It's always good. The pre-fixe Shakespeare menu is quite reasonable, but ordering a la carte can be quite expensive.
The food, ambience and service were excellent. I would definitely return for lunch or dinner.
Very good food and service. Convenient to Chicago Shakespeare Theater.
Service was extremely slow and very inattentive. The food was very good. They had a bunch of VIP visitors there which probably led to the poor service we received.
A friend and I were celebrating each others' birthdays with dinner and a play at the Shakespeare Theater. Perfect for pre-theater. We loved the view of our beloved Lake, the friendliness and welcome of the staff, from the person who seated us, to the excellent server people assisting her, to a member of the kitchen staff (the kitchen is open to view as you walk in and leave) who thanked us with a smile as we were leaving. The server was conscious of the fact we had tickets for the play (by the way, the 20% off with your ticket was a big plus) but we were never hurried. A leisurely meal with absolutely excellent food. We had one of the specials - braised short ribs. Mouthwatering, tender, done to perfection.
A great pre-Shakespeare lunch spot! Our order was served in a timely manner.
Good food.....great view!
We had a wonderful time at Riva. We enjoyed the meal, loved the view, and service was good.
Reliably delicious and fun! Riva is the perfect spot for a romantic dinner anytime or a pre-theatre feast.
Wonderful seafood with a fantastic view. Rather pricey, but great for that special occasion. Our server, Tim, was super!
Great place if you're attending a play at the Shakespeare Theater as there is a 20% discount on food. The fish is excellent but prices went up, so a bit pricey. Excellent view of the lake and lake front.
We go to Riva quite a lot due to its proximity to the theater but no longer. This was definitely the poorest meal we've had there in terms of the quality of the dishes. And of course it's very expensive, with the cocktails even seemingly being skimpy on their alcohol content. If you have never been and want views of the downtown skyline and the lakefront by all means give Riva a try but be prepared to pay for it.
Daughter’s birthday Service was good. Food was very good. Menu limited. Excellent view of Lake Michigan.
The food was wonderful as always. We were celebrating our anniversary and it did not disappoint. The wait staff was friendly and helpful and the view over the lake with the skyline in the background was breathtaking. Don’t ever pass up an opportunity to eat here.
Riva is always a treat. The view of the lake and the city from Navy Pier is absolutely beautiful. It has been frequented by famous people and is truly special. Was seated next to the huge window last time.
Excellent service, food and drinks
Great crab cakes. Not many choices for meat-eaters.
Always a greater place for dinner after Shakespeare. Great menu especially for sea food but excellent steaks etc, and vegetarian.
We've dined here for many Easter brunches, in family groups as small as two and as large as eight. Always a lavish, delicious, wide-ranging buffet in the bright, airy and lively dining room. Attentive and friendly service by the waitstaff who made sure we had clean plates and new utensils, no matter how many trips we made to the food. Very festive atmosphere.
And we've had dinner here several times as well. The ambience on Navy Pier -- the view, the people watching, the energy level --is outstanding.
Normally excellent today below par. Did not know it was a brunch. Food cold trays empty omelette station chef served raw after three tries simply gave up. Would never do recommend brunch here.
Went for Easter Brunch. At $49.95, the best bang for the buck brunch I've ever had. Could not come close to eating all that was available, and all was excellent..
Large party for Easter Brunch and all I can say is fantastic all the way around. Exemplary service, outstanding food beautiful setting! Deifinalety will do again!
Went for Easter brunch. Staff was fantastic. Food was good for a buffet. Dessert table was AWEFUL!! It seemed like they put out their leftovers from Christmas or whatever they had frozen in the freezer. Was surprised too because the food wasn’t like that.
Went for Easter Brunch and the food was fabulous. Great spread and wonderful staff just a little slow clearing the plates but it was super busy. Would love to go back for their regular menu
Appetizers and entrees came out at the same time. Seemed impossibly rushed even though the place was not anywhere near full. Dishes not cooked properly: one overdone and the other basically raw. Beautiful space and nice view, so would be lovely with improvement.
Had a fantastic lunch before a Shakespeare matinee. We enjoyed premium fish with veggies & mashed potatoes that were also exceptional. The service was spot on.
The service was marginal at best. It was an older gentleman who kept re-arranging our glasses and plates like he had OCD. In addition, he wasn’t very attentive.
The food was great as it always is but the service was really lacking.
It was full of older people... but the view of the pier was beautiful.
The server unfortunately misheard our order of appetizer. Then had to have another lady correct the appetizer. Our appetizers were finished, then we asked if we could place our entree order. The entrees are smaller than expected for the price. The seafood tasted great, chicken was dry. There was never a thank you one single time from our server, no personality, no charm, just a server. It was a bday dinner so they surprised with a tiramisu and candle at the end, so ended on a nicer note. Overall 3star, won’t return.
I've always had a great time here. The food , the service, and the view has always been outstanding. This is the perfect go to place for out of town visitors. It's one of Chicago gems.
Wide selection of fresh seafood with great views and great, attentive service!
Very upscale and classy, most of the customers were older and somewhat judgmental. Service, food, and views were great.
Great Service and wonderful food.
Server was very knowledgeable and friendly.
The view- the Ambiance- the Service- the cuisine. I bring ALL my out of town visitors to Riva!
i ordered a Manhattan and they chose, for me, one of the more expensive bourbons. WAY over priced drink.
Went to lunch at Riva before going to the Shakespeare theater as a friend and I have done on several occasions. The room is lovely on a sunny day with great skyline views. The service and food were very good but I was extremely disappointed that the menu had changed. It was shorter and gone were the lobster roll, crab cake sandwich and the fried shrimp platter that I had particularly been looking forward to because I had enjoyed it so much on my last visit. For a seafood restaurant, it seems to have eliminated the main reason for going. I had a grilled chicken sandwich ?????? Not the reason I made reservations.
This is one of the few fine-dining establishments on Navy Pier - although it looks like they will be getting some competition soon. You can't ask for a better view, and in all respects it is very good - although a bit pricey. They have a good relationship with the Chicago Shakespeare folks which results in a 20% discount from the menu or a special Prix-fix option - which we usually take. Our only problem, strange to say, is that we usually go away over-fed. Next time we may consider sharing all three courses - even if they charge a "plate fee".
This was a special birthday celebration. RIva, known for its Dover Sole, was the choice for the event. Unfortunately, Riva's menu has changed since last year, and Dover Sole is no longer available except in mid-summer. We survived on other items on the menu, well prepared and presented. The prices have also risen since last summer's visits, and now Riva is riven from our list of frequent haunts.
nice view of the lake, food was good, waitress very friendly
We were seated promptly at 5 o’clock for our reservations. The service was excellent, Sam did a great job serving us, very attentive and knew the menu up and down. The jumbo shrimp were dried out and the steak was a little overdone but everything was very tasty. The views are spectacular. A bit pricey but all in all it was worth it. I would recommend it to a friend.
It was very crowded. After Chicago Shakespeare, pier seemed to be more crowded than ever due to Flower show, but our waiter, Jamie, seemed to be a little befuddled and in a hurry. We have had him before and was better then.
