others complaining about their day. Unfortunately, my wife and I pay too much attention to service since we also own a business. We understand that it is very difficult to find good people, but they need to understand how their behavior affects their patrons at the restaurant. Otherwise, the food and all else was good, but we couldn't wait to get out of there. Next time we will drive to the Gandy Dancer for good fish.
As always, another great dinner at the River Crab!! We arrived via boat and sat outside, the weather was fantastic and the food was refreshing.
Highly recommend this restaurant for all!!!
We hadn't been to the River Crab in quite some time. We won't let happen again. The evening was most enjoyable. We had the twilight special which was a great value with plenty to eat. The entire staff was excellent making the evening even more enjoyable. Would definitely recommend it.
