River and Post
Disclaimer: River & Post does not offer the full dining menu on our rooftop, but does offer appetizers. Our lounge seating is on a first come, first served basis starting daily at 4:00 p.m.
For parties of 10 or more, at least half the group must be present to be seated. We will then hold the reservation for 15 minutes to wait for the additional guests. If the guests do not arrive, we will reduce the table to fit the current group.
Reservation was 7:45... didn’t get seated till 8:30... little long for having a reservation in my opinion. We sat on the rooftop for a bit to kill time and there were 2 ladies working... took about 15-20 min to get a drink and it wasn’t slammed... once we got our table downstairs it went smooth but could tell something was off with the staff. Would try again a different night to see if it was just a bad night or not.
Early Valentine’s Day dinner.
Awesome service, Awesome food, Drinks not so great. I wanted a soupful of lobster fumet on my grits and they would give the birthday girl what she wanted. BOOO!!!! LOL!
The rooftop lounge was nice especially overlooking the city and river while having drinks with friends. After drinks we ventured down to the restaurant on the bottom floor where we ordered dinner. Prices seemed very reasonable but I was taken back when I ordered the combo of shrimp and mahi-mahi. I asked for fried shrimp and grilled blackened magi. I was told they can’t mix my preferences. I would need to choose grilled or fried. Without a very good reason for them to accommodate my request I reluctantly ordered grilled. No big deal at the time. However when my plate arrived it contained 4 grilled shrimp and 5 fish nuggets which I assume was my mahi-mahi. Oh by the way it came with Fried French fries and two fried hush puppies. The food itself was fine just confused that a restaurant like this would not attempt to accommodate a reasonable request from a customer. Still trying to figure out why I received fish nuggets instead of a whole fish filet.
The food was fantastic. Each item was at the highest standard. The service was slow although the restaurant was not crowded. I will definitely go again.
Food and service were great! Our server was very attentive and helpful with suggestions. I would certainly go back the next time I visit.
Overall, the food was excellent and our server (Barry) was fantastic! Great layout and the rooftop bar was very nice. But... we had 7:45 reservations for a party of 4. Arrived early so we were happy to go to rooftop bar for cocktails. What we were not thrilled about was still waiting 1 hour to be seated despite having reservations. It seemed as though they forgot us. When we were finally seated, I counted 4-5 open tables. That said, everything else was great. Our server truly turned a disappointing wait into a great dinner experience.
The food was amazing and the service was great! Will definitely be back!
Love the rooftop deck. Cocktails, food and service was excellent!
Delicious food. Terrific service. Pretty ambiance.
Food was fantastic, reasonable prices. Server was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and specials. Great for a romantic night or a night out with friends.
Nice venue. Had a good dinner before going up to the top Terrance to have a couple of drinks. Nice view of downtown. Would probably go back again
We ate lunch here today for the first time and really enjoyed it. Service was great and our food was as well. My husband had the Linguine and Clams and I had the Lobster Roll. Both of us were very pleased. My lobster roll came with fries that were kind of soggy and barely warm, tasted like they had been sitting around for a while. Other than that everything was great. We will definitely come back.
This was my second time at River and Post. I came back for food and view from the rooftop. Service both times failed my expectations. This time it was my birthday, I clearly stated that on the reservation to give the server a heads up. We arrived 15 min late, waited for the table at the rooftop. We ordered an appetizer there, when I got the text and call that the table is ready, I cashed out with the server there and we headed back down. Upon our arrival to the hostess stand, we were told it’s going to be another 10-15 minutes. What was the point of calling me then? Okay. We just stood there waiting. About 5 minutes in, our appetizer arrives and the person delivering it comes up to us and asks us if we want it. I am sorry, were we supposed to eat it with our hands while waiting for your hostesses to figure out the situation? Finally getting seated after 45 minute wait, Joe was walking us to the very first table at the entrance of the table. Would I like it? No, it’s my birthday I’d Like a little more consideration. We got a table by the window, got our appetizer. The server was nice, however extra setting was never removed (we were a party of 3, table remained set for 4). After we were done with the appetizer the empty plates were never removed. Not even when the entree was served! You claim to be a fine restaurant! Even at Chilli’s servers do this! Finally our server asked about desserts, my friend told her that we’d like something with a candle since it’s my Birthday. The server said “Oh, really? Congratulations!” Thank you, but at a place like this with the existing reservation I expect our server to know the details. Is it the management problem? Can you not train your staff properly? Please go to Columbia or Michael’s Tasting Room or even BJ’s and copy the rules for the servers/hostesses so they can be properly trained. The fact that you are not a chain restaurant and don’t have a rule book approved by the corporate doesn’t account for lack of basic training.
The 4 of us visited the rooftop and then had dinner on the first floor. My meal was very salty and had too much pepper on it.
The crowd was very noisy.
