Looking forward to a great lunch, the company was amazing but service and food not So much. Hostesses were less than thrilled and had absolutely no personality. Once seated it took forever for anyone to come to the table to offer us drinks. I have gone to River and Post three times, this was the third. Thinking it might've been a fluke that service and food was not great the last two visits I was going to try again. We had beet & Barrata to start which had zero taste, if that's not enough the food server brought a filthy plate for us to eat on. He quickly took it away but this is something that they should notice before bring to the table. We got the burger and it was okay , I asked for ranch dressing and mayonnaise When I originally ordered, I had asked for it twice after the food was delivered to the table, it Took almost 10 minutes to get that which of course my burger & fries were like warm at best. The server we had really needs to be trained better. Probably not going to try this again. Three strikes so disappointed
We were seated quickly, not crowded on a weeknight, I hear the weekends are much busier, parking is good behind the building and across the street. Service was friendly. Seafood items brought in fresh daily and they were good. We enjoyed the smoked fish dip, broiled platter, and salmon dishes. Fresh vegetable accompanied the main course and were cooked perfectly. They have a decent wine selection along with full bar for cocktails. The do not miss is the rooftop bar, nicely appointed area for seating, open air with a roof, great views of the city and The St. John’s.
Rooftop bar is beautiful.
Food came out over cooked downstairs and service was so so
Service was quite slow and though the food was good, the price was fairly high. Two drinks, two entrees and two desserts was ~$120.
My son flew into Jax from LA to surprise his Dad for fathers day. We thought River and Post would be a very nice venue to take him for Fathers Day. Not so. After being seated we waited an extended period for the waitress to appear. She was friendly at first although after I sought out the Manager to discuss our experience she became much less so.
We waited over 30 minutes for a drink to be delivered to the table and once it was delivered, it had a black bug floating in it. We waited over 40 minutes to place our dinner order. When the food came it was barely warm, however, since we had already waited so long, we ate what we could and took the remainder home. T
he waitress seemed distracted and overwhelmed with a large party behind us. She did not make frequent visits to our table to check on us and she was clearly visible chatting with another staff member near the registers outside the kitchen area. In addition one of the staff at the front was observed coming through the same area talking and laughing with other staff members and actually slapped another staff member on the butt on her way through.
I would expect MUCH more professional behavior at an upscale restaurant - this was not McDonalds!
Also, the service was deplorable for the cost of our meals.
Quite a shame for a "new" business trying to make a mark in Jacksonville. I was very disappointed in the entire experience. If I was the manager and/or owner of this business I would be very concerned with how my business is being represented.
Fathers Day drinks and dinner
We went for Father’s Day. We arrived early for our 4:45 reservation. We had to wait since we were early but that was ok. Our waitress (Macy)was nice and answered all of our questions. We did have to wait a little bit for our food, both of my daughters had to send their mash potatoes back because they were cold, I got my entree but none of my sides. Our waitress said she had me some fresh fries cooked which they were but I was almost done with my shrimp before I got them and my coleslaw. Once everything came together it was good. I plan to return and hopefully things will run a little smoother. Also, not sure if you have dessert because we weren’t asked if we wanted any.
Service was terrible...waiter didn't even know what the specials were??? Moved slow and had too many tables. Very disappointed to sit at a table and look at people outside the window...bad set up! Even they got up & moved! Bar upstairs excellent-funny you didn't ask about that???? Service was excellent up there too! Not asking for much--Can say food was excellent! For the drive from the beaches to Riverside, Ruth Chris has you beat....Sorry!
Loved our first visit and will be back with more friends.
the views are spectacular. the place is beautiful. the food was amazing. the drinks were delicous
I have been there 4 times. The first two times were during the week for lunch and my lunch was great. Had shrimp and lobster grits. Bowl had a nice serving. We went again for Easter and Father's Day and the serving in the bowl was certainly not worth the price. It seemed like they were skimping for the holidays. Because of this I won't be in a hurry to return.
we been many time but this was our first time for lunch and it was excellent!
We really enjoyed our experience for lunch on Sunday. We can’t wait to come back to try more menu items. And the roof top bar
Vibe is young professionals. Trendy, with great menu options. Our steaks were fine steak house quality. Highly recommend!
Wait staff service was poor. Very slow. Forgot things. Had to request items multiple times. Put in wrong entrees and didn’t even apologize or offer a free dessert. Too busy and too loud.
