River and Post
Disclaimer: River & Post does not offer the full dining menu on our rooftop, but does offer appetizers. Our lounge seating is on a first come, first served basis starting daily at 4:00 p.m.
For parties of 10 or more, at least half the group must be present to be seated. We will then hold the reservation for 15 minutes to wait for the additional guests. If the guests do not arrive, we will reduce the table to fit the current group.
Great service by Kat!
Beautiful view from the roof, well crafted drinks and appetizers. First floor restaurant with very fresh seafood, excellent steaks, starches, and vegetables. Wine selection very enjoyable, need more offerings of wine by the glass. Tasty deserts
I came back to this restaurant for the Ribeye. It is delicious!! We will definitely be back again.
The food was great. Our server Emily was AWESOME!!!
Seafood was delicious. The service was very slow on a Sunday. Took 45 minutes just to get appetizers. Brunch french toast was cold and obviously cooked and ready before the rest of the other meals. Nice place.
What a Place!
We came here during our spring break vacation to enjoy the fresh seafood and views of the river. Every restaurant I reserved this past weekend had to be on the river or beach. Needless to say our dinning experience was perfect! Great service from our server to the kitchen and we will defiantly return when we're back in Jacksonville this winter.
First visit for an anniversary dinner and we loved it. Definitely will be visiting again. The salmon was perfect!!!
We had a good time. Food was good. Seats were facing outside so nice view. Waiter was a little slow but I can't blame him, they had computer issues. I ordered the steak salad, it was really good. We ordered the burger, the lobster roll and a filet mignon. Everything was great except the french fries weren't hot. I tried them and they were tasty, just not hot. Beautiful decor inside. Staff is really sweet. Loved the menu choices, it was hard to decide what to order.
The food was outstanding, as was our server, Kellie. The blue crab appetizer is amazing??? Love coming here.
As always dinner was great. Problem - my husband was eating his dinner as the server was collecting our dishes. He had to reach over my husband to clear. It was very rude. He could have waited 10mibutes
Front counter person was a bit abrasive when asked about preferences listed in original reservation. If booths are only for certain sized parties that should be listed when the reservation is being made or at least stated when arriving to complete reservation . Also when asked if we could move to a table in a little less congested space than the two seater wedged in the middle of the floor, we were told to “ to get our menus” not can you please grab your menus? The waitress was fine and was not rude or over bearing. The food was ok as my potatoes were under cooked, however the Salmon and the scallops my friend had were tasty. Drinks were average resturant drinks, should have ordered wine. Overall not bad just didn’t appreciate the host attitude especially when had a reservation!
Food and service was good. Just a lot of unnecessary confusion at the hostess station. Checked in a few times for our reservation for two. They seemed to forget we were waiting for a table. Otherwise, everything else was fine.
Food & service was great but the noise was too loud. It became very hard to have a conversation at the table
First and possibly my last time visiting. The environment was great, but personally I’m not a fan of the food. Nothing really had flavor other than the mussels. They really should consider incorporating seasoning.
If you can get past the rudeness and lack of personality found in the servers and focus on the food this place is great.
Outdoor space wecoming to pet lovers, stiff cocktails, creative food, and amazing & attentive staff. I highly enjoyed my Sunday Brunch with friends at this place and look forard to returning!
Lounge on roof top great, restaurant service and food not so good. Food had to much salt and butter and was cold. Price for quality not up to part.
We are from Tampa and were visiting friends for a "foodie" weekend. I want to preface by saying that this hotel venue's atmosphere was contemporary farmhouse style, wood floors, beautiful lighting & fixtures - very trendy and fabulous. The roof top bar offers a beautiful view of the city of Jax - it was a bit crowded for the amount of space but we only went up for a look after dinner. I would definitely go earlier (prior to dinner) to enjoy a cocktail and socialize with our friends. Now, let's get to dinner,,,,I consider myself to be a Charcuterie connoisseur as I enjoy creating trays for entertaining and enjoying it at different venues. The Charcuterie tray on the menu did not exceed my expectations - it seemed a little sparse for the price. The iceberg wedge salad was amazing, the filet mignon with mushroom sauce was perfection (one of the best I have had - it came with asparagus which had a great charred flavor), the cocktails were tasty & the wine list was extensive. We had a mishap with the broiled ocean platter - my friend preferred her scallops a bit more seared and there were several attempts to make it right. Joe, the Manager, stepped in and got everything resolved and made sure we ended on a great note! Without a doubt, it was a memorable evening and we look forward to returning next time we are in town.
Excellent venue for celebrating milestones, or a date night. Roof top bar is special.
The food was excellent. The service was good but the waiter did not provide us with the specials of the night unlike other tables beside us. The restaurant is very loud making it difficult to carry on a conversation. Loved the tropical fish tank and the trees outside the restaurant with all the lights.
Good choice for a quick meal. We were in town for an event and found this restaurant highly rated on Open Table. There are many comfort food choices as well as healthier options such as ceviche and salads.
Really good food in a trendy atmosphere. Barry provided excellent service 👍.
Service was very good and friendly. Three of our four meals were very good, however my ribeye was terrible. It was tough and full of gristle.
I was also disappointed that I could not sub for my potatoes and when I asked for steak sauce (because the steak was so bad) I was told that they did not serve steak sauces.
I feel that the customer’s requests should be accommodated and not be told that this is the way it is.
