Thoroughly enjoyed brunch on Sunday. The food was outstanding, our waitress was attentive & friendly and we really enjoyed the live music. We will definitely return!
Great place great food great service will go again!
Antipasto was great as were the tuna and Asiago salmon. Bolognese and lobster ravioli were ok. The view of the river is wonderful and the indoor dining and service were very nice. The bar looked like fun. As the evening progressed it got quite loud. We would love to try the outdoor patios by the river when it gets warmer
This was an excellent new find!! We got the lobster bisque which was OUT OF THIS WORLD! Hands down the best I've ever had... and order thus dish alot! Both of our main dishes were delicious as well! I was shocked to find the brussel sprouts were actually my favorite thing that night! Made with bacon and a quick fry they were to die for! Our service was great as well! Aaron was attentive, informed about the menu, and had a great sence of humor enough only added to this lovely night out. The outdoor seating looked awesome as well but it was too cold that day to enjoy. Will be going back very soon!!
Service was great, food was great, views were great!! Will be going back soon!
Love your restaurant but when you have the windows open there are flies. Last two times we were there. It was hot and muggy the night we were there. Food and service was outstanding.
My wife and I were here for lunch a week ago and all we could do at that time was sing your praises. Fast forward to this past Sunday 10/7, totally different. We were dying to try your brunch so we brought my sister for her birthday. We were seated and ordered our drinks and off to the buffet which was surprisingly farther from the dining area. Unusual, but we give it a chance. The food was good, but the service was lacking. I understand it is a buffet and it was the first hour, but waitstaff should have been on top of clearing our plates. All we could see is the servers including ours were standing around talking to each other. Our waitress even spilled water on me. When she came to finally check up on us, she had a plate with a dessert saying Happy Birthday. We told her it was my sister's birthday, but that didn't register with her. Then there's the bill a total of $168. I had to do a double take. Paying that much for an underwhelming experience was not a great feeling. Needless to say, this experience has left a bad taste in our mouths. It is a shame especially when our first time there was fabulous. We will not be returning anytime soon.
We dined at The River Saturday night on the recommendation of a friend, The food was fabulous! Both of us ordered fish, swordfish and tuna, and they were cooked to perfection. The accompaniments were a delicious creamy polenta and housemade pasta. Burrata salad was a meal in itself, served with toast points to sop up the creamy center. We will definitely be back!
Aaron was our waiter and he was exceptional. Food was very good as well.
The location and atmosphere were very nice. Unfortunately, that's where the good stuff starts to end. The calamari was tender. Not so good - the marinara on the chicken parm. It was too sweet and tinny in flavor. The pizza seemed okay, but my friend was up all night and threw away her leftovers. I may try again, but I will sit at the bar, which looked fantastic, and stick with lighter fare.
Loved the view and enjoyed the food. Servicebwasbwonderful. Everyone very nice.
Really enjoyed our first time at River Restaurant. The view from the bar of the River is spectacular. Want to go back when the leaves are changing. I brought a friend for her birthday. Food was excellent and loved our waitress!!
We were very disappointed with our visit here. I ordered a filet and when you're spending $38 for a steak they better get it right which they didn't. I order my steak medium (spoke to the waiter about what I expected medium to be and he agreed).
When I got my steak and cut into it, it was medium rare which our waiter definitely agreed with when he saw I had cut into just the outer edge. The waiter took my plate back and when he returned it, it looked as though half of the steak was gone. They had cut off the outer edges and charred it. We sent our meals back, paid for our two drinks and app and went to another restaurant. My husband ordered pasta and he felt it tasted as though it was reheated. We had high hopes due to the location and ambiance, but no such luck.
Great food and Great service. Our waiter Alfonso was terrific.
Best time ever! Food was delicious and the server was really nice
We like the fact that they change there Menu and have vegetarian options that are not just pasta. The setting is very pleasing and we actually are about 48 miles away and Would definitely come again. Would really like to try Jazz brunch. At first driving in throws you off a little because it is odd being in the back of a business building but easy to get to. Would highly recommend!!
Service and food spectacular! Wow, what a hidden gem. From our shared appetizer platter which featured burrata, Romano, Coppa, roasted peppers, olives, grapes, apples, gorgonzola, Sopressata and Prosciutto. Then we moved on to our main course of Lobster Mafalde and Grilled Southern Italian Tuna. The Lobster Malfalde had big chunks of lobster and was served in a pink alfredo sauce. My husband had the tuna which was cooked to perfection (sometimes it comes over done in other establishments) and that was served with heirloom cherry tomatoes, capers and Kalamata olives this was served over linguine. To die for! No room for dessert on this trip, but definitely will be back for the house made flourless chocolate cake!
Had lunch there on a rainy day. Good views from inside, nice deck weather permitting. Food was good, service excellent.
A slight mix-up at the beginning yielded a long wait time for our cocktail order. After that confusion, the wait staff was exceptional. Food was top-notch and the chef easily accommodated one of us with a food allergy (nicely done!). Great view of the Connecticut River ... too bad temperatures did not cooperate with us eating on the deck. We'll be back!!!