Great food. Good price.
We were seated 25mins after our reservation time. The restaurant is nice, but crowded and the tables are close.
Aside from service that was slow to start, we enjoyed our time at River and Post. Food was tasty, staff attentive. Place was vibrant although I little noisy mainly because we were seated close to the bar. Nice roof top bar with great views to enjoy as well. Overall solid.
Great service, however, my food's temperature was less than desirable. My dining partner wasn't pleased with his meal citing that the coating for the fried fish and the onion rings was not a complement. The Rooftop Lounge was an excellent spot! Will consider another visit to try a different entree'.
What an excellent place. The food was excellent, the service outstanding. It was a wonderful evening followed by drinks on the rooftop. We never met one person who wasn't friendly and cordial. We'll definitely be going back.
The restaurant is beautiful. Loved the ambience. I ordered the crab beignets which were more filler than crab meat. Because I've had crab beignets at other restaurants that offered more crab, I was disappointed in my meal choice. I would be willing to pay more to have 3-4 beignets that had more crab than to have 6 with all of the filler.
Server was awesome!
Love the location, brings back memories to me as my father use to work for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company which use to occupy this building.
Food and service were outstanding, the noise was not enjoyable at all! My friend and I could hardly hear each other to have a conversation. Not sure how that can be repaired, but it's pretty loud.
Absolutely amazing in every way. Rooftop bar views are incredible, downstairs dining is perfection. Best in Jacksonville!
River and Post was recommended by a friend. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the atmosphere. I plan to return.
Great atmosphere. The terrace is a plus...
Great meal, great drinks, great service, excellent experience
Thank you to our server for a wonderful experience.
The shrimp and grits were amazing.
The decor is beautiful but we didn’t have a great experience. My wine glass smelt like dishwasher detergent. I wasn’t in love with the fact that we couldn’t go upstairs to have a drink while we waited on our table. There is no communication from the rooftop bar to the dining room, so we sat in the lobby for 15 mins. Our server had too many tables to give us excellent service, but he did a decent job. We shared the seafood platter and I thought I was comparing it to Capitol Grille the whole time, but honestly, it wasn’t good except for the oysters. The seafood drowned in ice once that melted. The shrimp was yellow, which we were told that was normal, but there was nothing indicating flavor so we were nervous about that. The king crab was spoiled, and we were not served with any sauces, crackers, or butter. After we asked for that and hot sauce, our waiter was busy with other tables and we had to flag someone over. Wait time in that was around 10 mins. Big disappointment.
We had a 7 pm reservation. Arrived and were seated on time.
Our waiter took our order at about 7:15. After two apologies....the kitchen was backed up....we left without having dinner at 8:30.
We had nothing to eat so I cant critique our meal.
You would think they would have at least put some bread on the table or offered us some appetizers to make up for such a long delay. Nothing!
We won’t be back!
We really enjoyed the rooftop bar and had a great server but unfortunately when we headed downstairs for dinner we were less impressed. Our server was definitley not attentive. We waited 20 mins for salads/apps dishes to be cleared and had to bother other staff just to get water. He told us he was busy in the back. Then when dinner came, all but one dinner came out. My daughter's dinner came out once we were all done. Management did comp some apps/salads but overall food was average and service below average for our visit.
The food was great!
The atmosphere was perfect the view was gorgeous, the service was fast ,the appetizers And food was excellent.
Hug out at the rooftop bar for about 20 minutes and came down for a good meal. Great view and layout. We had a great table right by the window. Service was excellent and the hostess was flexible. Don't come expecting quiet, it's not.
The delicious food, charming and very inviting atmosphere, along with very pleasant and efficient staff makes for an amazing lunch spot. This is definitely restaurant that is worth repeat visits.
The food was supreme!! The staff was very friendly and efficient. I highly recommend!
Food was awesome and ambience is perfect!
Our first time for dinner at River & Post. We had bouillabaisse and it was very good. Not the best I've ever had, but good. Considering there were few guests at 6pm, we had to wait quite a long time to be served. I'd definitely go back.
Beautiful restaurant with an outstanding rooftop. The wait staff was exceedingly accommodating and warm.
The only negative was the food! It was tasteless. Sounded good from the menu description, but both mine and my husband’s entrees were without any real taste.
I really wanted to love this restaurant. They need to work on their food.
