   The restaurant has been permanently closed. Yet it is in the Opentable app. There was no way for me to cancel my reservation so that I could book another restaurant. I tried to reach Opentable support but I was not successful. It was a good thing I checked before I went to the restaurant.

   We made reservations in advance with open table to only find Riva closed when we arrived.

   Absolutely to avoid. The risotto with mushrooms for $48 is a tasteless dry mass of inedible totally overcooked rice. I sent it back after two bites but they did not discount it from the check. The branzino (you would assume the whole fish filet for over fifty dollars) is instead just one quarter of it. The $20 a glass red wine Nero D’Avola was served ice cold . The microscopic appetizers were served without providing silverware, the waiter justified himself stating usually people use their hands for it. We insisted we would use silverware instead. We then understood why on a Saturday night at 8PM with the hotel packed this restaurant was empty, actually one single person seating. People avoids this trap as the plague and you should too.

   This restaurant is a hidden gem. When we visited, it offered a tasting of the chef’s creations. Three courses and not a lot of selection. The restaurant itself seems to be placed in an unused conference room, so the ambiance was not really the best. The room itself was reminiscent of a 1990’s wedding venue, so I was skeptical going in. The staff is friendly and there are no airs from them. They make you feel at home in their place. Then we got the food and it was positively OUTSTANDING! Taste, presentation, plating, everything was simply perfect! I mean truly perfect. Taste combinations were amazing and the wine pairing worked very very well. Without being too over the top, I would say Michelin star quality food. Some negatives, the ambiance that I already mentioned and the price. It’s really hard to find a wine that’s below $200 on the wine list. Also, while you can dine a la carte (and it will be cheaper) the tasting was $145 per person when we went. So, our bill was well north of $500 for two people. Just be prepared. If you’re just looking for a steak, go to the Meat Market next door. However, if you really love food that tastes and looks good made with top notch products, this is a must try. You will not be disappointed.

   Food is excellent and service is 5 stars. They have an a la cart menu in case you don’t want the 5 courses.

   We came from another hotel and it was our Anniversary. We showed up for dinner and it was closed. I understand things happen, they should have called and told us they would not be open. Very disappointing evening, had to pay $32 for valet parking and getting dinner reservations at 7:00 was not possible as other restaurants were booked. Ending up eating pizza in the lobby. We were going to book this hotel the Fairmont as well for our next trip but decided not to after this experience, we will try the Vanderbilt instead.

    This was a confusing dining experience. The Fairmont lobby is amazing with over the top vibrancy, energy and ambiance. RIVA feels to be a converted conference room - lacking the same guest experience as the rest of the Fairmont. The price is $$$$ and the food taste was "good" - but it's lacking in ambiance, vibe and overall experience you would expect at this price point.