This was our first visit, and the restaurant is just lovely. We enjoyed going outside and looking at the river while we waited for our table. Our waiter was very attentive however it was well over an hour from the time we ordered until we were served our dinners. We arrived at 7 and left at around 9:30pm. We didn't order dessert because it was already too late. Our dinner orders were not complicated and we were a party of 4.
I would save The River for special occasions only. Outrageous prices.
Great atmosphere nice for groups acoustics a bit noisy great food and a fantastic river spot
Great views of the river, and equally good food and service. Definitely worth checking out!
Had a great time
They were willing to adjust menu items
Looking forward to next visit
Very disappointed in our server who kept rushing us even though the place was dead and their pricing.. 80.00 for 3 drinks and one appetizer.. We were there at 5:15 and where not even given the happy hour menu option as we where seated outside. Will not be returning.
Loved the River . We asked to be seated like half inside half outside so they put us in the bar area which we loved our seats but the unfortunate part was the music was way too loud for anyone to have a conversation. The music was great but I think the volume needs to be lowered . We did asked to be moved so we went towards the end of the restaurant which was nice but music was still loud. It won’t stop me from coming back but I thought you would like to know. Thanks again and hope to dine with you soon.
The location is at the back of the ground floor of an office building. It overlooks the CT River but is quite far away from it. Most people including us ate on the outdoor deck. The food was excellent and the portions were large. We both took home half of our entrée and had a second meal. This balances out the fact that the menu prices are a bit high in our opinion. Service was fine. Soft music played on speakers. No room for dessert.
Thanks to Lindsey who waited on us!!!! She was very pleasant and informative on menu!
Like the new luncheon menu!!!!
We arrived hungry and out waitress, Cathy, took immediate care of us with some tasty bread and appetizers! The food was fantastic and the atmosphere superb. Thank you Cathy and The River for a memorable meal!
This was a great place for a Sunday brunch! Excellent options as well as drink selection. The crafted Bloody Mary’s are incredible!
Will definitely go back!
We happen to go on a Wed. and surprised to see that there was live music. We absolutely enjoyed the music. The food is delicious and the view is equally as nice. Loved the outdoor seating! We enjoyed it so much we went back the following week with friends. Great location, right off I91. I would recommend trying it out for yourselves.
Great atmosphere. Apps were excellent but main course was slow to arrive, not tasted and barely warm
My wife and I dined twice at The River. Once was an early Monday dinner sitting at the bar. The food and service was very good - and the place was quiet enough for us to have a conversation.
Two weeks later, we invited some friends to join us for dinner at The River. The restaurant was busy and was so loud that conversation - the whole point of getting together - was very difficult at our table.
Our server, Russ, was very good, but the kitchen let him down.
We all ordered Caesar Salad, prepared table-side. That was followed by one of my pet-peeves -- entrees arriving before the salad was finished. That should NOT happen in a quality establishment.
For entrees, my wife and I had Chicken Parmesan. Good, but nothing exceptional. Our friends ordered the swordfish - and both orders arrived over-cooked and dry. One order was taken off the bill, but over-cooking fish shouldn't happen either.
The River has a wonderful location with the opportunity to dine inside or out. However, at their price point and food quality we experienced, we don't plan to return anytime soon.
The view is spectacular. Not too easy to get into for older people. Noisy. Food was good for lunch, not as good for dinner. Chicken parm was somewhat oily and too "wet". Waiter was very good, chatty, friendly and attentive. Menu choices are good. Prices not bad. Will try again. Looking forward to trying brunch.
River was a great place to meet my daughter coming from the airport. It was so easy to get to at routes 3 & 91. Putnam Park office building provides a grand entry to River and every seat has a view of the Connecticut River. The staff was very gracious and welcoming and quickly got us to our table just inside the open glass wall. The food was excellent with generous portions for every choice. There was a lively atmosphere while we sat and talked and although busy, there was no push for us to go. All in all we really enjoyed River and can’t wait to go back.
This place was lovely! Our waiter Scott was amazing, the food was delicious and the view was beautiful. If I had one complaint it was that the window was open so we were essentially seated on the deck. With the humidity my hair frizzed and I got a few mosquito bites. Makes sense, we were on the River under trees and there were wonderful aromas. 🤷🏻♀️
Overall I can’t wait to return, in the fall. Highly recommended!!!
We had a great time here. The view is quite beautiful and the service was great. Everyone was very nice. As for food, my sister got the pesto pasta dish that was on the menu which was absolutely phenomenal. My gnocchi was meh. The bread they served wasn’t very good and wasn’t warmed at all and the butter wasn’t softened for spreading. The bottle of Malbec we got was great. Overall we will be back but there are a few things regarding food I would have them tweak.
Great food and ambiance, but a bit noisy due to the acoustics. We each ordered a diffeernt entree, and each one was delicous--es[pecailly to Calamari & Bolonase. The only problem was my meal was delayed due to an order mixup. Nevertheless, it was an homest mistake and we definetely would go back again, and recommend it.
Excellent service and food ! Highly reccommended. Beautiful views and tasteful decor
First time but definitely won’t be the last!
Great food, great service& great river view!