Very lively atmosphere and quite noisy. My date ordered a side salad which he loved. Very fresh ingredients with a wonderful citrus vinaigrette. He had the linguine with clams. A healthy portion with loads of clams. I had the fish of the day blackened which included hush puppies, fries and coleslaw. Lots to eat. All of it was very good.
Food was too salty to enjoy. Way to much seasoning on meats. The veggies and beans that our entrees came with could’ve came out of a can. Way overpriced
My boyfriend and I had a date night planned here and were very disappointed with the whole experience. We had a 7:30 reservation and were not seating for over 40 minutes. After we were seated we waited an additional 10 minutes to get waited on and didn't get drinks until nearly an hour after our reservation time. Although complimentary appetizers were brought out for waiting guests, it was not enough compensation for the wait and the inconvenience. The cocktails and small bites (crab beignets) were actually very good, but the entrees were nothing special. I do not understand the hype for this restaurant and will definitely not be dining again.
Great food. Cool rooftop bar.
The food and service were outstanding. The noise level in dining was tough. We had a great time still. A must visit again and again!
We came to celebrate an early Valentine's dinner. Server, Shane, is on point. Food was dynamite. Drinks were fabulous.
I have been there twice and the food is really good but both times it was so loud that we literally had to yell to hear each other talk.
I had heard amazing things about the restaurant. Honestly, it was absolutely nothing to write home about. The menu on google menu versus the website are also different so make sure to go to the actually website. It was smaller, and nothing unique. It was decent food though, just not a "must try" place as I had been told. Our server was wonderful, however service was slow.
Started our lunch with the excellent crabmeat beignets, followed by the Ahi tuna which was good, however, it was in a ginger sauce which was a little too hot for my liking so keep that in mind ...you taste it more than the tuna. We finished by sharing the Brioche Bread Pudding with rum sauce - OMG, this was wonderful. I was pretty full going in, but once I had a bite, I was ready to lap the plate....it was that good!!!!
Reservation at 7:15 did not get seated until 7:50. Took 20 minutes to get our drinks after being seated
This is a fun new restaurant. The seafood is fresh and servers are very knowledgeable. This is a great spot for a date night. The rooftop bar has a lovely view of the St. John’s River.
We had eaten at the restaurant for lunch before & finally had a chance to go for dinner. Fabulous food! Great atmosphere! A really good experience all around. Liked that the manager walked around to each table making sure everything was ok. Took the time to come back & check on everything. Snickerdoodle Cheesecake for dessert was amazing! Only complaint was it was too loud which caused a mixup in my entree, which was quickly corrected. Will definitely go back when it warms up to try the rooftop lounge.
The table was too small, table of two. The drinks are overpriced. The food was good and the service was fine
I had the seared sea scallops and risotto. The scallops were good. There was so much fresh thyme in the risotto that it overpowered the other ingredients. Thyme is one of my favorite herbs but the over use of it ruined the risotto. My companions enjoyed their entrees. The interior and the view of Riverside are very pleasing.
There is an extensive list of reputable restaurants in Jax, River and Post being one of them. Why not try it?
Starting the evening with the rooftop bar was a delight.
Had excellent and efficient service, along side delicious appetizers and a cocktail. Definitely will be revisiting this portion again.
Then came the dinner experience.
Our service was rather concise. The pacing was not what we expected with the price that was asked.
The entrees came within 15 minutes of ordering, and I had not had the chance to order wine before the entrees arrived.
It seemed as if it was a “turn and burn” situation.
The only disappointing factor was that I was celebrating a birthday, and nothing was given or even discounted for it.
Most restaurants, especially in that price range, allow for some sort of celebration or a dessert on the house.
Me and my wife first visit, it was amazing we love the atmosphere and the food was great!!
Alittle disappointed with crab beniet (which some rave about). Nice atmosphere for out of town guests. Shrimp and grits were very good.
Three of us dined at River and Post on Sunday evening. It was a busy night for them (we were told) so service from our waiter was a bit slow. However, some of the other staff picked up the slack when we called them over for assistance and that was appreciated. The craft cocktails were very good and the smoked fish appetizer was very tasty. My two other guests enjoyed their food very much. However the grilled seafood platter I had was not to my expectations. The scallops were tasty but the shrimp and "fresh" mahi were okay. I felt like it lacked pizazz and the mahi didn't taste fresh.
Each time I go, I either get the Shrimp and Grits or the Scallops and Risotto. Both are excellent. One day, I'll try something else. And the bread pudding for dessert is wonderful.
We arrived on time for our 7:45 reservation. The table wasn't ready so we went to the bar. At 8:15 I went to the hostess stand to check on our table. 6 employees were standing there chatting and it was clear our table had been ready but they just failed/forgot to text me as they'd promised. We thought the food was good but not exceptional.
It took quite a while to get our first round of drinks, the food was on point and amazing. It was a little loud, I think if we had a booth it would’ve been a little quieter. Overall, excellent, will definitely be back!
Great food but even with a reservation we had to wait 30 minutes.
Had a reservation but still waited 20 plus minutes for a table. Food was delicious and waitress was wonderful.