Excellent meal. Beautiful place. Our waiter was super! Rooftop Lounge for drinks and appetizers has the most amazing view of the city. We were a group of 6 ladies and we all enjoyed our evening at River and Post. Prices are a little on the high side - especially because salads and breads do not come with the meal. That is a huge "turn off."
We visited River and Post for the 1st time on a weekday evening. We first visited the rooftop bar - great view, comfortable seating, and terrific cocktails... I'd recommend the "Bulleit Proof" (their take on a classic Manhattan, made with Bulleit Rye). Afterward, we headed down to the street level dining room - it was filling up quickly and the energy and noise levels were high. We had a table with a view of the outside. The server was polite and attentive. The food was very good: I had the ribeye which was done perfectly, well seasoned, and tender. My wife had the mixed seafood grill which she loved. The accompanying roasted vegetables withe each entree were superb. We split the chocolate mousse cake, which was delicious. Overall, this was a very good experience and we plan to return with out-of-town guests.
Our server Richard was great!
Birthday. Great food - smoked fish dip, ceviche, crab beignets and pork shank special. Could have had the 3 apps on the rooftop. Next time.
looking forward to warmer weather so as to enjoy dining outside on the patio
This was my second visit to River and Post. Both times the service was a bit slow. The food is quite good, but pricey. They have a fantastic bar with some unique drinks. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. There is also a rooftop bar that is fantastic. The restaurant can be quite noisy when its crowded, so if you're looking for an intimate dining experience you probably want to come late when the crowd dies down. I will be back. There are few restaurants in the area that offer the quality and the ambiance like River and Post.
Wonderful view from the rooftop. And the best salmon in town.
Food was great, service was good, but it’s way too loud and nearly impossible to have a conversation. I’d suggest tempering all the solid surfaces with drapes or upholstery to lower the noise level. The Rooftop Lounge is really impressive and the band on Saturday night sounded great.
Great service .. the restaurant needs more sound barriers - it is SO loud in there you can barely have a conversation with your dinner partner.
The food is truly fantastic and decor is some of my favorite in Jacksonville restaurants but it was extremely loud. We were on a double date with our best friends and it was incredibly difficult to have a conversation all together.
Horribly loud! Food mediocre at best.
Beautiful views from the roof top bar! Bartender was friendly and even suggested a great alternative to the beer my DH wanted to order but R&P didn't carry. Found it rather odd that you can't order all the same drinks as the restaurant. Bar was very crowded with hardly a place to stand. Guess you need to be there when it opens?!
It was also very crowded in the restaurant and loud! We were seated quickly (we had reservations), but that was the end of anything quick...not that we were in a rush, this was a special occasion for us and we wanted to take our time. the waiter, bless his heart was attentive as he could be but he seemed stretched thin. We ordered an appetizer, drinks and entrees. All were very good. The dinner I ordered was incorrect, but was resolved in just a few minutes time.
Would I go back? Yes, but maybe for a party, or with a group of friends, not for our anniversary or a date night. It was too loud and not very intimate on a Saturday night.
We dined at River and Post on Christmas Eve 2018. It was all around a wonderful experience. I traveled back down to Jacksonville from Chicago last weekend to celebrate my daughters engagement. I suggested River and Post due to the wonderful experience we had in December. Made the open table reservation a week prior to. Noted special occasion. Upon arrival we were seated promptly at the table in the middle of the business. My chair was bumped numerous times, I was bumped in the head with bags and backsides over and over by servers and by customers. My water spilled in my lap when my arm was bumped by guests walking in. We were so close to the bar that I had people standing at my back throughout our entire what was supposed to be an intimate special occasion meal together. This along with the drink mixing made the noise level unbearable. We could not communicate without yelling at each other so we just gave up and watched tv. We also do not drink and I informed our server of this but he continued to push alcohol suggestions. One in our party is recovering and I found the pushing bar drinks downright rude. My daughter and I came for the shrimp and grits. When we came in December this was the most amazing dish I had ever tasted and had been thinking about it ever since! This time the grits were runny, undercooked and there wasn’t even a hint of the Gouda cheese that made this dish delicious last time. I was so disappointed and felt bad because I ranted and raved about this dish so much that my daughter ordered it as well. I kept telling her this is nothing like what I had in December. Noting was mentioned by our server or hostess about the special occasion. Not sure why this needed to be noted if nothing is done. Maybe this was just an off night. Don’t think we will make the hour drive up to River and Post from St Augustine the next time we travel down from Chicago. I will still dream about the delicious dish I had in December though.
Compared to my first experience they seem to have improved. Food was good, but I have had the same type of food/dish in different less expensive restaurants and the quality and taste was def. better in those restaurants compared to here. Also, the menu was somewhat limited. It was very pricey particularly for the quality of food. Drinks were good (well done) and quickly done. Service was overall okay, but server did take a while to attend to us based on the price you are paying you would expect better service and he kept apologizing which got annoying at some point. What I disliked the most was the level of noise, we were there at 6 pm and as time passed it was just soo loud. However, ambiance was overall good in terms of the kinds of people and the amount of people there, as well as overall decor and lighting. I would not chose to go there for myself but If invited to go because thats where my group is going I would not oppose. Overall good experience, but certainly not great based on the price paid.
Shrimp and grits, and filet were excellent. Outdoor patio upstairs was very nice and view of river was great.
This is a cool spot to experience in Duval on the river. The roof top bar provides a great downtown view of the city with an upscale ambiance. The food and service were on point as well. I will more than likely frequent this place now.
