About Rive Bistro
Voted "VERY GOOD" by The New York Times.
Rive is a French Bistro on the Saugatuck River in Westport, created by Chef Eric Sierra whose Bistro des Amis in downtown Westport was, for a decade, the go-to place of some of the world's best French bistro cooking.
Like the legendary bistros of Paris, Rive is warm, and convivial, a true bistro populaire.
The dining room, with a wrap-around wall of windows overlooks a bend in the river, there is fireplace for winter, and in warm weather there is an outdoor patio that feels like a cafe on the Seine.
With a suave lighting, urban decor and, of course, un comptoir (a bar) serving hip cocktails and wine by the glass, Rive is very much of-the -moment, as popular Parisian bistros today.

Rive Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Always a favorite. The service is always pleasant and professional. Their cocktails are very good, especially the Rive Gimlet. Rive is my favorite restaurant to dine on fish. No one does is better. The view and the outside patio is a huge bonus. The indoor fireplace is very cozy on a cold evening. The bar has a nice vibe to enjoy a cocktail and some appetizers.
Rive has become a yearly Christmas Eve tradition. I only wish they made souffles!
My greatest disappointment was that the cheese fondue came as a glumpy mass of cheese in a cute fondue pot but it was lit by a votive light that did not produce enough heat to keep the mixture at a proper heat level so the texture became inedible relatively quickly. The greatest disappointment was that I expressed this to our waiter and asked that he let management and the kitchen staff know and no one came over to our table and no adjustment was made to our bill. The dish was inedible after about 5 minutes at our table and it was more expensive than at other venues in Fairfield County! Really! Shows staff is not concerned about the quality of the dining experience at their restaurant and we were frequent diners at that venue! Most disappointing!
Absolutely great experience here. It was my parent's 30th wedding anniversary and they were so great to us. I called ahead to ask them to write "happy anniversary" on my parent's dessert and it came out lovely. My mom was so surprised. The ambience was great as well. All of the family enjoyed the food- parents ordered the burger and steak. They both stated they would order it again. My sister ordered the mussels for main course and they came out with so much! Good servings.
We arrived Friday early afternoon. I’m 64 and we were the youngest people having lunch. We have been to Rive Bistro dozens of times. Being one of the few restaurants on the water in Westport makes it a special place. The food is generally good ....service is generally good ....today’s lunch was not so good.
Salmon burger tasted like old fish, leaked on my hands and the smell was awful.
I politely told our server at check out -not to offer this to others guests today. She was polite and said ...come back another time and we will take care of you.
We went for a friends birthday celebration. 5 women. It worked out really well. It was a Monday night so not really busy. It also happened to be restaurant week so we all ate from that menu and it was all wonderful. Coconut cake was fantastic- and they put a candle in for our friend. All in all a great evening and meal.
The setting is very nice on a beautiful day. We sat outside by the water. However, the food, both on my first visit and now on my second, was mediocre. My salad was a bit mushy with its dressing, although the salmon was cooked to order and good. Perhaps the dressing was too heavy for the salad? It lacked freshness.
We took our daugter to celebrate her 12th birthday - special occasion. The food is outstanding. We shared the grilled artichoke hearts appetizer which was delicous and fresh and completely different preparation than we had seen before. My main course was fish with whipped rutabagas. I could have eaten all of it for days - so great. perfect cook. My daughter's steak was also exactly perfect cook. The service is friendly and light-hearted; the cockatils were creative. But above all, the view is lovely - so calming and beautiful - always ask to sit by the windows!
I found that my seafood soup was very tasty and a hearty portion However, the rigatoni pasta with the lamb "Bolognese" sauce lacked creativity. In addition the past was overly "Al Dente". I would not have this dish again. While the four of us arrived at 5:00 PM and at times were the only individuals in the restaurant the service was somewhat slow and un-attentive. The view on the Saugatuck (Westport, CT) was very pleasant,
