   Mediocrity at a price. Tasteless sardines (!), rubbery lamb, overcooked beans - I could have done this at home... HFW's good name is being effectively trashed.

   We have eaten here several times and have always been very impressed with the service, quality of food and helpfulness of staff. Last weekend however this want the case. The staff were clearly very busy, orders took a long time and in the end we didn't even get dinner plates!! The server was v apologetic afterwards but it will be a while before we think about going again.

   We eat in here quite regularly as it's walking distance from where we live. Never been disappointed, quality of food is always really good & the staff are lovely

   The only thing that stopped it being outstanding was our waitress. Whilst not bad and we didn't have to wait she did not seem to match the rest of the high standard of the canteen.

   The server Ivana was amazing explained the menu very well and the ambience of the restaurant was very authentic and laid back. The food and the presentation was amazing as well! Highly resommended!

   We were left disappointed on occasion, previously have enjoyed eating here but the and portion sizes seemed reduced, the food was warm not hot and the service was slow, we waited a long time for our drinks. When the drinks arrived the cocktails were the flavours advertised. We were also disappointed not be offered the 2/3 course set price menu when other tables were offered after we ordered. Generally poor showing, we will not be returning in a hurry.

   We had a pleasant lunch at River Cottage Canteen. The food was very good. Simple fare, locally sourced, nicely presented and well priced. I wasn't 'excited' about it, but it was good. I think the vegetarian options (which I went for) could be a bit more exciting. Not poncey (!) but they seemed a tad dull compared to the meaty options. Perhaps more unusual / interesting choices of veg, cheeses etc might jazz them up a bit. Also why not provide a small amount of nice bread with every meal, like most of the rest of Europe does? Little things like that really make it.

   It was a nice meal but changes to menu format did not tick our box ordering sides separately was confusing and didnt work well with the small tables. we really like hugh and his food philosophy we have been eating in his canteens and hq for years now and feel let down by his changes and increased prices. Sorry Hugh !

    Live music on some Friday's and cocktail club every Friday 4-8pm I think. Really relaxed and genuine fresh food given that extra bit of attention most people don't give at home. Highly recommend.
