Riva Crabhouse on Navy Pier Ratings and Reviews
I took my girlfriend there on her birthday on a weekday. We only had exactly one hour before we need to get in the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. We both had seafood (fish) orders, a Salmon and aN Alaskan Perch. Both ended up being phenomenal as we shared our dishes. They served the food within 20 minutes from the time we sat down. I also remembered having a great Tiramisu cake which I hope was bigger but the taste and flavor did its job. Oh, and how can I forget overlooking the Lake. It was a great night overall
Beautiful, romantic. Staff was very friendly, attentive. Was anticipating excellent seafood since they are a "Crabhouse." Was not impressed with menu or quality of food. Wedge salad was mediocre. I had the Lobster Diavalo. Not much lobster. We shared the trio dessert, the mousse was incredible but the rest only seemed to be a scoop of ice cream (not gelato) and a stale brownie with raspberries on it (the raspberries were the best part!). I would go again, mainly for the ambiance.
We requested (and got) a table by the window, but bright sunshine heated the area by the window to an extreme and made the view difficult because it was so bright. The table would have been lovely in the evening. Service was just okay but the food was good. I got the impression that guests are taken for granted, since it's really the only fine dining option on Navy Pier.
It was busy when we attended so the service lacked the usual spark, however that is the exception to the rule. The food was just excellent, the ambiance was wonderful. One in our party did not like having an attendant in the ladies room; it seemed antiquated and not The Four Seasons and it didn't fit. However I pointed out that it gave someone a job....and maybe that was the way to look at it. I did ask for accomodations near the window and there were none with our reservation. We had to wait only l5 minutes in the bar, though, which was find and I don't know how to solve that any other way when a place is busy.
This was a great place to enjoy excellent food and atmosphere. View of down down Chicago from the Pier is worth the visit. Be sure to sit in up stairs dining room. Our fish selections were delicious and the portions large. We could have easily shared a dish. Riva offers 20% off food for patrons of the near by Chicago Shakespeare Theatre and promises to get you out by showtime. In all makes for a teriffic evening.
We were a group of four, including two out of town friends. The service was outstanding, the view from our 2nd floor dining room table, at the windows, was perfect. We watched the WINDY sailing ship load passengers for rides, leave the dock, and watched the sails unfurl-and then the reverse as the ship returned to shore. Our food was excellent-we shared 2 appetizers(crab cocktail and potstickers) which were fine for four to share. The crab cocktail was very large and we all agreed the best we ever had. We had 2 glasses of wine each, with 1 salmon entree,1 grouper sandwich and 2 Kobe beef burgers - all were outstanding. I heard this was expensive but our bill was $175 - very reasonable for this quality and overall experience. I will be back.
It was a wonderul dinner and experience. I would go again easily and recommend it. It was described to me as romantic and I can see where it would be between the food, service, and the view, but it was a bit on the noisy side, which doesn't lead to romantic discussions well. The seating is not intimate. That is not to say anything bad, as everyone from the hostess to the servers and the busboy were very friendly. Food was excellent - from the Australian Lobster to the Fettuccini with Scallops! Calamari ranks among the best we have had, which isn't easy! And Navy Pier is a great setting and lots of fun!
Riva ia a very convenient place to dine, especially when you are attending theater at Shakespeare. This is our third time dining at Riva and this was not up to par from the previous visits. Our waiter was very poor, no personality, and appeared put out when we asked for service. The food was a huge disappointment, we had several issues and the food was not prepared well. The assistant waiters, there were two, were wonderful, we would have rather had them serve us for the entire meal. We won't be returning anytime soon. We had two guests who had never been there before and they were very unimpressed.
I was rather disappointed in the restaurant. While the view was nice and we were able to see the fireworks, for such a pricey retaurant I expected a better atmosphere and more food. The food was good, but portions were small and it was very bright and very noisy. There was way too much activity to enjoy the atmosphere and the view I was expecting. We were celebrating our 20th anniversary and I was very disappointed with the ambiance. I expected quieter, more romantic and different lighting and ambiance. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.
The food was delicious and the scenery was beautiful as you overlook the lake from your table. It was the perfect dinner before going to the Shakespere Theatre to see a show. Would go again as I love seafood and it was fresh and perfectly cooked. Oysters were awesome too!
The lights were so bright in da restaurant that it distorted the view outside. The ambience was just ok. It didn't have a luxury feeling like the pics on the Internet. And like my friend said it was pricey. They also didn't do anything for my friend's bday after I told the server we were there for her bday.
My New Mexico guest really enjoyed the ambience and most especially the food. We requested and got a table with a view which added to her (and my) experience. We also appreciated that we were not competing with loud musice or noisy guests. Wonderful evening!
I wanted to take my mom someplace special to celebrate her 85th birthday and Riva's was perfect. My sister and I took her to lunch, sat at a window table overlooking Navy Pier and Lake Michigan, and stuffed ourselves full of delicious food. The service was excellent, without going overboard. My mom felt very special and pampered for her special day.
We had a nice time and the food was fresh and yummy. We split a bottle of wine that was recommended by the waiter. It was tasty and reasonably priced. We went the route of small plates to have the opportunity to try several things and not feel over stuffed. Everything was fresh and presented well. We would return.
The entire experience was wonderful. I loved the food, service, food selection, decor, and professionalism of staff. I bring my family and my loved ones. I highly recommend to everyone that they dine here at Riva Crabhouse. I have enjoyed dining here for several years and will continue to do so.
