Riva Crabhouse on Navy Pier Ratings and Reviews
I’ve been to Riva many times and I have found it to be an excellent restaurant with reliable food. This time was an exception to that. My dining partner and I ordered “the wedge,” a wedge of iceberg lettuce with blue cheese dressing. Very good but a noticeably smaller portion (a few bites each at the most!). Had the 14 oz pork chop, which was very dry and also small—probably more like 8 ounces (I am a registered nutritionist, so I know portions!). The guy at the next table was served a pork chop that was at least 14oz; it covered the entire plate! why the inconsistency? Why do I have to pay the same price for a half portion? It has also been my experience that females are often served portions much smaller than male customers. Again, why the discrepancy?
I've dined at Riva several times, always before attending a show at Chicago Shakespeare Theater. (Show your tickets; receive 20% off your bill.) The menu and wine list are terrific - the view of the lake exceptional. Service is always attentive and polite. Loved it, yet again.
we generally eat in the restaurant but arrived before it opened so sat outside. The view is always great from there and it was extra nice to sit outside because it was such a nice afternoon. The food is always excellent and the service top notch. riva's is one of my favorite places in town for crab cakes and calamari and a drink with a view
We haven’t been to Riva in years. When we last went we thought it was getting a little “tired”. A show at the Shakespeare Theater drew us there for pre-theater dinner. Wow, were we impressed. It looks great, the service was attentive and helpful. Most important, the food was outstanding. It was impressive.
We had some family in from out of town and decided that we wanted a restaurant with a view. We arrived early for our reservation and were seated promptly. The waiter came over right away to take our drink order and was able to recommend a wine for me that was very good. We ordered Caesar salad to start which was good (its enough to be split by 2 people). Between all of us we had the swordfish, halibut w.lobster risotto, crab cakes and sea scallops with pasta. All of our fish was cooked well and we all enjoyed our selections. The flour-less chocolate cake for dessert is a must have. All in all it was a good experience.
My wife and I went to Riva Crabhouse before attending the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. The view is wonderful looking over the shore and downtown Chicago. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable and made some very good recommendations of every price range. I had a well prepared swordfish with vegetables while my wife had halibut with risotto. Both were delicious. The desserts were also wonderful. Yes, this is an upscale restaurant at Navy Pier so it is expensive. That said, we both felt that it was worth the cost and would definitely return.
The Cioppino was by far the best seafood dish I've ever had! I was a little nervous at first since it was just seafood in a spicy broth and I usually dont like mussels however it was all so delicious and the broth was so good I wanted to drink it! We also had the Caprese as an appetizer and the basil pesto made all the difference. So inlove with this place and can't wait to go back!
My husband and I like to order 3 or 4 appetizers and a desert to create our own ‘tasting menu’. That is what we did at Riva. There were lots of tasty sounding offerings, and the volume of food on each dish was ample. I felt our decision to order in this manner was frowned upon by our waiter who seemed a bit aloof anyway - certainly not friendly. I asked about lobster bisque since the website advertised theirs was the best in the city and the waiter told me they hadn’t had lobster bisque In over a year. All the food was good, the potstickers were exceptional.
Ten years ago we were married in the rose garden in Grant Park and had our wedding dinner here. A small group of about fifteen.
Our dinner Friday the 22nd was outstanding in every way.
Our server was the most professional and attentive of any that we have experienced.
Jamie J (an older gentlemen with an accent) made our night exceptional.
I've been here several times before but this was the absolute worst. We waited almost an hour for our table and when we were finally seated, there were over a dozen tables available. The manager here was terrible. The shrimp tasted awful. The entries were okay. The service was fine. Will never return.
We attended a Shakespeare Theater production next door and had a 6:30 reservation. Thought we would be able finish dinner and casually walk over to the theater but it was a little rushed. The restaurant is very busy at that time. The wait staff did a great job getting everyone served but give yourself a little more time to enjoy the great food. Everything was simply delicious.
We dined on our way to the theatre. The service was very friendly and prompt. Our only criticism was the the swordfish was slightly but not seriously overcooked. We enjoy our meals there every time and the Shakespeare Theatre discount makes them an extra value.
Scratching my head why the reviews are so inconsistant. My husband and I wanted a soecial place to celebrate our wedding anniversary and our first visit to Niagara. The service was tip tier, the ambiance is lovely, beatiful view, lots of history. Most importantly, the food was upscale and plentiful. I had new emgland clam chowder, fresh, not salty and plenty of clams, followed by Halibut, large piece, with lobster risotto, lots of lobster. My husband had a Iceberg Wedge followed by swordfish and gnocci, very plentiful. Because it was our Anniversary they gave us a very fresh tiramisu. . In terms if dress code, most people were dressed for dinner. There were only two couples in shorts and they stuck out. Perfect evening. Afterwards, we walked along the promenade.
